Mayday, Mayday... Styling a Uniform!

Ladies,

I need help!! I work for an international aid agency and tomorrow my team are going to support another charitable agency and by going and packing Christmas Hampers for the disadvantaged. We are required to wear our organisation's polo shirt... yikes (this is a first for me).

Maybe I just need to get over myself but I do not like, and have NEVER worn a polo shirt in my life - this one is boxy and makes me look dumpy Of course the important thing is we are there to do something for those in need in our community... but I would like to look at least ok, and like me.

Which of these combos do you think is best?? I think I know, but would love your opinions.

And a warning...one photo contains crop pants which may offend some viewers *wink*. Angie I promise this is the only pair I own and they have not been worn for a very long time but for some reason, they are still in my wardrobe:) They are comfy?!?!?

I like 4 but without the leggings because of the lenght of your skirt!

Oh Deborah, I feel your pain! i never wear polo tops either! Yet you look great I prefer 1 and 4 - businesslike but with a vibe!

Deborah, I think #2 looks best. White jeans if you have them would look fresh and crisp with the red. Or just plain old work jeans?
Basically, it's one day out of your otherwise stylish life, it's for a good cause and people who meet you are going to remember your smile, your kindness and your generosity all of which will be evident regardless of what you're wearing

Deborah, I get it completely: I never wear polo shirts for the same reason.
I like #1 the best. First of all I really like the combo of red and grey - much more than red and black. Secondly skinny cargos add some edge to that polo shirt. And of course animal print flats take everything to the next level.
BTW, you are lucky that your company's polo shirts are in such great for you color: mine are beige and taupe...eeek!

I vote 1 or 2 - and echo Sveta - at least that polo is your color!

I was thinking the same thing! At LEAST it's red! You look great and I like the grey skinny cargos too! Did you try the red shoes with them?

BTW when Angie uses the term polo neck, this is the type of collar I always envision, but I think maybe she's talking about a turtle neck. Sometimes the different international terms for things get lost in the translation for me!

I'm voting for #2 without looking at the other posts. I like the slim dark pant. My second choice would be #1, again because of the slim pant.

I like 1, 2, or 3. Agree with Claire's idea to try the red shoes with the grey cargos. Or maybe those cute little patterned flats you bought a while ago?

I don't know if it's too late- but what about layering over for some definition? A fitted vest, sweater or jacket would help with the boxiness. What really matters is the work you are doing, but of course it would be nice to feel fab doing it.

Deborah: I like the skinnies in photo 2. Love your leo flats! What about layering another collared shirt under the polo shirt? I do this all the time when I have to wear a team logo'ed piece. Pop both colors and make sure the layered shirt is a contrasting color. White is safe, but I like the idea of cobalt or a subtle print (stripe or gingham).

First off, I totally agree with you on the polo shirts. I never wear them either!

I don't know if you are a fan of tucking, but I think it might help rein in some of the boxiness. I think the look in #4 with the skirt would be better if the shirt were tucked in. If you're not a fan of tucking, i think I'd go with one of the looks with skinny pants - I prefer #1 because I like the red/grey combo.

Oh yeah, welcome to my world - khakis and polos at my golf course job YUCK. I like #4 best. And why does anyone think ladies should wear polos? Seriously. Yuck. At least you are doing it for a good cause!!

#1 by a mile. I detest polo shirts as well - they make me feel boxy, frumpy, and neckless all at once. Same with rugby shirts. You, however, look quite adorable. I can see an episode of The Office with a polo shirt theme!

Thank you all so much for your input. It was wonderful to wake up this morning and quickly read your suggestions. It was a warm day today so any layering was out of the question. I went with the khaki cargos and I must admit I didn't feel too bad. We had a fantastic day and I am exhausted. And so nice to know that I'm not the only who faces this occasional challenge:). xxx
