Necklaces - what is trending?

Hi All
I have never paid much attention to jewellery trends because I was very clear on what I liked. It had to be edgy and quite chunky. Now that my hair is silver and I am wearing specs more than contact lenses I am leaning towards more minimal jewellery. I have not been wearing necklaces much at all in recent times but now am feeling a pull towards a dainty necklace, a short and fine silver chain with a small pendant of sorts. I am curious though what is actually trendy in this regard currently. Does anyone know? Also what types of necklaces do you guys prefer, if any? Do you wear signature looks or change with the trends?

Star, to answer your question, '90s necklaces are trending! Black ribbons and chokers with pendants. Rosette and rose necklaces too. And anything from the sea because of Mermaidcore (seashells, fish, star fish, coral, pearls, oysters, for example).

Personally, I stick to my white pearl necklaces. Signature. Classic. They are part of me. I wear pearls when I walk on trails, and do house work. Go to the beach with the doggies. Fly. Cook. Enough said! All custom-made over many years and gifts from hugs Greg. Most are Japanese pearls. Some Australian.

I follow a few fashion YouTubers who design jewellery or have collaborations with jewellery companies, and their tendency is to layer very fine but different looking necklaces of slightly different lengths. Not sure if it’s a trend…

Other than small studs in my pierced ears, I wear no jewellery.

I like layered necklaces and usually find a few at Lucky Brand ( favorite forever ) or at Macy's. For work I prefer single necklace with small pendant.

From what I can tell, necklaces aren't trending the way other types of jewelry are right now - long/big earrings, bold bangles/cuff bracelets, chunky rings. But what there is is following the same trends as other jewelry, which is trending towards larger, more noticeable, statement-type jewelry. Fine and subtle was the trend for a long while, but trends seem to be moving in the opposite direction. Oh, and while this is common in the summertime, color in jewelry is also trending.

All that said, I am a big believer in you doing you as far as jewelry is concerned. Jewelry seems to me to be an even more intimate expression of self than clothing sometimes, and there is nothing I love more than someone willing to rock their thing despite what is expected or trending. Jewelry, especially if it is genuine precious metals and stones, simply can't be changed as the wind blows for most people, nor should it be. Wear what is meaningful or best for yourself and don't worry about what's trending. Whatever it is, I guarantee it will come back around in time.

Hmm, the fashiony people I follow on Instagram are wearing multiple small necklaces like Runcarla said, although I wouldn't be surprised if the chunky look is next - the pendulum swinging. I just wear a plain silver chain with a gold slider thing on it because I like the mix of silver and gold. I don't remove it.

Jewellery is the one thing that I wear that is not influenced by the winds of fashion blowing all over the place . I have everything in every style and size and material and wear whatever feels right with a certain outfit or on a certain day . What I am trying to do is collect more personal pieces instead of buying whatever gold earring I think will complete an outfit .

I have seen thin, delicate layered necklaces on YouTubers. I don't usually wear necklaces, but that might change. I have been looking through my collection and thinking about wearing some again.
Sometimes I like to wear gold chains with a pendant (one at a time), and other times I like to wear a statement necklace. I don't worry about trends.
I always wear earrings, rings, and bracelets.

Angie Thanks for the trend update. Your pearl collection is beautiful. I love that it is meaningful too. I particularly love the single pearl necklace, a piece like that is kind of what I have in mind, but probably not a pearl.

I am going to be on the look out for an inexpensive piece to see if it is what I really want. There is a small shop in our town from where I have bought a few pairs of earrings which may have what I have in mind.

I have seen necklaces and other jewelry go from chunky to delicate and back again. I think now it is slowly going more delicate. Wear what looks good on you.

I’m a big necklace fan but I just wear what I like. I’m not really worried about trends. A lot of my necklaces are vintage or custom made Etsy items.

But, I would say I’m opting for shorter necklaces more than long necklaces these days. And I think that’s related to the trend for shorter tops and waist defining looks. Back in the days of tunics and skinnies I wore very long necklaces, but not so much these days.

Jewelry is one of those areas where I don’t pay a ton of attention to trends unless something really grabs me — and then I’ll adopt it for a long time regardless of trend.

I’m not super into statement necklaces at the moment, but I’ve kept most of mine because sometimes, with a neutral plain top, they’re just the right thing. I’m more into statement rings, and I wear earrings every day, so sometimes a necklace along with that, plus my glasses, etc, just feels a little over-accessorized. But sometimes an open neckline feels too bare and I’ll add one of my simpler silver chains with a small silver pendant like the firefly I inherited from my mom, or one with an interesting stone or design that I’ve bought over the years.

Janet I know what you mean re too much going on with glasses, necklaces and earrings. I also never go without earrings and rings, and have been giving necklaces a big miss now that I wear my glasses more often. The pendant necklace that you describe sounds exactly like what I am after currently. Fine silver and a small pendant. Also to fill in a neckline occasionally. So high five.
