New Handbag: Style Over Function? (pics added)

I have $500 to spend at Coach and want a new handbag and wallet.
I think I have narrowed it down to these 2 options:

MADISON LEATHER LARGE SOPHIA SATCHEL
I really like the look of this bag, but it's not a crossbody bag like I really want (so I can be hands free when with the kids).

AUDREY LEATHER ANDIE CINCHED TOTE
I'm not usually a fan of the perforated style, but I like the shape and it has an add on strap tp make it a crossbody.

So do I go with style or function?
(And just to be clear, I do like both bags. I just sort of prefer the style of the Madison but much prefer the function of the crossbody option of the Audry.)

It's easier to copy and paste the style name directly into the Coach website search function. That being said I immensely prefer the Madison. I don't like the logo on the Audrey.

Out of these two I MUCH prefer the satchel, but that is my personal taste as well as my dislike of large logos on bags. That particular tote style seems less expensive looking to me :\

The Madison has a 24" detachable strap... maybe not long enough to make it a messenger, but you could throw it across your chest like a sling when you need your hands. Or you could pick up a longer replacement strap and clip it on instead.

I really like the first bag. It has a lot of style and fine details. Very pretty colour too.

If you're talking practical, how practical is the colour of the second one? - you mentioned kids... But perhaps yours are different from mine...

I prefer the style over function bag (#1). If you could add a cross body strap that would be handy.

If you can get to a Coach Outlet, they have a style similar to the second that's not perforated. I keep "visiting" it at the outlet near me. Plus, they always give out "extra 30% off" coupons.

Thanks so much for everyone's input. I am actually suprised that everyone went with style over function, hands down. I just don't want to get the first one, and then be fighting with it everytime I am trying to carry my 7 month old, shopping bags/daycare bags/etc.

Julie--I can't use my credit at an outlet. This is my 10 year anniv. gift from my company and they do all the ordering through their corporate account. So I have to tell them what I want from the Coach site and they order it.

I prefer #1, the darker color will show less dirt over time with kids.

I like #1 much better as well. But if you're worried it's not going to work with your lifestyle, skip it because you won't reach for it as often. If you want it to be an everday bag anyway.

Is there any chance that you could get to a store to try them out? I would go for the darker color if you're planning to use it around kids. The white is going to get dingy fast. Also, the webpage says that the first one has an extra strap for xbody wear. Maybe it will work for you.

yankeebelle, are there no other bags on the coach website which float your boat? I like #1 but I don't think it's suitable for your lifestyle--in fact, I'd say that I'd find it difficult to deal with maintaining the color as well, and I don't have kids! On the other hand, it's essentially a gift, so you don't need to feel bad about it being something you only use some of the time...

The Audrey isn't white (well, they offer it in white, but I wouldn't choose white). I would get it in brass like the Madison. Don't know why it looks so light in the pic.

I strongly prefer #1 to #2, and the one in modgrl's link is very fab:)
