Daisy Avalin - your upgrading rings a bell to me too. Often when I've specially bought something for loungewear I end up wearing it out as well.

3Style -- I have had really good luck with two brands: Ralph Lauren and Uniqlo.

I used to buy separates and lived in Tommy Hilfiger lounge pants/Jockey camisoles. I bought all my sleep wear in December when it went on sale. I was exceptionally happy with them until we started spending weekends away. I started searching for something that would allow me to be modestly comfortable and settled on Ralph Lauren PJ sets. I was hooked from that moment. I am still trying to figure out what is going to happen in the summer months because long sleeve PJ tops make no sense at this moment.

Yes, I do this all the time. In fact, for this reason I seldon even buy sleepwear. For bottoms, I use older Lululemon and lululemon types of looser fit bottoms (non leggings). Very useful if you want to stay in your PJ but must run out or if people come in or whatever, because you look like you are in casual clothing and not in your actual clothes you selpt in.

Yes, I do it and it works for me. I like multi-purpose clothes! In Winter I wear pretty t-shirts under woolen pullovers instead of camis (I do not own camis) and the same t-shirts come out in Spring, worn as tops under a jacket or a cardi. As pajamas I use sportswear, as Krishnidoux. A classic pajamas makes me feel frumpy and "ill". I only own one pajamas just because I could not resist the funny cat print and it's very well made and looks polished. As per downgrading clothes I have always done it but recently I realized that it is better not to exaggerate. Extremely battered, holey, faded clothes can be dangerous for the mood!

Sterling, Regarding Uniqlo sleepwear, are there any styles that you like which are still available and that you could make links/finds? I find Uniqlo kind of overwhelming. Everything seems huge or tiny, and I lose patience trying to get the right size, so if I knew a few styles to have more patience to try several sizes, it would help.

This post inspired me to order 3 cotton dresses from Zappos to potentially wear as nighties. Fingers crossed. The reviews say that they are thick fabric and not clingy, so if they still have your size, Sterling, it might be worth a look.

3Style -- I wear pajama sets (long sleeved tops with matching or coordinating bottoms), not nighties. I think you are looking for something different than what I wear.

Shopping at Uniqlo is very challenging for me. I have to guess my size. If I guess wrong, I have to pay return shipping ($7). It usually takes at least three weeks to get my refund.

This means I am a very careful shopper at Uniqlo. Although I was lucky with my two pajama sets, it was just that .... luck. I did buy a larger size and am comfortable sleeping in oversized clothing so that worked out for me too. The fabric is a nice, really crisp cotton, which I love.

I have only successfully shopped Uniqlo three times in two years for all the reasons I cite above.

I know people on YLF love them and have had great success. Uniqlo seems to have really well made clothing items at very reasonable prices, but the guessing of sizes is complex. I have NEVER tried any of their bottoms because I think that would be impossible. I have to be really excited about something to risk any purchase from them.

Uniqlo is best shopped in person. Goodness knows I have tried and tried to shop on line. I don’t have an aversion to paying the return freight and waiting for the refund. But I feel that I don’t get to see the whole offering like I do in store. But the store is limited in sizes. So I browse in person and buy my size online while I am in the store. Pita, but it has worked out the last two times and I wore and wore and wore the items that I got.

They have very nice clothing, bj1111. I genuinely wish I could browse in the store. I am pretty sure I would become a regular customer.

Sterling, Since you vouched for the quality, I found 3 RL items that were my kind of thing and ordered them. If I’m understanding correctly, it’s true that we cannot create new finds directly from iPhone?

I doubt that I will keep all six, (these plus the ones from Joules) but I’m getting acclimated to shipping home stuff which I have not seen IRL.

I am a big fan of Ralph Lauren. I look forward to hearing what you think.

@3style or @Sterling, If you’re still looking for cold weather pjs, bedheadz has great flannely sets in super fun prints.

You mean bedheadpjs.com?
Bedheadz seems to be a brand of “sleeping bonnets.”

Yes, bedheadspjs

Thank you so much Bonnie, I looked at the vendor website for that brand and felt like it wasn’t going to be on budget for me. I looked at Amazon just now and ordered two of the “ women’s short robes.” Much more affordable.

If they work, besides being good robes, they are exactly the kind of thing I like as a swimsuit cover up: I live in a beach town, and I like a heavy cotton coverup because we tend towards icy water and brisk breeze, even on some hot days.

OH Bonnie!!!!! NOW I want them. Going to Amazon right now. Thank you.

Let me see ... Here are a few examples from my wardrobe:

I have some pairs of pj pants which don't look like nightwear and which are so nice that I wear them as loungewear and, in spring and summer, even as streetwear with a long topper. When wearing them as loungewear or streetwear I don't wear them with a matching pj jacket, but style them with various tops and toppers. In fact, I only use them as sleepwear when going to places where temperatures are very low.

I usually sleep in long T-shirts or long tank tops, but choose ones that don't look like typical nightwear. I like to use them as tops as well (over jeans, crops or dress pants) at least around the house or when lounging. In addition, I use them as beach cover-ups.

Tank tops, lace camisoles and simple solid (stretch) T-shirts are used as tops in summer, and as underwear in winter.

Pashmina style shawls are used as toppers, but also as scarves.

Ralph Lauren items arrived today.

The lightweight pajamas are excellent.
As per previous conversation, I will try them one more time in the next day or two to make sure that I like the fit.

The sleeveless night gown is also excellent quality. Kind of wish the print was either bolder or more subtle, but I think that the way it is made will probably work best for frequent washing. I’m pretty sure that it fits fine but will do a quick double check.

The button down nightshirt has a very odd fit. I ordered a small, but it fit more like a petite medium. Wider body and narrow shoulders and sleeves cuffs that are too short and hit my elbow in a constricting way because they were too short. So not for me.

Joules dresses (faux nightgowns) failed to arrive but it seems like ups knows that they screwed up and will arrive tomorrow.

The Cat -- Your PJ Sets sound like what I am trying achieve. And you certainly manage to get multiple uses out of your items. That seems to be the point that 3Style was aiming for. I am certainly not at that point yet. If you wear the pants in your PJ set more than the tops, do you wash them together or just wash the bottoms? I admit to wearing the bottoms more and only washing the bottoms.

On a side note, I have always admired PJ Sets.

3Style -- I am so glad you like the Ralph Lauren. Here is the thing, they actually become more comfortable with wear. I find the fabric softens up and gets cozy!!!!! At least, the winter flannel does. The crisp cottons have softened, but are still "crisp" if that makes any sense.

I’m coming back to add something about PJ’s. I recently replaced some worn out items and rather than get cotton or flannel, I purchased washable silk. They weren’t much more expensive but they take up much less space. I like that idea, especially because the main time I need them is when I travel. They are light, compact, sturdy and easy to maintain. My mother had purchased a washable silk nightgown 20 years ago and it’s still in decent enough shape for wearing at home, which is what gave me the idea.

I wear a capsule of solid tee shirts, track pants and sweaters as loungewear, sleepwear and dog walking clothes. This capsule has a cohesive palette: cadet blue, sky blue, charcoal, speckled light grey, neon orange. I have sneakers, running shoes and a puffer jacket that match the palette.
I find this arrangement works really well for me. Very comfortable, cohesive and practical. It’s important that the track pants are very comfortable but still presentable so that the outfits function across all the activities I need them to.
The only disadvantage to this system is that because I sleep in this capsule as well, it gets worn out very quickly, a year is all I get.
This is actually a really important part of my wardrobe because a lot of the time that my kids and husband see me I am wearing this capsule. Also when I walk the dog I frequently bump into people I know.

Jussie -- You had me at "very comfortable, cohesive, and practical." Could you please tell me about your track pants (e.g., length and fabric). They might be just what I am seeking.

Sterling my current track pant capsule is this:
3x cadet blue Kmart slim fit with zippers on the pockets and ribbed section at the hem (soft jersey). These were very cheap, but also are the most flattering track pants ever so that’s a win.
1x cadet blue Bonds loose fit but not too loose (soft jersey).
1 x grey speckled Bonds slim fit (thinner, almost high-tech type of fabric but still thick and comfy).
None have logos or writing of any kind on them, and the slim fit ones are nowhere near skin tight or legging style.
Good luck with it all! I actually find track pants a bit tricky to find, they can be so unflattering.

Interesting thread... so many different ways of doing things!

About the only "Downgrading" I do is tees that start off as nice, even work-worthy (my office is pretty casual in the summer) and move to casual cottage or around the house or wear under hoodies in the winter.

At home, I often wear Lululemon bottoms (not tights, but looser pants) with tees and lightweight zip hoodies. This is what I consider "loungewear" for me. I sleep in pj's, and I think pretty much all of them are purchased from Costco. Cheap, and comfortable. I have various types...soft knit ones with short sleeves and long pants for spring/fall, summer ones that are cotton woven bottoms (long and/or shorts) with tank tees, or winter ones with flannel bottoms with long sleeved knit tees.

I can't stand wearing pj's anywhere other than in bed, so I don't get seen in them except by family. Or surprise middle of the night encounters in hallways when visiting

Answering your question to me, Sterling:

Yes, I use my pj bottoms more than my tops, and I wash the bottoms more often. By the way, in some cases, I only purchase the bottoms. However, I have a set that I have had for 16 years, and it still looks good.
