Patience

I know there are several forum members who are currently pregnant. Since Angie does not write a maternity blog (hint hint) I thought it would be nice to start a series of threads concerned with maternity fashion-- reviews of particular items, general styles that work for you, how to buy x y z, etc. I have a few ideas mulling over in my brain that I hope to post soon, but I also wanted to invite anyone else to join in. I'm not interested in starting my own maternity blog so I'm just going to put my thoughts here as a resource for other pregnant women now and in the future.

Patience, it's a great idea. I started reading Angie's blog while I was pregnant with my 2nd and was disappointed that there was only one post in maternity section.
There are a few things I wish I had known when I first got pregnant. One is that you can't buy things in advance because your body changes too much. Two - what style of pants works best (my personal favorite was JW although PPL on them was borderline). Maybe there could be a YLF practical guide, I certainly wish I had one. I could have planned my purchases better and focused on accessories. I didn't spend that much, but there were still a few orphans and few not-so-fab pieces. Of course the selection keeps getting better and better - even during my 2nd pregnancy there were a lot more options available, so my info is probably not up-to-date, but I'll see if I can put something together.

Thanks, Marianne. I'm looking forward to what you have to say, as you've brought up too good points already.

A couple of things I forgot to say.
1. I do want to confirm there's general interest in this before I start. I'm sure anyone else who wants to contribute feels the same way, although if we get enough contributors, I suppose this is a moot point.
2. Along with this, I think it's a good idea to start including "maternity" in what I wore post titles for those of us who are clearly pregnant. That way it will be easier to search for outfit inspirations.

Go for it, Patience. It's a great topic. Post-partum clothing is also important so I hope you guys will cover that in your comments. My OB-GYN tells me it takes most women a year to lose the weight. So you need transitional clothing for a long time, until you get your body (sort-of) back. And then you get pregnant again and the cycle starts over

I would love to see this Patience! I'd love to see something about dressing your body type during pregnancy and also how to cope with the different stages of pregnancy.

I'm at a really difficult stage right now because I'm not telling people at work that I'm pregnant, but I'm showing (though not an obvious bump exactly). I'm too big to fit comfortably in my regular clothes, but I'm too small still for maternity clothes to fit properly. Bella Bands, unfortunately, aren't that comfortable for me right now, but I think that's because of morning sickness and anything near my belly makes me feel worse somehow. The first trimester seems particularly difficult for clothing to me.

Patience just wanted to add my "interest". Great idea! I read YLF (no forum then) when pregnant and was a little disappointed that there wasn't much maternity coverage. I agree with Laura about postpartum. I was in that zone last year when I finally found the courage to post to the forum. At that point there wasn't much online info about postpartum fashion.

My sister just found out that she's pregnant with twins ... so I'm assuming she'll show earlier and gain more weight than with one baby. So I'll stay tuned for ideas for her! She & I are so alike in our clothing choices (and careers), that we'll often show up places wearing almost identical outfits, and will even coincidentally purchase the same pieces at the same store in different cities. Super idea!

This is a wonderful idea,Patience.I have been searching for Angie's posts on maternity and didn't find much information.ylf has taught me how to wear skirts and now that I am nine weeks along,I am having trouble fitting into my regular skirts.The baby bump is not visible but I need something loose on the tummy. I have been looking for regular jersey skirts with elastic(ruched at the ends) panel and haven't found any.I checked the Gap Maternity store also and they didnt have a single skirt even though its still summer here.I have two pairs of maternity jeans from my last pregnancy but I would rather wear skirts now and then switch to jeans as the bump starts showing.
