New Season Makeup Update

Have you refreshed your makeup for the new season? Have you found a new product or a new application technique?

I'm literally rubbish at applying makeup, I cannot do precision looks and don't have the time to practice. I have rediscovered white eyeliner on my waterline with a bitten effect lip. Foolproof and feels fresh to my eye.

Looks beautiful if you have contrast somewhere else on your face (eyebrows, lashes, skin, hair or lips).
I, for myself only apply more of a shiny, bright white (instead of a shiny but pale rose or cream for winter) highlighter under my brows and some more light neutral powders on my lids (instead of some darker ones for colder seasons). Blush is also slightly changing from dark rose to lighter pink or coral. Thats all, not major changes, I know:-)).

I am replacing make up right now...the basics: foundation, blush, eye shadow. I am also lacking when it comes to application so no tips but i really like the white liner. Thanks for posting!

That is beautiful look, I can see it looking really pretty on you.
I haven't updated much for spring yet. I am fairly happy with my new foundation which has a satin matte finish. I am looking for eye pencil in a pewter shade, very difficult to find.

Funny you should start this thread Jules because just this morning I was thinking that I wish I could find someone who gave make up lessons one to one, because I'm really not very good at eye make up at all. When Angie did her 2016 style goals blog post I said that I wanted to try new eye looks. Not a clue though! I like your inspiration photo. It looks reasonably do-able. I'm going to follow this thread ☺

YES. Blue mascara, to match my blue eyeliner. And I'm back to wearing very light lipstick.

I'd love to see that white eye-liner on, Jules. Looks fresh for Spring.

Diane, have you checked out Youtube for lessons. There are many good Tubers out their now.

I use a nude eyeliner on the waterline. I think it really helps me look more awake.

I love blue mascara, but all I seem to find in the stores is bright blue, not dark navy blue. Has anyone seen dark blue? What brand?

Karie, Neutrogena makes a dark navy, and so does L'Oreal. I've been saving my makeup $ for things like Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer and Philosophy moisturizer, so I've been looking for eye makeup at places like Target. I've been really pleased with both of the above.

Lyn, do you make the changes each season or is this a one off change?

Marble, good luck updating your makeup, changing the basics can be daunting.

Diane, you are definitely not alone. If you find any simple tutorials please share.

Angie, is the blue mascara an ink colour? I can bet it looks super with your green eyes.

Nothing new product-wise from me, but you did inspire me to start the seasonal switch-over to a warmer, bronzier look with a warmer shade of lipstick. Broke out a denim shirtdress today and the warmer tanned/bronze look feels fresh and new - after winter's grays and cooler lip colours. Also sprayed on a fresher spring fragrance today - thanks for the nudge!

FAB. The white eyeliner picks up the white in your hair, Jules. Gorgeous. And you WERE blessed with the most beautiful blue irises.

This is the blue mascara - 3rd wand. It looks ink when it's on, so dead right. Makes my eyes look greener than bluer actually, which was a surprise.

I don't generally change makeup seasonally, but I have been experimenting a lot lately and discovering some new favorites. I'm late to the highlighter game but my newest extreme love is IT Cosmetics Hello Light. I use the cream compact one...it is a "hard cream"...like you don't scoop up a dab of it, you rub your fingers or a brush over the compact and pat it on where you want.

The reason I love it so much is that it is a medium level of highlight...soft glow, nowhere near a strobing effect. It does what it is supposed to, extremely well...a soft, natural glow, nothing glitter or shiny. I've been told at least 5 times in the last month that I look happy, or my skin looks great, I must be happy because I'm just glowing, etc. Then everyone is surprised when I tell them it's the highlighter, it just looks so natural!

Drat. Can't find a picture. But I want to do bright eyeliner, corners only - like a streak of blue on the upper outer corner of the eye and a streak of blue on the inner lower corner.

I cannot apply anything inside my lash line. My eyes water too much. It's part of why I don't wear contacts anymore. They sting at the end of the day; sometimes it's hard to drive home because of the watery stingyness.

I have finally found a liner I like: Kat Von D tattoo liner. Not a brand I was interested in, but a woman at Sephora highly recommended it so I tried it a few months ago. I love it! Doesn't budge, applies product evenly and in as fine a line as you desire, and comes in chocolate brown (the best shade for me unless I want a super dramatic black look.)

My mom gave me a sample gift she got of Clinique chubby stick lip balm in mega melon, which is what I like to use most days (I add Lush lip balm for extra moisture as I chap easily in winter.) it's a pretty pink color, very natural on me.

I just purchased a white eyeliner also and am playing with it. I'm not sure I love it. What I do love is a pearly white eye shadow. It brightens my eyes and looks very spring-like when I mix it with sky blue eyeliner. This may be my new spring make-up look along with a coral pink lip.

When it starts to warm up I usually switch my foundation to a BB cream and my blush to a light bronzer. As summer approaches, I also switch my Black kohl for Brown kohl, which looks better in suummer light on me, and complete ditch the BB cream (too hot!)
I also use lighter lipsticks and more lipglosses. And start using green eyeshadow, somehow that says "summer" to me...

This has been a very (cough) eye-opening thread.

I am thinking that I need to switch my blush from a powder/compact type to a cream blush. I am also thinking it will be harder to control and for this low-skilled technician, have a higher probability of my ending up looking clown-like.

Love talking makeup. I just picked up many of the items from the new Lancome Spring 2016 collection. A bright pink lipgloss, the pink creamy blush, light blue eyeliner pencil (looks great smudged under my bottom lash line, matching blue nail polish, and a cute tin of little cubes that can be used on eyes or face.

When the weather warms up, I usually change from mostly neutrals and reddish lip colors to pinks and pops of color.

Now I just need the weather to settle down...60s over the weekend, snow yesterday evening...sigh

My favorite you tuber is Lisa Eldridge ... she is now the makeup guru for Lancome. Her videos are fabulous!!

Just chiming back in with a little tip which I discovered and first tried a few weeks back. I always use a concealer under my eyes near to the middle where I have thin skin and it always has a dark, almost purple hue to it. No matter how many concealer I've tried after a while they all dry out and look creasy. Now, all I do is dip a finger end into one of those little round blue pots of lip Vaseline and put a dab over the top of my concealer. It stops it drying out and creates an illuminating effect.

At almost 60, I don't make many changes to my makeup routine over the seasons. My moisturizer is lighter than the one I use over the colder months. I tweek my cheek color, eye shadow, and lip color over the seasons, preferring more color in the colder months to warm me up and softer colors during the warmer months. There is not a huge difference in the depth of the color, but just enough to brighten my complexion.

I usually use Bobbi Brown eye gel in ink as a liner - I find it just enough to accentuate my eyes and not make them appear small - but over the winter bought an Anastasia eyeliner pencil in a blue that I love, especially for a nice dramatic effect (color does not budge).

Hmm, I don't really make changes, either! But my makeup is kind of minimal anyway, and there are only a few colors/effects I like.

What I do tend to change is lip color. I wear a lot of red and dark red in cooler months, but often in warm weather I reach for Revlon balm stain in sheer red, and for Tangee. On me, Tangee turns into a fairly bright, sheer-ish pink. Very spring/summer and fun! It feels wonderful on, too. I would like to find another source, though. Vermont Country Store adds $7-8 shipping on top of it.

I don't change mine up much. I've always used brown mascara since I have light hair and like a natural look. I do use either a deep plum or navy soft pencil eyeliner on top lash line only. I like Origins foundation, mascara and liners and have used them for many years - no longer use/need concealer under eyes but I do use a little foundation under there too (I learned long ago that lighter concealers can make your eyes look puffy underneath and irritate my skin too much). I use Bare minerals Or Laremin blush and use brush some of the color on my eye lids just to add a hint of rosy color to my otherwise sort of light olive leaning skin tone. Sometimes I will darken my blush color slightly in summer but peach tones and bronzers don't look great on me.

Lips for me are always nudes (but I have pretty dark rose with a hint of brown lipcolor). Light tones or anything frosty looks too "fake" on me. I love a nice semi-transparent color and in summer often just use Burt's Bees or something really light like that.

I love the new trend of matching makeup to your outfit! just picked up the best mascara called "Better Than Sex" by Too Faced and it's great. I had been thinking for a while that I wanted to experiment with false lashes but after trying this mascara I don't have to!

I've been experimenting with contouring and blush. I'm finally at the age (turning 40 this year) that I can't go out without blush or lipstick. Contouring is confusing for me but I'm giving it a go.

I change my routine considerably with the seasons. In the winter I do a lot of smokey eyes and dramatic lips, and tend to do darker plums and metallics for eyes. In the summer I play a lot with color especially greens turquoise purples and pinks. Nude lips mostly. Instead of my heavy moisturizer I switch to lotion.
