no!! i know this feeling. not fun. i had to think of worst case scenarios in order to keep perspective. helped. so disappointing though!!

Oh Sona that's rotten, I'm so sorry! Hopefully they tripped down the escalator and got a face bump on the way out :p

Oh my gosh, I can't believe that happened, in Minnesota no less! Your credit card company should cover it, right? (Sorry if someone already suggested that - I didn't read all the replies).

That stinks! I'm so sorry this happened to you.

Hugs to you and stay positive!

Sona, how awful ! After all that you have been dealing with, a little pick me up turns into something terrible. I usually don't like being vengeful, but I really hope that Karma b***h slaps whoever did it. No one needed the clothes that badly. The poor have ethics...these people are just punks.

ETA : Sona, if you used a credit card, your items may be insured by them. My Visa, through Chase Manhattan, will cover anything stolen before I make it home. Am Ex used to do the same thing......I don't know if they still do. It may be worth a call.

I do not understand how people can do stuff like this. I'm so sorry, Sona!

So sorry, Sona - that sucks. It's such a rotten thing for someone to do. I'm sending you a big virtual hug!

How awful! It's not the money, it's the idea of it - that someone would just take something that you were carrying around as you enjoyed yourself at the mall, trying on things and so on.

I'm so sorry this happened, and glad you reported it at the Nordstrom store. It's been a long time since something like this happened to me, but I remember how awful it felt.

Hang in there, and I'm thinking of you, sending along lots of "good things" vibes your way.

Dear Sona, what a weird and yucky turn of events. You have all of us as your boosters and we're all sending you a comforting hug. Smile though your heart is aching.

Oh, how awful, Sona. Big big hugs to you and I'm so sorry.

Did you say that you paid with cash for these? Because if you used a credit card, wouldn't the thief have to produce that same card to get a refund? I guess they could manage to get store credit otherwise....I don't want to give you false hope, but at the same time I do hope you get these back!

Oh, Sona -- I just felt sick reading this. So sorry.

they will probably try to get store credit or sell on ebay perhaps? No go with any kind of theft protection per my cc company because I paid for the goods and the merchant did not obtain my information fraudulently.

Anyway, I really appreciate your support and words. It just makes me question humanity and where a depressed economy can get us. A few months ago there was arson at the Mall of America perpetuated by a group of school kids of all groups who started beatig and robbing kiosk owners.

I am teaching my daughter to leave even the lone penny found on a deserted path alone: it is a penny someone else earned.

Oh, that's a bummer! I'm so sorry

Sona, the credit card doesn't need to be used fraudulently. Many credit cards insures any item for up to 90 days if the item is stolen for up to $500, sometimes $1000. You can call your credit card company and find out. If they do it, you file a claim and they will reimburse you the $200. Here is an exerpt :

Visa has a program that applies to all of its business cards and some lines of its personal cards to protect you if your purchases are stolen or damaged. Visa does not cover lost items. Visa will replace or repair damaged items and will replace stolen items if they were purchased entirely with your card. The loss must occur within 90 days of the purchase to be eligible for repair or reimbursement. Your goods are covered for up to $500 per claim. If the goods are damaged, it must be due to fire, vandalism, accidentally discharged water or certain weather conditions, at a benefit administrator's discretion. Not all card issuers offer all coverages; Visa suggests you check the terms and conditions of your issuer.

MasterCard
MasterCard also has a program to help you if your goods are damaged or stolen. It does not cover lost items. Your goods are only covered for 90 days after the purchase. The benefits from MasterCard vary by card type and the bank that issued it. You can call MasterCard to check your benefits, regardless of which bank issued your card.

Discover
Discover also has a merchandise protection program, but it is only available with its business card line. Discover insures your purchased business merchandise up to 90 days from the date of purchase. It covers theft and damage as well as fire damage as a separate type of damage rather than as a cause of the damage, like Visa does.

American Express
American Express offers purchase protection against theft or damage, but does not cover lost purchases. American Express covers your damaged or stolen goods up to a value of $1,000 per occurrence and up to $50,000 per cardholder annually. American Express even covers products you purchase as gifts. American Express covers only accidental damage to your goods and covers theft or damages up to 90 days from the purchase date. One caveat is that American Express is the secondary insured, so if you have renter's, homeowner's or auto insurance that may cover the loss, you must file with the other insurance first, and American Express will pick up the difference up to the coverage limit.

Sona, I'm so sorry, that's horrible!

Sona is there any chance it was picked up my mistake? Have you left your details at the H &M store just in case?

Ack there are no words to describe some people, we just have to hope that karma gets them in the end (((hugs))) x

Hugs sona :(... Karma will surely catch up with him...

Update:Details left with both nordstrom and h and m. called them both at closing last night:: nothing found. My bank visa card says I can file a police report and then they will see what they can do. I'm not sure its worth the trouble to go file a police report.

For now I'm just letting this go. Too much going on to let this continue to be a ad tale. It is a cautionary one though. Do not set shopping bags down asa far as possible or bring a large tote of your own!

That is so sad! I'm sure fate will send something good your way to make up for this and something rotten the thief's way!

So sorry this happened! I hope something good comes along as others have said.

Sona, you poor thing! this is just so rotten it is utterly unbelievable :'-(

I am so sorry that happened to you. hugs!

Did you check the mall lost and found?

I feel just horrible for you!

Isabel that was so nice of you to research that! Good info for us all to know about.

You can likely file a police report online, which makes is easier. We did that when we had a package stolen off our front porch, which was needed to file a claim w UPS.

Sona, I'm so sorry. This just makes me sick!

I usually place my bags between my feet when I'm trying something on over my clothes out on the sales floor.

I'm glad that you're able to let go of the anger...better for your body that way.

More hugs!

Oh Sona - I am so sorry to hear this! What a disappointment! I remember one time when I was really, really poor, I saved up my money to buy some decent skin care products at the mall - I was so excited and after I bought them I went to the food court and sat down and had a cup of coffee and a cookie. Well, when I got up to leave (and go to my car) I forgot to take the shopping bag of my skin care products with me. I had parked a long ways out in the parking lot and I didn't realize that I had forgotten the bag until I got to my car. I just paniced - and actually got weepy! I made my way back into the mall with tears streaming down my cheeks - it was just kind of the last straw for me in a series of "bad luck." Well lo and behold, there were two older women sitting at a table who had noticed the shopping bag sitting there on the chair and so they picked it up and took it to their table, hoping that the owner would return looking for it! When they saw me and waved me over I was just so happy and so heartend that there were people like that who would try to help you out, rather than take advantage of you that I walked around on clouds for weeks after. And whenever I used the skin care products, I would think of those 2 kind ladies.

I wish that your story would end like that!
