I'm so sorry to hear about that. I know it's a drag to have your bag stolen (yes it's happened to me), but luckily into day's techo savvy world, there is always a way to get to communicate and get home sooner than later. Wish you lots of luck and safe travels back home.

Sorry. I hope you can get sorted soon.

Oh my lord I am flashing back to my int'l travel days and I started hyperventilating remembering all the times I nearly lost something so important, like you did. All my empathy and best wishes!!!

Hooray! The money has arrived!

Ouzo and shopping, anyone?

Apart from necessary things like food, I'm wondering how much Diana wants to stimulate the Greek economy at this point

So glad the money arrived, half the problem solved, hoping Wednesday comes through with no mishaps!

Yikes Diana - I sure hope you're on your way back on Wednesday. I can't imagine what it must be like to be in this situation....

Glad to read you finally got some money to tide you over until you can get home.

I would have freaked. You seem remarkably calm and focused - you've managed to make the best of a bad situation. I would have had a total meltdown, I'm sure of it.

Best wishes for a safe trip home.

So sorry you've had all that stress! I'm proud of you for handling it. I hope you get your passport without any further frustrations. Hang in there!

Oh my! How awful.... I am glad you gotten things managed and at your resourcefulness in a terribly stressful situation. Safe travels tomorrow.

Yikes, how awful! Diana, I'm glad you were able to get some cash and I hope that everything else is getting sorted out so you can get back home tomorrow. I can only imagine how upsetting this would be! I love travel, but I get stressed about the possibility of losing or forgetting things, so I could practically feel your fear and frustration just reading about the ordeal.

I've never even though of making a copy of my passport to keep separate from my actual one when I travel, but I'm going to start doing that now. I recently got my Global Entry pass, which I suppose would help, but I think having that copy with you was very smart.

I have an emergency passport! Hooray!

Now I just have to make that 1h20' connection in CDG tomorrow that involves going thru customs. Wish me luck.

Hi Dianna,

Yay, glad it all worked out for you in the end. My worst travelling experience was ending up in A&E, with my husband, in provincial Spain on New Years Day.

With regards to the connection at CDG, is it a connecting flight (with the same airline or code-share?) if yes, then make sure you mention this to ground staff in Athens and also to staff on the plane. They can radio through to make sure that the ground crew on the other plane know that you are coming.

Also, Greece and France are both part of Schengen, so you may have to clear security again, but not any boarder control.

Good Luck!

It is a connecting flight, and it's on Airfrance (although I had to book through delta because of reimbursement restrictions) so I think they'll know about the connection time. I have to go through border/passport control there (and not Athens) because that is where I exit Schengen. It should not be a problem except that instead of an entry stamp, I have an affidavit from the US consulate saying the original passport (with the entry stamp) was stolen. Hopefully the line is not long.

Ah, I'm sure it will be fine. I am just a worrier. (And today's ATH-CDG flight arrived late which makes me worry more.)

Looking up, this journey to remember (don't you wish you didn't have to?).

Still keeping fingers crossed...

I am sure that you will be fine. The fact that it is a connecting flight will mean that you will probably not be the only person connecting from your flight.

I am sure that the passport control will go smoothly.

Thinking of you.
You'll be fine.

Oh my what a nightmare. I'm glad it's almost over and you are getting nearer to home. I have never been through such a depressing and confusing hassle. I have walked away from my computer bag for several minutes while in an airport and I was amazed that it was still there when I realized it and went back to get it. That scared me. I don't know if I have what it takes for international travel. You are very strong.

Looking forward to hearing when your journey is over and you are home.

I imagine you can't get home fast enough! So glad the temp passport came through!

Oh dear god! What an ordeal! Thank god everything has come through! Hope you are home soon. Wishing you all the luck and loads of hugs!

Poor you Diana, my thoughts and wishes for a speedy trip home.

I wouldn't worry about customs, the temp will work beautifully.

Update: I AM HOME!!!!! (And so glad to be there). Although my suitcase is not... but I know where it is and it is getting delivered sometime today. (The connection in Paris was very tight - the people all made it but none of the luggage from the Athens flight got on the plane).

Thanks everyone for all your support. It really means a lot to me.

On the up side, now I know hopefully way more than I'll ever need about what to do when you lose your passport, money, and ID in a foreign country.

Yip yåp!!!! Diana made it home Safe and sound

I'm so glad you've made it home unscathed.

We have friends who are experienced world travelers. Last year they vacationed in Greece. Upon arrival in Athens, the man had his wallet stolen on the subway with money, ID & credit cards. They eventually made it to their island destinations & through the rest of their trip. A couple of months after arriving home, they rec'd a package from the U.S. embassy with the wallet & ID, but no money. That was quite a surprise! So who knows, you're story might not be completely over...:)

Hooray! Welcome home!!

Yay! I was wondering if you made it home. So glad to have you back

Whew! Glad you're home - I'm sure you husband is relieved.

I'm so pleased you are home safe. DH is too - he has been following the saga as well, which is kind of sweet, don't you think?

It's so good to hear you made it back home. What an experience, eh?

Welcome home!!!
