#6 with the front layers longer and the back cut shorter - so that it has a bit of an angle to it - I think would look spectacular on you and give you a fantastic style boost going into spring and summer!

Hi again...

The idea of a bit longer in the front is what I've gone to lately and I like it. What I think looks old lady is short curly hair with layers.

Have you ever tried a curling iron? It seems a silly idea to curl curly hair but I find a few pieces throughout, especially at the front, smoothed and curled on purpose really ups the polish factor and looks styled on purpose, rather than the bed head look I get if I go completely natural. I don't do every chunk so it really only adds a few minutes to the routine.

Ingunn, I adore your curls and think an angled cut, like 1 and 4, could really accentuate your wonderful hair and texture. Shevia gave you a good tip to look at Aida's photos and like Rae, I come from no experience as I have super straight hair!
I have poker straight hair so can't even relate Ingunn - I will say though that I adore your curly hair and would hope you work with it, not against it.

It's good you have a stylist you trust and who knows your hair very well. Maybe baby steps? Go a bit shorter for now, get used to it and see how it works, and then go for the much shorter cut (if that's what you decide on) after that.

The one thing I do know for sure? You will look gorgeous no matter what
I have bone straight hair, so I don't have a lot of useful tips to offer, but I wanted to chime in and say that your hair in photo #6 is just beautiful on you, and that if you wanted to go shorter (a la Aida) - it will look fabulous, I'm sure of it.

Just wanted to add that hair styling products, shampoo/conditioner seem to make a huge difference. Even though I have straight, blunt-cut hair, I am also prone to frizzies and the like. The right cut, and the right styling products will be just the ticket. I'm not going to recommend any particular product, because my hair isn't curly at all, and maybe some of the stuff I use wouldn't work on curly hair - let's hope that maybe Aida can chime in on this aspect.

In any case, I do think you could go shorter if you wanted to, and I think the way your hair looks in pic #6 is just fantastic on you.

My hair is curly too and I love it one day and hate it the next. I've recently gone from full curly to paired down messy and I love the change. I swear I lost a kilo with my last haircut! At the end of the day we all need a change and I'm sure I'll go back to full curly but at the moment I'm just enjoying the liberation of LESS hair. If I was you I'd keep the length but get your hairdresser to take out the 'wool'. This is what I asked for and the result is less full curls but still a wavy, messy yet more sylish do. Fortunately, my hairdresser has the tightest of curls so he understands. And, at the end of the day it's just hair and it will be back!!! Good luck and I know it's a big decision but I'm sure you will make it work!

(Have skipped others' comments to post here.)

I have nothing useful to say, lgunn, except to say that I am very empathetic here. Hormones have made my hair texture constantly changeable. Texture also various and is not consistent. I have had "moments" with great curls, and now they have transformed into wiry, lank curtains that hang down ungracefully....thus I am also contemplating going very short. But is that the answer?

We had a family celebration last week and my sister (who's got beautiful Botticelli curls) used some product on me called Heaven in Hair (made by Devachan, which makes the curly girl products). It gave me some nice body. I have no idea if it's available outside the U.S.

Sorry for the me me me....I will follow this thread avidly!

Ingunn, this may have already been said but my advice is that the shaping of the cut is crucial with curly hair. Like your inspiration pics, a gently rounded shape would be so flattering. You don't want the hair to "drag" down and look bottom heavy. I hope this make sense. I have naturally wavy / curly hair so I have had some experience with curly cuts:).

Thank you all for your comments and tips. I will definitely not cut my hair very short in one go - been there, ouch. It is a good idea to look into products, too. I do need to get more shape again, because as Deborah mentioned, bottom heavy curls in trapeze shape are not flattering on most people. My hair only looks good for a day or so after washing now, so action is necessary. I'm thinking that a sharper angle on the bob could be enough change for me for now. It would be nice to be able to pull it away, too, particularly in Summer.

Ingunn, I got my hair cut today in a style similar to what you're contemplating. Basically I asked for the back to be cut close to the hairline (the hair there is now about 1 in.) and angled towards the front, but not a steep angle. I'm still growing out bangs, and some layers, but it looks a lot like your first picture with maybe just a little more volume.

I'm travelling for work, so only have the fuzzy iPad pic I posted in my WIW today. Will have better pics later this week when I get home.

I've been using the curly girl method for almost 10 years now. Highly recommend checking it out! I like http://www.naturallycurly.com as a resource, especially the forums ("curl talk").
