New red - how do I look?

I was given this tee, and I wear it to the gym. Is it a good color for me? Also, I'm adding sons pictures of my eyes and a picture of the top I wore to work today.

I'm wearing makeup but no lipstick. I never know if I should go bright or soft (muted) with my lip color, so I rarely wear any.

To me, you look more "warm" than "cool", so if I were you, I would wear warmer colours than the cool-looking clothes you are wearing in these pictures. Instead of the red T-shirt (which, in my humble opinion, "overpowers" your soft, warm look), I suggest a rust/cognac one.

Your eyes are very beautiful - I bet you would look wonderful in teal.

And how about trying a soft brown-ish lipstick?

Okay. Just to clarify, my primary characteristic is Soft. Soft & Warm would be Soft Autumn? I went to CVS today to look at lipstick, and couldn't picture myself wearing any of the bright colors.

Wow. Our eyes are pretty much the same color, down to the gray rim around the iris and the gold flecks! Teal or turquoise tops for the win. They will make your eyes glow.

Your lips look more mauve so a true bright red might not be your friend. I agree with the others, soft and warm!

There's also the fact that I can't wear a red lippie in this color.

I like the top you wore to work today. I'd look for a different red/burgundy/etc. but I personally don't think it looks so bad you can't continue to wear it to the gym. It isn't the best, but it doesn't make you look ill like some colors make me look.

Barbara Diane: I agree this isn't my worst color. The color I struggle with is that light Periwinkle that supposedly everyone can wear. It looks really bad on me. (See pic)

I like the t-shirt red! If you're feeling that color, why not play with it? I've noticed that a lot of those boho and boho-lite blouses Angie showed with shorts come in pretty, light summer reds: coral, watermelon, guava, faded calico--all very appealing and great with denim (and with celadon green eyes.) If that sounds like something you'd like to try, check out Ann Taylor Loft, Madewell, Anthropologie, Old Navy.

I've been wanting more coral, but am not sure what my best red is. This tee is a brighter red than I'm used to.

For what its worth, I think you look better in cool colours! So the colours you work best with would have a blue (not yellow) base.

This is difficult. I have a blue-red sweater in my closet that I never wear because it seems too strong. This tee isn't a lot better, but there's something about this color that's better than the sweater. I just bought this top (see pic) and like it because it's not so strong or cool.

The red is too bright for you, IMO. But I will say that it doesn't look bad. Just not your best.

I think you look great in dusty colours. It could be that you can wear both warm and cool dusty colours. I'm not sure.

The periwinkle you mention might not be dusty enough, or it might be too much of a pastel, and you might need more mid-tones.

Smittie: That periwinkle seems to gray my skintone. It's just awful.

Tina: It's nice to meet someone with my eye color. It's not a common color, I don't think.

Cat: I'll look for a soft brownish lippie to try, and see what everyone thinks of it. Lipstick seems to be the most inexpensive way to sort things out. I happen to have a Sci-Art Soft Autumn color fan (also one of their Soft Summer color fans), and all of the lippies I wear match the colors in the Soft Autumn color fan. Their version of Soft Autumn is a little cooler than other color systems, but each of their color palettes is distinct, which avoids confusion. It's not one of those things where "both a Soft Autumn and a Soft Summer can wear _______________." The colors do not overlap. I got my color fans from Indigo Tones, though the Soft Autumn color fan they're selling now doesn't have the pinks and reds that my color fan has. Either that, or those colors simply don't show up in the picture they post online. I have taken a picture of the color fan I have. The pinks are like this:

I'm with others that the red is a fine color but this one is a little too bold or bright for you. Your eyes are a softer color and I anticipate that softer colored tops would be really pretty on you.

I agree that dusty colors would be good but also deep teal and deep coral. The periwinkle isn't really my friend either, but I do have one top that is more like a dusty bluer version and I like it. On those swatches you posted, it would be more like the color just above the periwinkle color.

It is interesting, BC, because I consider myself to have very similar colouring to you (for example, our lips are both very pink--almost purple) and yet almost all periwinkles work very well on me.

So maybe your skin is a bit warmer than mine.
Your eyes are also warmer than mine.

Smittie: I do think I'm too warm to be a Summer. I can't wear those bright Summer pinks, and I didn't even like pink until I ventured into the warmer pinks.

That top is a softer red than the tee shirt. I'm fairly sure it will work for me because it's not too cool or too warm or too light or too dark.

BC, I agree with others who feel like the red is too strong for you. And FWIW, I've been told that people who are "hard to type" are often "soft." That was certainly true in my case!

Thanks. I'm thinking I'm soft because of my eyes. It seems like strong bright colors make them look dull by comparison.
