Linen tee shirts

I was shopping yesterday. My goal was to find linen tee shirts in colors I can wear AND that were not sheer. No luck. Every single tee shirt I picked up (across a number of merchandizers) was way too sheer. I gave up and came home tired and empty handed.

When I eventually find my tee shirt, and I will, I will stock up. It may not be linen though.

Angie picked this T in her "Black, White, and Floral" blog posting a few weeks back. I bought both the black with white splatters and white with black splatters. I was only going to keep one, but when the price dipped to below $20, I couldn't resist keeping both. I wear a charcoal bra under the black one, and a nude bra under the white one, and I find both Ts more opaque than slubbed cotton. These are my very first linen Ts, and I find them so much nicer and more comfortable than cotton ones. I bought my normal Misses size which is XS and it fits more or less like the black one on the model.

What color are you looking for? I have found some nice non sheer linen tee's but they are blue. It think it may depend on the color you want. The lighter the color, the more likely you will need a layer underneath.

I have some opaque colors from the Loft last year...I think they were added later in the season. May or June, maybe?

I'm a fan of linen ts and tanks, and can I say that they actually don't look all that sheer on? I'm the first one to balk at sheerness, but I found that white was not a problem with a smooth nude bra, and same with black. They are intended to be worn quite loose, so it might be worth really trying one on and seeing how it looks in daylight. Now maybe you're not intended on wearing it as a layering piece, and if you aren't, then that might be a different story.

I have a few linen and linen-blend tees from JCrew, but they do tend to run on the sheer side. Haven't looked at any in person this year so I can't recommend anything specific, but the two I have from previous years I really like. #1 is one I got last year, holding up well. #2 is one I'm looking at for this year but haven't seen in person yet. And #3 is a cotton/poly blend tee that feels a surprising amount like linen, and a good non-sheer weight. I am recalling that Madewell had some good linen tees last spring, not sure about this year.

Have you tried Madewell? They look fairly opaque to me, although it does depend on the color obviously.

Have you tried Eileen Fisher? Also Ann Taylor. I have one of each (EF is white & asymmetrical; AT is grey with elbow sleeves) and neither is sheer. I also tried on some linen tees recently at BR which weren't that sheer, but I didn't like the fit.

I will say that while linen tees are quite comfy and cool, there's something about the fabric that doesn't work for me. Within an hour or two of wearing, I start to feel overly schlumpy. Is this just me?

This BR linen tee is AMAZING. I'm totally kicking myself for not getting it in navy, cobalt and red - all sold out now. I wore it for the first time while away the last couple of weeks. I will try the white as well now.

Ahh! I spotted the BR ones recently. May have to head back for one or two. The three I got around dec from BR are going strong and workhorses for me so I know these would be good additions. Hope you find what you're looking for.

I bought several of the BR linen tees that Elizabeth linked to. The light coloured ones are a bit too sheer for my liking but the darker colours are fantastic. I picked up a couple colours that were only in store.

I just got a couple of the AT linen tees, and I don't think they're too sheer. They also have them in some darker colors, which helps.

I thought the Zara one below looked promising (available in 7 colours), and Massimo Dutti has a few too (I like that one of them has a boatneck neckline, you don't see that all that often in a linen T-shirt).

BR linen tees are definitely loose and fluid in fit. I got XS, which is ok, but I think if XXS had been available, it would still have been fluid but with less extra room for the neck to slide off to the side. If you're between two sizes, I'd suggest ordering the smaller if you can.

Thanks for asking about linen tees. I ordered the BR to try and am tempted to try the Madewell style as well. I can't decide which style would be the most versatile--tees are such a summer workhorse for me that I probably could never have too many!
