@BrieN: i love all the plaid especially that sosken coat, but i never wear pattern except an occasional pant. and if it's cold enough for a long coat, i'm wearing a puffer.

@annagybe: sorry about the lack of size indications. it's a bit challenging to plan since you might have to buy it all just in case something fits.

I have my eye on the Tibi shirt and Halogen wrap, too. What color were you thinking for the wrap? I'm leaning toward the burgundy rouge. On my list, the black Aquatalia boots are a HEWI- fingers crossed that these fit better than the ones from last year did on my. I could use a make-up update, and am curious what accessories will appear. The Gas Bijoux earrings seem fun.

All I've been eyeing so far are the Aqutalia booties. But I am waiting for the main sale when so much more comes available.

Next week! It feels a little like grown-up Christmas.

I've worn my Aqutalia booties from a few years ago into the ground so I'm looking for a replacement. Also snow boots and a good fleece - like Patagonia or North Face. I might nab a higher end sweater if there's a color I love. I'm going to try to play it cool this year and only get things that I really need or that or usually over my price range. Here in the PNW it hasn't even really turned to summer so I'm having a really hard time thinking about fall/winter!

@Kathie: ooo, those are nice earrings. I like the concept of aquatalia but I haven’t found a pair with enough of a pointy toe rather than almond and the shaft decorations are too much. But then my feet freeze in winter!

@Thistle: I’m thinking of the heeled sock booties myself but so impractical.

Smart idea! I've collected a bunch of Finds, but the actual needs are few -- replenishing basics and waterproof booties and boots.

As for wants, that's a different matter! Definitely something checked/ glen plaid. Maybe some lavender/ lilac as well. And updated denim.

Like Suz I am collecting some of the items I am considering. Including a few things I am hoping to use for holiday gifts. The Natori bras are both contenders as they come in small band sizes. The Feathers ones I have are wonderful.

Here are a few contenders, and my random thoughts on them.

Photo 1: The brown version of the black Aquatalias. Not sure about this colour. Seems a bit orangey. Might be ok in person though.

Photo 2: Spanx camo faux-leather leggings. These are cool! They'd look good with a long cardigan too. But I'm not sure I could wear leggings in public. Maybe if they're really thick?

Photo 3: Satin duffel bag. Seems like it would make a nice gym bag. My old gym bag is serviceable but not very cute, like this one.

Find 1: Topshop cardi. I like that it's kind of chunky, long, and practical.

Find 2: Navy sweater. Looks like a nice cut. I'm not sure I want to pay for cashmere though.

Find 3: The black Aquatalias. Love the look of these. Plain and simple, and will elongate the leg line. This is probably my #1 Top Pick for NAS so far.

Find 4: Chocolate All Saints bag. This seems like the perfect size for me. Adore the colour (at least online). Not sure if this works ok with the brown or black Aquatalias, so I'm torn.

Find 5: Blondo boots found by Suz. This boot type seems like a fan favourite on YLF so I'm really tempted.

Suz: Are those Blondos (Find 5) part of the NAS?

smittie, those Spanx faux leather leggings look a lot like the ones that were an Angie top pick from 2016. I got them and they're really terrific, very stretchy but thick and comfortable. They don't feel exposed at all. I have worn them a lot with short dresses, my version of the tunic and leggings formula.

Ginger, I immediately looked up where you live, because I figured it was somewhere much warmer than where I am. And sure enough, you’re in TX and I’m in MA.

I have a pair of faux leather leggings which were a gift. I have found it almost never to be the right temperature for them here. They just don’t seem to have the cooling properties of cotton leggings nor the warmth of fleece synthetic ones. I’ve ended up wearing fleece leggings underneath them in colder weather and that seems to be the best plan for my climate.

In what weather conditions do you wear yours?

LOL! That's a good question, actually. Though my personal thermostat is also probably skewed from yours; I keep my house at 78-80F in the summer, and can't handle it below 70F in the daytime in winter. (Seriously, I get cold enough that my fingernails turn a delicate shade of lavender.) That said, these are middling temperature wear for me. Or more middling-to-cold wear if I didn't have my longish, windy walk on workdays.

The Spanx leggings feel more like athletic leggings than leather. The leather look is in the finish (which is great, it doesn't wash out) but they do not block a cold wind. These are really too snug for me to layer, so I wear them when it's nippy out but not actually that cold. I discovered some "fur" lined leggings at DSW this past winter that I basically lived in when it got really cold.

I don't want anything long on my legs when the temperature can get over the mid 70s. That's one reason that jeans are not a staple of my wardrobe. But I reach for these when both morning and afternoon temperatures are chilly for me.

Does that help at all? If you don't have the right kind of middling temperatures, I can see how it would be hard to wear them. But if you can wear fleece under them it sounds like a really good plan. The look is terrific and punches up a super comfortable outfit to look pretty sharp.

3style: I live in a cold climate and would wear the leggings with tall boots and a parka, and then switch the boots for shoes or booties inside.

I think the thing that I struggle most with these style-wise is: how “rocker chic” do I need to go so that they don’t look like gear leggings nor nightclub attire. I do tend to give up in the end and just wear them as gear.

What are some ideas for tops/tunics/dresses? I tend to feel like my banded wool or cotton pullovers that just barely cover my rear are too short and kind of incongruous and yet my just above the knee dresses are too long. However, with styles heading towards more tucked looks, I’m hesitant to buy tunics now.

Sorry not trying to be difficult, they do wash very well as Ginger was saying, so I’ve been hesitant to ditch them though they have always puzzled me.

I think it's a very personal thing, because it depends on the vibe you want and don't want, and you also want to stay with your personal style.

That said, to me they don't look like gear at all. Even with a hoodie and athletic shoes they'd look pretty sharp, not the typical shine of workout gear.

I'm tall, and these emphasize my legs like whoa, so I play it down a bit. I agree they look awkward with dresses that are longer. The outfits I like best are shorter dresses that are not highly fitted. The loose fit of the dress, and casual knit or sweater fabrication, is offset by the sleek leather look. I don't like A-line or shirt dresses on me, but I think they would also look great with the leggings.

Footwear makes a difference, too. I usually wear close-fitting booties, or occasionally a pump. But I'm not very adventurous with footwear.

Ginger thanks for organizing the Finds above. I think that I’ve been completely oblivious to this genre of dresses. When I think about why, I think it’s because they look like comfortable dresses which are not the least bit cat proof! I’ve often had cats which like to knead my lap and this kind of dress can sometimes snag on a kitty’s claw.

There are many things which are dressy enough that I always avoid wearing them around cats, but these types of dresses are just casual enough to tempt me to try wearing them in the presence of a cat and then regret having done so....
