Men's Suit

So, my comapny has a formal event for the Management Team every year. We skipped last year's because DH didn't have a suit or even a suit jacket.

We don't really want to spend a lot for a once a year event that he doesn't really want to attend anyway. And, he is not terribly interested in a lengthy fitting process.

Any ideas on where/how to get this? Figure I should start now . . .

My DH also doesn't need to wear suits on a regular basis either, but a few years ago - we needed one, and didn't want to get something super-expensive, since it wouldn't get worn a lot. Here's the one we got:

Very nice quality for the price. Comfortable and not too much fuss 'in store' to get the right size and hemming etc.

Do you have Jos A. Bank where you are? That is where J gets a lot of his suits (including the 3 piece he wore at our wedding and some for work). They have ridiculous sales all the time. The wedding suit was like the most expensive thing in the store but they had a buy 1, get 2 free promo so we got the same suit for his brothers as well (the groomsmen).

It might be worth it for him to have a "suit capsule". that way he is ready for weddings, baptisms and other special events. Perhaps a winners or even sears might have something appropriate.

My dad got a suit at Harry Rosen - he quite likes it, and one of my friends goes there for his Hugo Boss. Mexx sometimes has nice pieces too.

DH has good luck at the Brooks Bros Factory store (at many large outlet malls) and can usually get something for around/under $300. Which could be considered both a lot for a once in a while even or a little for someting DH would have for years (DH's last/look good for several years even with daily wear)

Men's Warehouse? Actually Target has jackets sometimes. I mean you get what you pay for, but if you don't mind not being 100% sharp...

Well, I want him to look nice. He will never be "corporate" and thats fine. But the party is only for the management team, so it's all department heads and senior management.

What is DH's height, size and build, Thistle?

DH is 6'3" he has a medium build. Waist of 36" with a 34" inseam. He wears a large in Lands End tee shirts. He tends to like his clothes loose and baggy as he hates any kind of constriction.

Wherever you go, make sure that there is someone knowledgeable to help with the measuring and fitting, as well as tailoring. Poor fit really impacts how a men's suit (and a lot of other things) looks. It probably is not a bad idea to have one suit on hand just in case and good sales people can help him sort out a basic style choice with longevity.

I'm also hunting to refresh DH's circa 1990 suit. He feels it's not necessary, but for weddings and funerals it's a must. I was thinking JosA Banks, BB and Lord and Taylor. Have not started yet so I'll watch this if you have any progress.
My DH is 6'2" and mostly torso so a 38/32.

I love my BF's Canali suits - but they are not cheap. Fit is king no matter the price point, though.

I don't think you can rent a suit. A tux yes, but not a suit.

He is a bit frustrated as we live in a casual part of the country. Kahkis a dress shirt and tie will get you though weddings and baptisms. Probably even a funeral if you wore dark trousers. S he really does only need the suit for my work event, mi wish they didn't have to make it so formal. But then a lot of people's wives like to dress up. (I am one of two women invited from the company, the rest of the ladies are spouses.)

And I hate dressing up,for these. Hence, why we found a excuse to skip last year. Trying to find something warm enough for a Wisconsin Decemeber but still dressy. I did tell DH to be thankful he got to wear so many layers!

Have you thought about just a sport coat and slacks, rather than a full matching suit?

suits are a bit tricky IMO. For our wedding, my husband got fitted for a rental tux & day of he went to pick it up and it was all wrong! not even close to fit! Ended up wearing a black jacket and pants from the closet and looked great! I think men sometimes get it so easy.......but he also does not like to dress up.

Nordys and Macy are very good, and the Rack often has great deals. but I don't think they are near you.... A high end consignment shop can also be great, good prices and quality, if that is something he would consider

Since he has pretty average measurements, you might get lucky online with ebay. I know it can be risky, but if you take good measurements sometimes the deals are amazing. For a looser fit, I would avoid some of the designers that call their fits "modern" (Kenneth Cole comes to mind) as they might be to narrow for his liking
