Last suggestion before the end of NAS....

I would feel remiss if I did not make one more suggestion before the end of NAS. EF has THE best washable silk tops on the planet. Flattering, soft and luscious on the skin, cool in summer - warm under layer in winter, wears like iron. I bought the black silk short sleeve tee. I already own the long sleeve, tank, camisole and camisole tunic (I wear it as a slip or underlayer all seasons. It's a great price for a fantastic basic that can be worn alone and layered. EF washable silk I also wear as the nicest long underwear under cashmere sweaters all winter. I wish she'd make leggings for warmth.... But if you have a smidge of extra cash for a great basic, highly recommended!!

Thank you, Gryffin! That is a great recommendation. EF quality is really lovely. I'm quickly becoming a convert to EF footwear, that is for sure! I have more trouble with the fit of many of the garments (though not all -- it's always worth trying since some work extremely well) and I agree with you that few things are nicer than a silk knit against the skin.

Thank you for this. I’ll keep it in mind when I need to replace my basics. I love silk underpins! I wear silk long underwear, tops and bottoms, in winter and it’s the best.

Good recommendation. They do make some really quality things. I ended up getting the blue color block sweater since I culled some sweaters from my wardrobe after last winter, and I really didn't have much in blue in that category.

EF fit is often wrong for me -- too roomy through the body unless I'm going for an oversize fit -- but I have never tried these basic tees. I wish EF would do some of those basic cuts in V necks or a narrow scoop neck.

Suz - the silk knits run small for EF. I needed to size up to a small for the ls tee and cami. The XS in the tee is nicely roomy but too tight on tees looks dated to me. I've been looking for a silk tee, I wanted something more interesting but also no go. This has great sleeves, length not too long or short and crew not to high. Very pleased at the bargain EF price.

Colette - often you can find her basics on sale and at that price a bargain because they last forever. Dressier and more substantial than the silk long underwear I tried. I like that I can wear it alone or layered.

Janet - agreed much of her apparel is too roomy for me. But the silk drapes like a dream. Did you see her silk or jersey elbow sleeve tunic. I wear it belted (low hip belt) and it's a wardrobe workhorse. In fact, I wear many of her items belted that's how I make them work, often slightly blouson over the belt.

Ah, the belting makes sense. I don't look good in belted styles (the peril of having a short torso and having my narrowest point right under the bust, and I kind of widen from there, ugh), but I see how that would work really well for you. Clever!

Gryffin, I agree with everything you said about these EF tops. I also have several and agree they are great year round. I wash mine and hang to dry. They are also wonderful travel layering pieces. I have both XS and small plus some petite, but PP is too small. Right now our Nordstrom Rack has several in soft white silk that I am stalking. Have you tried the EF silk slim pants? They may work as a layer under winter trousers.

Janet I do NOT belt this at the waist. I have an adjustable belt with a silver clasp that hangs down creating a vee. It elongates my torso. Although I measure as average torso, I feel short waisted. If the belt color matches the tunic (black of course) it blends in because all you see if the vee and low buckle. It makes me look like I have a small waist even though I'm a rectangle. If I belted at my waist I would look like a sausage even though I am slim. My rib cage base and hip distance are close, my waist although defined is just not as narrow as I'd like it. So I fake it. If this belt ever dies or gets lost I don't know what I'd do. I think I posted it on the review of leather jacket but I don't have the photo on this computer

Brilliant styling ideas and recommendations for get use out of these pieces. I so wish someone in Wpg would carry EF, but at regular price in Cdn dollars they are out of reach and largely unsaleable in this city. I love the clothing pieces I do have and hope to add more some day. Now you've made me want to add the elbow sleeve tunic and a belt like describe asap.

Angie - we know!!! You always know the best stuff!! Just putting another vote in for a great basic, especially because it's not as much fun buying them initially, until you realized how much they make getting dressed easier!!

Joy- I do the same! Quick dip in woolite and drip dry and voila!! They are the best for travel and layering as no weight! Thanks for the suggestion. I don't wear pants often - leggings, skirted leggings, dresses, so I have not tried her silk pants. But I will watch out for them!!

Jenn - that's what I did. Build slowly when I could. But I never realized how good clothing could feel, until I tried EF silk!

Lisa - do you have JJill in Canada? She does less expensive EF like pieces. I bet you could pick up similar for a song, lots of sales, to play with styling. I think this look could work for your new job. But it would let you dip your toe in the water and see if you liked the concept without the egregious outlay of cash!

Thanks for this, gryffin. I think I might see if I can try one on at regular price, then stalk them next NAS. I'm not a huge fan of crew necks, so am reluctant to spend that much on a whim, and discover the neck is too high for me. But I LOVE the sound of them.

Bj - sorry. I know how that feels!! It’s just a good price for a very well made basic. Hope you love it!!
Elizabeth - I don’t think you need to wait that long. They sale not infrequently. The tank and cami are scoop necks. The elbow sleeve tunic is the best scoop neck tunic ever. I do not like too high crew necks. This hits me below my sternal notch following the line of my clavicles. This is the sweet spot for me on crews. I don’t mind them slightly lower. I don’t like them higher. Hope that helps.

Lisa - I'm sure other brands must have, although they are not that common. If I see anything I will let you know.
Elizabeth - I usually take an regular XS in EF. The tanks/cami run on the small size. The small is generous on me but I wanted a more slouchy fit. The XS would be fitted.

I will watch EF for camisoles and tunics on sale. Missed this one for NAS this year, sadly, but it looks like they come on sale during the year. I would love one of her camisoles. thanks for all your item information! esp drawn to your recommendation for this item as a workhorse basic and beautiful too.

I saw your post and immediately went to order me a couple of tee shirts.

I waffled over the colors. I was looking for something ivory or white. Since the only two colors on sale were blue and burgundy, I opted not to buy (I was also NAS-weary).

I'll keep these items on my "watch list" and be on the alert for future sales.

Elizabeth - they frequently go on sale, in all their iterations, and different colors. So if you keep a watch I'm sure you will find them at a good price. I hope you enjoy them. I'm wearing my tee shirt today! It feels soooo good!
CJ - I'm sure they will pop up at a good price. Watch the ivory, I found it sheer, you would want a cami underneath IMHO. The black is opaque. I'm waiting for them to come back in a gray....

I have been thinking of looking at EF pieces more after having a few sweater/jackets in the past that were wonderful, so thanks for the recommendations. I have no idea how common EF outlet stores are but there is one fairly close to one of my two regular mall and the discounts are pretty good. I’ve been in a few times and it plan to check in there again soon.

Chris - that's really good to know. I do all my shopping online (I'd be naked otherwise!!). I didn't realized there was anything other than the "regular" stores all all the department stores where the line is sold. Good point to check that out.

I know what you mean about the “right” crew neck. I have the same requirements as you. The little bit of looseness around the neck makes a big difference.
