New tops: feedback please?

Summer tops drive me batty, a point only reinforced yesterday. Imagine my shock and delight when I found some viable options today! Two of them will probably work well in my parental capsule while still having possibilities outside of it... the third top I just couldn't resist.

All tops shown with the pencil skirt I wore to work today, so please ignore that.

1. A black and white top. How refreshing not to find an empire waist on it!! It feels fantastic on, but how does it fit and what does it do for me? Does the neckline embellishment add breadth to my shoulders? Is there still a bit of shape shown here? I envision this with white bottoms.

2. A fuchsia buttondown: such shirts are very hard to find for me. This one felt good (extra bonus for having sleeves). I bought it primarily for the parental capsule, but can see it working in other settings too. Black clams, navy pants, jeans...I can imagine it working with them all.

3. Pink wrap top: I fell in love with this. It's the loveliest most breathable cotton. It's a design that's just brilliant for the full of bust...and it feels like it gives me great waist definition. Am I alone in thinking this seems like a fun new addition? I wish so much that I had a denim skirt that fit so I could pair them together!! I suspect it's versatile enough to go with black, white or denim, right? Or grey?

This store has a fantastic return policy, so please speak up if these aren't working. Nothing less than excellent will do on my current budget, so be discerning.

Hi Michelle! I like both the tops you've posted, but the pink wrap top you fell in love with isn't here...

Though I will say that I don't find the fit on the buttowndown spectacular (though it's not bad), I can't pin my finger on why yet...not very helpful, I know.

LOOOOVE #1!! Beautiful colors and perfect fit. #2 seems a little tight at the chest, but that might just be this photo. There's no picture 3.

Ok! I can see these much better on my computer.

The reason I asked if the buttondown had a band under the bust is because their appears to be some sort of tab thingy coming off of the third button down (of the buttons that are actually closed), and there does appear to be a seam under the bust. That's not a bad thing but something you might like to know. It's not as amazing as the other two but it's a good, solid, simple top. I don't think 2 is tight across the chest. There appears to just be a crease there.

I am in love with the first one. The neckline is so neat!

OK!!! Maya, when you asked that question about the band under the bust, I thought you were still referring to the black and white one! There is a strip of material, yes, though not a band like so many other tops feature.

Modgrl: yes, I am ok with revealing on occasion, and I have no problem wearing a cami. I also think I found a way to tie it more securely than it was in this picture.

Oh, that explains it. Yes, I was just asking because I couldn't quite tell on my phone.

With the pink top the only reason I said you needed a cami was because there's a bit of bra peeking out, not because I was woefully offended by your cleavage :p

So for situations where you are okay with revealing, you could just wear a bra with a lower center gore.

Wow - the first one - *swooon* - you look divine. Total keep.

Second one - pulls across the bust. Great color for you, but fit may be off.

Third one - It is a fun top, but as modgirl points out, it is revealing...is that going to impact its versatility for you?

I love top #1. The fit is great, the color and print great, and the collar is really interesting.
I feel like the other two are tight across the bust which makes the fabric look tugged at the armhole. You do look good in that dark pink though. Maybe a size larger would cure the pulling.

I find 1 and 3 everything a blouse should be beautiful,with interesting details and figure flatering.The 'embelished' necline in 1 does bring atention to your face and balances very well your porportions.
The seem in 2 seems to be across the bust and not under it.In my opinion if the colars were a little bit bigger it would look better.
Edit:looked again(sorry I'm on the phone) and maybe Sam is right the last one might benefit with a biger number.with the current one you would have to wear a cami.

San, I actually did try sizing up in top 2, but it was enormous and shapeless through the waist...as usually happens with me!
Interesting comments, and much appreciated ones too...I don't feel any gaping with that top, but you're all better judges than I for sure.

Michelle: #3 is a great color on you but as the others have said it's fairly low cut, though it would look good with a cami. I think my favorite out of the three is #1. I think #2 is serviceable (and again, a great color on you), but the fit isn't perfect.

Yay Michelle! Top #1 is a total winner. I also love #2 and I feel the "pulling" across the chest may just be a wrinkle that needs to be ironed out... hard to tell from the photo. It's a fab color on you.

I'm going to be honest and say I don't love #3 as is. It's not the cleavage, but the way it fits around your chest that seems to be making you look more busty than you are. I'd like to see it tied better and with a cami if that's how you're going to wear it.

Do you feel better now that you've found some winners?

Hi Michelle, # 1 is a keeper. It looks great. #2 & #3 are great colours but I don't think they are "special" so if budget is a consideration I would keep #1 and continue looking. Good luck

Oh Wow! That first top is very special and extremely flattering. I think this will be a four season piece for you--wear alone and fun with layers and color. That neckline is so lovely.

I think 1 is a definite for the parental capsual. Looks lovely and is very flattering. I love 3 also but it may not be for the parental capsual. From what you have said, it may be a bit flashy for mom.
I do not think 2 is good enough for you. From the photo and what you said about the next size up, you fall between sizes. Also, I do not feel this garment is well made. It really needs darts at the bust to make it fit well on anyone who has any kind of a bust. I think you would be 'settling' with this one. You deserve better.

#1 is my favorite! The cut is fantastic and the neckline really highlights your beautiful shoulder and collarbone area. It just floats over your body without being too large or too tight anywhere, and the color is lovely. Like Refugee mentioned, the print is abstract, but I don't think it's too wild - I think it's worth considering in the parental wardrobe capsule because the fit is just divine on you.
I think #3 is a gorgeous top, but that the fit would be improved with a size up and a bra where the center gore doesn't come up as high on your chest. I think this would be a great top for a date night or for casual events, since it does show a bit more of your décolletage than the other two tops do. This would also probably be helped by sizing up in the top.
I am not crazy about the fit of #2 on you - it seems too large in the waist and too small in the bust (it looks like it's straining a bit or that the "waist" of the top is too high - as a busty woman myself, I have found myself in the same boat with tops that are designed for women with a smaller bustline.) I vote to pass on this top.

Michelle--#1 is so elegant---I think you could wear it as you're dressed in the pic--with pearls and black pencil skirt !!! Fab collar details-- very flattering over all! Where did you get it?

I'm with everyone else in thinking the first top is a 10. It is very flattering; that is a gorgeous neckline on you. I could see this working with many pieces, just not the parental capsule but also work, or for going out if you pair it with the right accessories.

#3 is a cute top as others have mentioned but with a cami. Am I the only one who thinks the fabric is a little thin? Assuming you've got the same bra on in all three photos, I can see its seams in #3 while none of your bra's details are visible with the other two tops. I do like the top, but just with something underneath.

Hi Michelle, I am just echoing the opinions of others - seems we are all in agreement this time! #1 - elegant neckline, flattering shape, interesting print, lovely colors. #2 - I think the band is meant to fall lower on your frame to emphasize just under the bust? but it's not falling there on you...OTOH, it doesn't seem to really be too small...I agree with others it just seems like not the greatest fit. #3 I think is very cute as long as you can ensure your bra isn't constantly peeking out! Great picks!

I love #1 and #3, with a cami! I like #2 too, but it's just a basic, everyday piece. Sorry I couldn't respond to your texts. Glad you had a little more success shopping today!

I am joining the crowd here...I love #1! The second shirt is a beautiful color for you, but it looks like it's pulling across the bust, and maybe the shoulders, too. If you are looking for perfection, I'd probably return this one... I love #3, too. Great color, love the wrap style; the perfect little sexy summer top. Every girl needs one. =P

I'll be the odd one out and say I really like #2. It is not a statement top but it fits well, the color is divine and it is a great 'safe' top for the parental capsule as it skims your contours and doesn't cling.

Full disclosure - I frequently wear tops like this one when I don't want to attract attention at work.

I ADORE #1. It is fantastic on you, and as others have said, extremely versatile looking. Definite keeper.

I am perhaps in a minority here because I also really like #2. It looks as if it will be useful for the parental visit and also just a lot of fun to wear because the colour suits you beautifully.

I also like #3, although as others have mentioned, you might want a different bra with it. The fact that you've said it is extremely comfortable moves me in its favour. With a sexy piece like this, comfort is key; that way, you'll wear it without self-consciousness and look your very best. If you know you'll be going out on some date nights or to summer dressy events, this could be a good investment for you.

Love #1. The neckline is absolutely gorgeous on you and the cut is really flattering. I also really love #2 on you..such a sweet and playful look! And that is such a good color for you. For a night out, I think all you need is a lower cut bra.

Love, love #1 and I think #3 will be good with a cami and tied better...#2 just doesnt look like a good fit for you- even if it just needs ironing to straighten out that 'pulling' look across the bust it still seems boxy and not nearly as figure-flattering as the others to me. But Im generally not a fan of button-downs anyway, so that may be influencing me a bit. SOOO glad you found tops you love! I'd wear #1 as often as possible!
