That just stinks. I agree with the others who said that part of the ambiance is to create a "mystique" and "exclusivity". I also think that they don't want one off customers. They want regulars. I have only felt this way once...years ago when Henri Bendel opened a store in the Boston area. The sales people looked you up and down head to toe and were just not helpful at all. At first I thought it unusual that the people at the MAC counter were so friendly and then I found out that they actually worked for MAC and not Bendel.
