GREAT CHOICE!

Now, if only our Junuary would go away....

I chose number one completely on the basis that it's the one that would have stayed in my foot! So funny that ended up being the way you went

Thanks all! Happy to report that I did wear the sandals for our museum visit Saturday and they felt great for 2 hours of walking/standing around.

Angie, YES, so ready for the end of Junuary. I am really hitting a wall with the weather, but trying to focus on the possibility that the rain is helping all my newly planted veggie, perennial, and native plants develop strong root systems. Grasping at silver linings here...

Haha, Junuary. Here too but supposed to get 90's this week!

Great choice. The slipping off the side thing would be a deal breaker for me too.

RobinF, yes! Making a mental note for the future that these asymmetric styles are unlikely to work for me. (Never say never, and all that, ofc.)

I like the pair you chose! X shaped straps are more secure on the foot!

Indeed! Definitely a lesson learned for the future!

I’m not so sure about diagonal straps being more secure. These have them, but my heel still slips off to the side, much like you described. But I’m glad yours doesn’t on the sandals you’ve chosen.

Good point that there's no guarantee, SF. Maybe my sandals are less slippy because of the wider straps? Also as mentioned they straps are made out of elastic material, not leather -- so they fit very tightly. Or perhaps just the variations in foot form from one person to the next -- those asymmetrical sandals that were unworkable for me might be perfect for someone else.
