Long topper jacket - how to wear?

I almost bought this jacket at NAS because it fit so perfectly well, but I was finding it confusing - it's not quite a long blazer, but not an outerwear jacket either. It's fairly dense material and I could wear it as a dress buttoned up. How would you style this kind of item? Would you take it off at work, or keep it on and sit in it? Would love your thoughts!

Hmm, the black I think you could wear at work, with indicators that this is not your outdoor coat (pushing up the sleeves, etc.) but the teal seems a little trickier--it has that "Spring coat" look somehow. I also think these long toppers tend to be easier for tall or Junoesque women to carry off than petites, but if the fit is wonderful, why not? You have the brio.

I have similar length jackets that I wear as long blazers over skinny pants, sheath dresses or pencil skirts. I leave them on in the office and sit in them. I'm usually cold in my office. These are close to knee length on me, as I am nowhere near model height. I love this color for you, I think it would work great with your wardrobe.

The black is not available and I'm avoiding more black. You may be right that it's the color making it more challenging though!

I bought and then returned one from Aritizia earlier this spring for this very reason. I loved it, it looked great, but I couldn't see sitting in it and turning it into a big wrinkled mess. One of those things that's better in theory than practice, maybe.

I would definitely just sit in it but Lisap brings up a good point about wrinkles. This has an incredibly high amount of elastane, still....
One thing you can do - though obviously not online - is grab a fistful of fabric and scrunch it hard and then when you let go see how much it recovers. People who sew do this all the time with fabrics on the bolt.

This is a very resilient dense knit fabric - I can't see it wrinkling but that weight also makes it feel more like a light outdoor topper. A long blazer is a HEWI for me so I'm torn!

Una, don't you have air conditioning in the office? Don't you have fall and winter and spring? I love the look of this myself. I think the color would be great with greys you wear, for example.

We sometimes have heat on in the summer! It's a perfect weight for most of the year here. Perhaps I should take it home and do a test run with my current wardrobe.

I love a long long jacket over slim pants or leggings. If the knit won't wrinkle, you might find this a versatile piece. I love the color. I would be tempted to test run and style with your current pieces.

I have a blue long blazer type jacket that I wear as a blazer...It is the exact look of the one at Nordies and I absolutely love it...I wear it with jeans, or leggings...It is long enough to cover and always looks great...You wouldn't go wrong with this length...

I was wondering about this jacket myself, since I fell so deeply in love with my long black jacket from BCBG (and have worn it a TON!). But I wondered if the combination of this cut and color looked too officey for me, even though I love the color. I feel like this is one of those pieces you have to try on with various combinations from your wardrobe to see how it actually looks styled. So if you decide to do a test run, I will be interested in seeing how it goes!

I have had a feeling that fashion is moving toward these long jackets and vests, but am also puzzled how to get the proportions right on my 5'3" body. If the fit is great, why not get it to try with your closet. The color may be tricky.

Janet, I actually thought of you! The color is much more of a saturated sea green than the picture. It would be fantastic on you but it does read office-y although hard to say without styling as you point out. Wildcard or orphan?!

Una - I am in love with this look. When long Blazers became egregiously hard to find I bought a couple of light weight toppers and I adore them. I wear them with dresses, leggings and tunics, skinny pants, mini dress and leggings and skirted leggings. I wear them as a blazer and don't typically take the jacket off. In winter you need to make sure you have coats with generous sleeves. That's on my list. If you need inspiration you can pm me. But huge thumbs up from me!

Ah Gryffin and Crutcher - my two long blazer experts who sadly don't post WIW pics! :p. I trust your judgment on this style completely. So you think this style reads more indoor/blazer than outdoor/jacket?

This only works as summer, late spring or very early fall "coat". So it's blazer to me. I also checked the link. It also is lined with bracelet sleeves which I feel is THE most perfect combo. Una if this was gray or b/w it would be mine. If you need photos for inspiration I can send them to you. But this should be a fab piece if you like the concept.

I love this looks think you will wear it well. It's a gorgeous color and will look great with black skinnies and a comfy top.

I would leave the blazer on indoors. The fitted look makes it very chic and stylish.

I hope you get it and try it. It caught my eye, too, and I"d love to try it. However, it's more a case of "imaginary living" for me. I don't really have a life suited to the style. However, I can think of lots of ways to wear it....Maneera's pins are great too.

I'd push up the sleeves at work. This looks a good coat for those sunny but breezy days.

I own a couple of toppers of this length and I wish I had more. Yes, I wear it indoors. I realized that the silhouette is already comfortable and familiar to me because of wearing a white coat at work.

It works as in the above examples with skinny pants, but it also looks good over a sheath or sack dress of a similar length (a bit shorter or longer). But currently I am particularly loving how it looks over flared pants. (This might or might not be a flashback to the knee length vest and wide leg pants I induced my mother to sew for me in high school in the 70s. If not for the fact that it was brown and my body is now 4 pregnancies larger, I would be mourning it still.)

Una, I love the jacket!! I bought one recently that is very similar but in black.I I wear mine indoors and mine is a lighter fabric, more like a crepe:) So far I have worn mine over skinny pants. In this cooler weather we are having it's fine for the office so I just pop a coat on over it for the commute. But it will be perfect sans coat in Spring/Summer. I tend to push the sleeves up in the office too. I love it!! It was also a HEWI for me and while I haven't worn it a lot yet, I know that I will. I actually have cropped black pants in the same fabric (same designer) so it will make a nice suit I hope for Spring:) I encourage you to try it.

Love the jacket. Big plus if it is "soft" enough not to wrinkle up. I just found an ink one this length on sale and like it as a light warm spring/fall topper and air conditioning piece. I don't do the office thing these days, so no help there, yet I do sit in it, wear it to dinner etc. and am very happy with it. I have a highly structured, simple long vest in black also and I love what this silhouette adds to my wardrobe. A bit of elegance and a current sensibility, perhaps. If the fabric and proportions work, I'm glad you are trying it.

Just chiming back in, I hope you decided to give this one a chance...You won't be sorry..I don't believe...Considering my blazer/jacket, I wouldn't wear it as a top coat like if it is really cool out because it is just not heavy enough...The material is more blazer material...than coat..if that makes sense...
This is one of those pieces that I feel smashing in...Yes, Ms. Crutcher, it makes my heart sing...smile..

I had that jacket in my cart and had the same hesitation, plus the concern of the length on 5'1" me. Hearing that it is a knit makes it more appealing if it can be worn as an inside jacket as I've been wanting to add more toppers. Now I am tempted again but I've already ordered a bunch of stuff.
