Minx Shoes - can't decide if fabulous or fugly!

Minx shoes are very popular here in NZ (NZ designed, made overseas). Many of their designs have a hidden wedge in them. I have been looking at them as I am considering an additional pair of shoes - work/casual. I am probably not going to get any footwear at all for a couple of weeks as I am determined to have a shopping free month.

Here are a sample of their current designs. I can't decide if they are fun and fabulous, or a bit fugly. People rate them for their comfort factor and the extra height as well.

Photo 4 shows the design that seems to be very popular here.

I like the first 3 a lot! 3 is fun with the stripes and I like the hidden wedge in 1. I feel like the hidden wedge sneaker in 4 has come and gone already.

Kelly - I like the 3rd one the best too. I think 1 and 2 would have to be tried on to really see what they look like....and I am not very fond of 4 but this would be one of the most common footwear styles here at the moment.

Jessikams- my friends who wear 4 love the hidden wedge.

There are lots and lots of designs and colourways.....at the moment I am just observing when I don't feel I have the right footwear and what would be right as we enter summer. Aside from heels my current spring and summer options are in the finds below. I haven't quite worked out where the gap is (I have just retired some cream oxfords and some cream wedge sandals).

I really like them. They have the sporty vibe that has been trending the last few years but without looking like gear — I like that. I’m intrigued with the first pair, I think they need to be seen on actual feet to assess. But 2 and 3 are fun too.

I’m thinking summer too. I just bought this Django and Juliette pair. I’m liking the platform styles.

I agree one would have to be seen on the foot.

I could see these styles with jeans, casual jogger style pants, shorts.....

I do think these hybrid styles between sneakers, sandals, oxfords, loafers are very popular right now.....One issue I have is that my feet get very hot in summer and closed in shoes can quickly become not appealing unless I can wear decent sweat absorbing socks.

I had some silver slip on sneaker/loafers a couple of years back and they were a real workhorse

I like them but between the open toe and hidden wedge, they are forbidden for me. I like all the styles you have shown. They remind me a bit of espadrilles, My favorite summer shoes now that I can not wear sandals.

I own 3 pairs of Minx, 2 are boots one tall and one ankle, and one pair sandals. They are all good quality. But every season I only like a tiny portion of the range. Mainly because most of them are too chunky for me and I find them ugly!

I think some of these, especially #4, would “read” very differently on young women vs women of a certain age.

I don’t quite understand them, tbh. Why wear heels if you’re going to conceal them? I think of possible lower back issues and less ability to move freely as drawbacks of heels. I have some heels, all chosen very carefully to make sure they are comfortable, balanced in a way that doesn’t hurt my back, and that i can run in them. I put up with the heels because I like the way they look. I guess the flat sole, as opposed to a heel that sticks out, makes these somewhat more stable, but even platform shoes that are the same height all the way can be tricky. What’s the advantage of a heel that doesn’t look like one? Is it the shift in posture? I do have a friend who’s under 5’ tall who wears very high stacked heels regularly, to get close to seeing others eye-to-eye, quite literally. These wouldn’t be tall enough for that.

I think they are versatile to work with a variety of pants, and have that chunky/luggy vibe that is trending now. I could see #3 in your wardrobe! Making notes as you notice your own footwear is lacking is really, really smart... I should do that more often...

I'd wear any of these in a heartbeat. Then again, my footwear preferences aren't exactly mainstream/middle-of-the-road They wouldn't be the first look I would have picked for you though - but.....switching it up once in awhile is a good thing!

I like 1 and 3, and am less a fan of 2 and 4. I think these could work for you, though. 3, especially has kind of a 2020 Charlie's Angels aesthetic.

I really like #3! The first two are alright if you like the style, I guess. Sadly #4 made me think of the special orthopaedic shoes my grandma used to wear...

Thanks all! I am not sure if I will go ahead, but interesting to see what people think.

My friends that like the hidden wedge are shorter women who like the comfort of the shoes with the wedge to make them taller/leg lenthening. I understand they are super comfortable.

One of my concerns with the hybrid sneaker shoe is that they are not repairable. Leather shoes can be reheeled, polished etc but sneakers wear out more quickly. I get my boots and winter shoes reheeled but I don't think I have ever reheeled sandals.

I think #3 would work really well with your wardrobe, Sal. I find these lug soles look better on than they do in a picture.

I think these type of shoes should be tried on... The wedge could be a bit too much if you have a small frame. Number 3 would work very well with your wardrobe!
