May Shopping Challenge - YouLookFab Forum

This challenge has been really keeping my shopping under control. My challenge was to limit my purchases to three per month for 2019. It's been hard but I truly think I'm making better choices by having a set number limit.I'm probably missing out on some great sales but I'm also being more selective than I have been in the past. I'm saving my three June items for the end of the month when we will be visiting San Francisco. It will be fun to shop in city B&M stores rather than online or in small local shops. I've added my purchases to finds below. I see a lot of blue and black so I guess it's time to add some color to my life.

Good choices, Bonnie! Did you pick a colour of the year when Angie posted that question? Is that a colour you would add to your closet? Millineal pink or Dusty rose could be a good colour for you.

I think we have similar wardrobe core colours - blue, black, white. Red is my 'happy' colour and I am always on the lookout for good items in that colour. I'm committing to building an olive capsule over 2019.

RUNCARLA: Thank you. Blue is my color of the year but when I look at my OOTD photos for 2019, I see at lot of darkness. DH doesn't really care for pink so I've stayed away for it but I have some red coats (3) and scarves that I love to wear in cold weather so I may add more red to my wardrobe, something like your red hat or red tote. I really drawn to the mustardy yellow color of the Boden cardigan shown below and will look for it this summer. I have a few olive items and olive sneakers are on my wish list for fall.

SUNTIGER: I had to wait for June to order them because I'd already bought my three items. This challenge is hard. Maybe the pink sneakers will appeal to DH.

I crossed olive sneaks off my list yesterday - Joesef Seibel - Caren. The colour is called ‘mint’ but they are a perfect colour match to my olive Dockers chinos!

Thank you for sharing your beauties. I admire your will power. I think it is very wise to carefully consider what you add to your closet. Limiting items is a very good way to do that. The pieces you have chosen are very versatile. I’ll be interested to see what you decide to add for color. I’m thinking a turquoise or periwinkle would look good on you.

RACHLOU; Thanks. No colored pants for me but anywhere else like tops, toppers, shoes and pants. I could start a color capsule if I could figure out a summer/fall color.

MAINELADY: Thank you. Showing my progress has been a motivator for me to stick to my goal. Choosing another color has been on my mind lately. I like red for holidays, olive for fall, and dh is not a fan of pink. Turquoise and periwinkle are great summer colors. I'll have a look and see what is available. After four years of sticking to my palette, I'm ready for a change.

It looks like you added some really fantastic pieces, even if you went over your number. Even if you're seeing a lot of dark, it doesn't look like you duplicated - so you will be able to mix and match with ease, especially when you pick a color or two to add to it!

nemosmom: Ease of mixing and matching is the beauty of a limited color palette. I've been trying to cover the essentials in black, blue, and white so far but my next purchases should give me a chance to work with some color. Yay!

Angie: I was in LA today and saw some fine outfits. I really liked a pink and white flowered kimono worn with a pink tee and black crops and another outfit with gold sneaker slides and black crops. The young lady sitting next to me wore a beautiful black moto with sparkly black flowy pants and black Docs.

Mirjana: Thank you. I live in a small town so it will be fun to shop in a city for a change.

Cardiff girl: I love rose and am thinking maybe it's just blush and pale pink he doesn't favor. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

Bonnie, your collection of purchases is looking great! I love seeing them all together--really gives a sense of your style and color palette. Some punches of mustard yellow would go great with the things you've bought so far this year...are you comfortable in bright colors?

I have always loved a challenge. It is rare that I do not learn something from them ... even if I am learning that something from someone else's experience.

Your challenge of limiting your purchases to three a month is great. It certainly acts to keep your shopping under control. Boundaries always seem to force us to think things through to a greater degree. Our choices are better thought out and benefit us more in the long run. I doubt very much that you are missing out on any sale items. It is not really a "sale" unless you needed it in the first place. Otherwise you are just spending money to add to your wardrobe.

I think you are doing great. Congratulations.

Jenn: Thanks for the support for the mustard. I currently only have bright colors in red coats so this will be another challenge to find a bright I look good in.

Two denim jackets! Smart woman. I am a big fan of denim. I tried on the BR cropped jacket in Montreal. My size was gone.
Your wardrobe is very cohesive. The pieces all work well together. Have fun shopping in San Francisco. Such a great city.

Style Fan: Thank you. I'm surprised at how well denim jackets are working for me this time of year in my new climate. Helps keep me warm until the fog burns off. We will be camping in a town about a half hour north of SF but have two operas and three symphony concerts scheduled. We'll go in for the art museums, too. Lots of opportunities to dress up whilst camping.

Bonnie, LA is a fun place with fun style. I love going to LA.
