Knit suits are great - very versatile and practical. A knit jacket is my cardigan btw.
As for this suit - I like the style and the length of the jacket, the colors and the fact that it is machine washable. The old suit, however, looks perfect in the photo and I am not sure if this one will measure up. That said, it is quite possible that the photos do not do it justice due to the lighting. Also, some garments simply do not photograph as well as others. I would say wait for the smaller jacket and trust your instinct and your sense of style - you have a great eye and you know what works for you.
I like the idea of the detachable dickey btw - fun option.

I like it, Suz. I think the dickey looks fine for casual layering “look” , but agree that it would be more useful if the jacket also can layer over an actual hoodie, likely a thin one, or some similar layer, as a great travel capsule item- airplanes, fickle weather forecasts- can use each alone or together for more or less casual looks.

I’m intrigued by the brown and blue check version , as such a check or tweed is on my wishlist, and a HEWI since most such color combinations have more camel or cinnamon browns. I still have a VC knit blazer in black with different gray fleck, so I want to keep using tgst for black & gray and berry colors.
I tried on something at Evereve awhile back in great blue and brown check colors, but did not like the fabric, and it was a bit longer and boxier, which on me with other casual items like jeans or sneakers, looks too masculine and not sharp. I prefer the gray color for a dickey as more brightening, but then told myself ( enabling self) that if the jacket by itself works , that would be more important.
So, thanks for the link, and we’ll see.

Okay, it's not a replacement, per se, but I like it! If you get the fit you want with the sized-down blazer, I can see this being a suit for your more casual life's needs. Having the matching hoodie-dickey at hand makes it easier to put together the super-casual look without stressing over whether you have just the right hoodie to layer underneath. Also easier to pack/wear for trips.
You may still want to search for a wool tartan suit, for occasions where you want to dress up more. Is that defeating the purpose of this purchase?
p.s. I empathize with the lack of good lighting for photos. I'm always at a loss when photographing dark outfits, and trying to lighten them up all the way with editing.

Personally I LOVE the hoodie insert for my VB blazer — it adds a layer without the bulk and excess warmth of an actual real layer! I wonder if you might like this one with a lighter top underneath and casual jeans. The size down may help too. I’d play around with it. I love how it can casualize a blazer.

Nice find! I'm exploring Liverpool items as part of my quest for Stealth Gear, so it's nice to see the items on others and hear they tend to wash well.

I too love the functionality of a knit jacket, and agree that a size down will probably work better. I find that I tend to size down in knit jackets to sharpen the shape a bit. I love this on you, and think it sounds like a nice adaptation of an item you loved for your old life, reimagined for your more casual current circumstances.

You could also potentially still look into altering these pieces a bit to tweak the fit, if that's what would push this over the edge to FAB for you. Would probably still be cheaper than a full Veronica Beard knit suit!

Fabulous . I prefer it without the grey Dickie - just not the right colour for this suit (she says like she’s the designer ) . Smaller fit looks great too . I had replied the other day but obviously didn’t hit submit - shrugs -

Ellemnop -- this suit is excellent stealth gear, I'd say. It could definitely work for that purpose!

Lisa (and others who commented on the grey) I suspect it's the poor lighting here that contributes to this impression because I get what you are saying from the photos. The light grey actually looks nice in person (at least I think so!) both with the plaid and on me, personally -- but it isn't showing well. Anyway, the suit has a very light grey stripe in it that almost veers lilac in some lights and I think could look fantastic with a lilac top (not that I have one, LOL.) But you get the idea a bit from the way it looks with the plum/ burgundy -- there's something compatible with that tone in the thing, even though there is no pink stripe, per se.

KILLER

Now it's perfect!

With YOUR hoodie, the stripes, and the new white boots = AWESOME.

I think you’ve got yourself a winner here!! Looks so adorable with those booties too.

I really like it! I think the size down seals the deal.

FWIW, I don't have a problem at all with the grey hoodie insert. I quite like it, as it picks up the lighter tones, and it also adds a little extra casual integrity if you're after that. These days I'm all about adding that "chill" element that dresses outfits down a little bit, but that's also because of an increasingly casual lifestyle.

It looks fab! Call me crazy but I actually like the lighter dickie with the white lug-sole boots, for reasons that I cannot explain. The Semiotics of the Dickie, lol. I really love it paired with your deep berry hoodie.

Seems like a keeper to me! A knit jacket is so perfect for you!

Looks fab! I like your own hoodie with it.

Thumbs up!

I ordered the suit and it just arrived. Quick try on results: I think the jacket is a keeper, however the pants are WAY too big in my usual size 8. I’ve ordered a 6. Absolutely love the colour/plaid and the feel of the fabric. It looks great with my navy full leg crops and navy joggers.

Will do a try-on when I’ve got some good natural light. It’s dark now at 5 o’clock

Love the smaller size! Winner winner!

Thanks, all! Yes, I'm keeping it -- feeling quite happy with this purchase and thrilled I may be a suit twin with Carla!

Carla, you absolutely need to size down in the pants. You might even need 2 sizes smaller -- no joke. I took one size smaller but I have proportionately larger thighs and so it would be rare indeed for me to size down two sizes.

I can't wait to see yours! Also excited to know it works well with your joggers. I might get a pair of those myself, so...

The fabric has a really nice feel and drape, doesn't it? It's really good for the price, I think.

@ Suz - the fabric is very nice. I’ve been struggling with a travel capsule for 2 weeks in the UK in May, and as soon as I had this suit laid out on the bed, everything came together - tops, alternate bottom, the whole she-bang! Just have to get the pants sorted. I have both size 6 and 4 on the way!

I wish they had a matching full length wide leg or long leg flare.

YAY, Suz!

Carla! Sorry, I could have told you to size down - glad the smaller sizes are on the way.

Wow, that's terrific! I am convinced the suit looks great with lilac which could be fantastic in May. I can't wait to see your capsule!

@ Angie - it’s very hard to order a 4 or a 6 when all your bottoms say size 8!

Yes, I told her to size down but she did not believe me.

To be fair, I probably would have ordered my regular size bottoms too, but they weren't in stock so I took a chance with the size down (after reading what Angie said in her discussion of the pants.)

Glad you're keeping the smaller size. Looks great! Can you wear a medium weight sweater underneath?

I agree, the smaller size looks much more “ you”, casual but chic due to more precise fit.
Man, I ordered a small in the brown/ blue to have that type of color way for jeans and brown boots and cool browns, but Ooh, lilac-veering is right up my alley. I think I need a larger size than you - but now not sure.

@ Suz and Angie - LOL! I read about sizing down after I placed my order, but I probably wouldn’t have ‘listened’ to your advice anyway! Shockingly rag-mannered of me to admit

It bears repeating, the plaid is beautiful IRL…

Wow; what a difference when you style it with your coloured sweater under! Looks fantastic like that.
Of course Angie turns out to be correct regarding the size ;).
It just goes to show sizing and styling is EVERYTHING!
Enjoy your new suit Suz!

Yes - this is the one!

The new size is perfect. Makes quite a difference to my eye.

And your wondering if you should keep the white boots? Clearly you should!

(and i still love the suit, and think that either size in the jacket works so go with the one that you feel more comfortable in)

Well, Carla and Suz, you cracked me up this morning. Thank you

Every client so far has sized down in Liverpool. One size usually. Hope they work out!
