I’d like to see more stylish lasses wear ensembles that HIDE their waistline. Showing off your waistline came up in the post about alluring outfits yesterday and that’s interesting. Now I’m challenging you to feel alluring without a defined waist. Do you think you can wing it?

Hmmm, let’s see, Laura, Kristen and Khris have the look down. Maya too. Have I left anyone out?

Yes, Louise - you nailed it. And that's a BIG step for a pretty pear with a microscopic waistline to achieve. I'm much impressed. You rock. How do you feel in that top?

I'm stoked! I've been wanting to find some sort of drop waist Chanel-esque dress, so if I find one in my searches tomorrow, I will take you up on the challenge Angie!

As of right now, I don't think I have anything that doesn't hug my waist; being an inverted triangle with a defined waist I'm always told that it should be the focus of my outfit, so this will be a fun experiment. I hope I find something!

Or now that I think about it, is drop waist similar to empire waist, only it lowers instead of raises? If that's the case I guess I'll have to rethink my strategy.

I don't think I had a chance to reply to that blog post, Angie, but it was something on my mind. For me, because I wear heels and dresses as a matter of course now at work, that doesn't automatically make them "alluring" or "sexy". BUT, I do feel very sexy when I am in a slouchy, "rumpled" look. Not sloppy, but something deliberately loose and vaguely casual. Volume, as it were.

Here is what I am wearing today as an example. I've got my schoolmarm glasses and my Converse on, and I'm heading out for burgers and fireworks with my husband. I could not feel more sexy if I tried!

I wore this one with my new zipper leggings to dinner at our favorite, most amazing, beautiful and romantic vegan restaurant.

There is no way to see a waist in this dress unless I put my hands in the front "pockets" and pull the dress in close, but maybe the knotted drape in front defines a waist anyway? Curious to hear your thoughts on this one. Seems rather sack-like to me.

I don't really feel sexy.
I do have waistless styles. I might feel edgy, but that is as far as it goes.
I have strong shoulders, ribcage and thighs - waistless styles show all these without any mitigation!

Yes, Maya - the very same one! Loved it even more on the second visit. The first floor is more bistro-esque and has sidewalk seating for people who like an al fresco dining experience. You actually have to walk up several flights of stairs to get to the lovely dining room that I am calling "romantic," but that could also simply be seen as aesthetically pleasing.

It's funny, Maya I was thinking of you when we were there last night because there was a large table of hip-looking young people, and we decided (based on no information) that they must be a crew of graphic-designer coworkers.

Well, I have dragged this thread rather far from the topic of waistlessness, so let me find some way of returning my restaurant review to Angie's intended subject. How about: "I wore a sack dress to this great restaurant..."

Angie -- good to know I'm on the right track! Not a look I would have considered for myself pre-YLF.

Sorry Angie, I don't want to do this challenge! You see, I have always hated - despised - bemoaned - my thick waist, until I found YLF. And since then I have learned to actually kinda like it, and want to play it up, and feel alluring when I do! So count me out - for now at least, because I'm really enjoying this new discovery.

In the past, an A-line dress I can do for sure, one that is on the shorter side, and shows off the legs (with tights).

But banded waist - sorry, I have tried on a zillion, and every one of them makes me look like a little Wren: puffy body and spindly short legs! While I admire it on others, it's just not a good look for me. Not just what it does to me horizontally (look really pregnant or like I have one mammoth super-droopy breast; and it swallows what butt I have) but vertically too (proportions are all wrong). I could see how it *might* be passable if I could play up collarbone, neck, shoulders but unfortunately these are my absolute worst features of all.
I really did try though.

I think Ana's sniffing was a bloodhound sniff, not a crying sniff :p I don't have much of a waist to define so I feel best just bypassing it entirely. I guess this would be more of a challenge if I had a waist. I can see why it might be hard.

I am not opposed to volume at all and I am actually more comfortable hiding my waist than accentuating it. I would love a sack dress, but haven't come across anything that works for my lifestyle. I was considering this dress:

But I decided I am not buying any more summer stuff, unless I see something that I absolutely love, and chances are slim, since I don't do much shopping. Maybe seeing pictures here will give me some ideas.

Oh boy.. I may not be able to participate in this one for two reasons. As a life-long hourglass at any size, I've *always* gravitated towards waist-defining clothes. And now that I'm bigger than I used to be, with body image issues that ballooned even more than my size, my waist is one of the few physical features I don't mind emphasizing. I don't think I own anything that doesn't eventually define it! I am interested to hear if this is a look hourglasses can pull off in general, though.

Angie I didn't say I wasn't comfortable wearing voluminous/waist less pieces. I do wear them from time to time.

(probably one of the first pics I posted on YLF) with a gathered empire line is waistless. Especially since I have such a long waist (2 1/2 hands width, the longest of anyone on your blog the other day) the band is so far away from my waist. But I understand if that isn't what you are looking for. I have heaps of tops in that style. But I don't feel alluring in them!

2. I do have one from hanging from the shoulder too. It is black so hard to photograph

3. I think for this look to be alluring you need long and nice legs! Looking over the thread that is the common point of everyone who can "do" this style

4. I have a nice back. I'd gladly go waistless if I could show as compensation it but it just isn't practical or modest.
