Maybe there will always be a hint of retro?

Those of you who know me, know I had a strong streak of retro in my style a couple of years ago. Complete with authentic vintage pieces. I've shied away from it for a while but this outfit prompted a few retro comments http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....st-1311237.

Now I'm wondering if there will always be a hint of retro in my style, even if not deliberately chosen. But I'm also positively smitten with my new found EF comfort style.

Can I marry retro and EF into a style that is unique to me?

Of course you can add the retro touch to EF, especially with shoes, jewelry and bags. It is something that you enjoy like Angie likes a bit of 80's vibe. You don't have to add it every day.

Of course you can blend the two!! What Joy said about shoes, jewelry, and bags....but there are other ways, also. For example...a jacket with a hint of retro (e.g. the Amber Sun?) over one of your EF dresses or a pencil skirt with more fluid top.

I do understand what you are pointing, to, though. I used to wonder how I could add in avant garde to my style. It turned out (in my case) that "avant garde" wasn't exactly what I was after. What I really wanted was a simpler, more minimal and more cohesive and intentional look. (Uh..still working on that one.)

Yes absolutely!! I love that look you linked to.
I like a bit of retro (early 60s and 70s mostly) and wear this more often in summer or spring with dresses or rolled jeans or sometimes capri pants and the right hat.
What I want to be able to do but can't get right is wear a headscarf!

I'm high fiving your Retro itch, Shannon. Look at the jacket I just collected to wear with the cognac booties that are on my radar. Granted - the lines of the jacket are angular, crisp and simple. So it's a natural transition for my style preferences - so to speak. xo

In answer to the question, a firm "yes you can" from me! Doesn't have to be in there every day, and it could even be a seasonal thing (or perhaps manifest slightly differently seasonally). Blending the styles you're attracted to is what's going to make it most authentic to you It could be as simple as wearing one retro-inspired piece paired with the new drapier items, or donning retro accessories with all EF inspired clothing. Honestly, just the touches of your bold red lipstick and retro-inspired specs will always add a little retro flair.

I notice my retro love has changed a bit though - it used to be more "in your face" like my red and white polka dot silky jacket. Now I want it to be a bit more subtle.

Have you heard of lagenlook? It doesn't have the modern element that you like, but it's got lots of draping & retro, so you might be inspired by bits & pieces rather than recreate a whole outfit. Here's an example. On the other hand, it might be more vintage than retro, so not the era that you enjoy referencing. So feel free to ignore it, just thought I'd throw it out there.

Heck - I wear a lot of "comfy chic" clothing and sometimes the 50's bombshell side of me comes out so yes! It's possible!

I think of EF pieces as super blank canvases for whatever you want to showcase. I say go for it Shannon! Will we get to see your fab vintage handbags and Bakelite bangles again?
