Lace-Up Boots: Finally Styled!!!

Hi Fabbers,

I bought these lace-up boots a while back because they offer great support to my bothersome feet. But I've really really been struggling to style them. Every Time I have put them on with an outfit in the past, I quickly changed them for other boots because I simply didn't like the look. At all! I'm just too used to tall boots with jeans. Yet everytime I did wear them, my feet were infinitely happier than in any other boots. So I really needed to train my eye and find a way to wear these.

Today I was determined to figure out how to wear them. I showered, and I sought the help of the one person who never ever let's me down - Diane G. Btw Diane is a rockstar and she is amazingly patient. I try clothes, I click photos and send them to her, and she immediately gives me advice on how to tweak the outfit to get what I want. She really understands my style and my aesthetic sense and never fails to nudge me in the right direction when I'm feeling frustrated that something doesn't work for my body.

Today, with her very valuable help, I have finally nailed these buggers! The first outfit made it clear I needed a more fluid, relaxed fit in sweater and also needed a longer sweater to compensate for the short length of these boots.

Here, I want to show our process. Diane kept suggesting styles & lengths and I dug into my closet. You'll see that by photo #6 I've figured it out. And #7 is my favourite - my fur boots have found a furry friend in my old and trusty black parka! It's more than 8 years old and badly abused, but I think it's the perfect match for these boots! (Far better than the shorter black jacket in #1).

Thank you Diane! You're irreplaceable and priceless I wouldn't know what to do about you! And thank you Angie - it's because of you that my eye is more trained in proportions.

I have wet floppy I combed hair and didn't even bother to moisturize my face before I started this exercise ....pls excuse my unkempt state. But my happiness factor is really high by the end!!! I think - that's what really counts, right?!

Fab boots for a cold day. They look like they would keep toes toasty warm. My favorite styling is 2 with the scarf, perfect with these boots, followed by 1.

Super cute. I like the versions where you pick up a bit of the cream up top best - like #2 with the scarf, and #3 with the stripe. But #4 and #5 are fab too. Well done. Your new furry boots are adorable - just like you.

Oh wow, Angie. That's exactly what Diane said too!!! And I really like them too. That's exactly what I'll be wearing because I agree myself. The little white on top really makes the look more 'deliberate' and cohesive.

I really like them with the scarf outfit in #2 as well. I like the jacket with the bit of fur to match the boots. Can the folded part of the boots be worn up as well? I've seen boots where they can be worn up or folded down and was wondering if your's were like that or only worked down.

Thanks Sara. Yes, the boots can be folded up so the fur tucks in and the whole look is just black. I usually wear the boots folded up - easier to wear with anything & everything

I like 1 and 2 best. 2 is a nice general outfit, while 1 looks a bit like snow bunny at the lodge. Both are very nice.

Well this tells you more about me than about your sleek aesthetic, but when I squinted at your heading with bleary eyes this morning, I thought I read "lace-up boots, Firefly styled", so I immediately had to check it out.

Diane is wonderful! Your positivity trumps all the other accessories but I really like #2 too!

I'm completely "off" of my tall boots this year, and am wearing all ankle and midcalf versions. This is working out well, since the winter has, so far, been more Mumbai than Indianapolis, and I'm finding my combinations affected by the switch, too.

I actually love #1 --- the crisp energy of the argyle, and the texture of the quilted jacket. The proportions seem fine to me, although I could indeed see this combo with a sleek pair of tall riding boots. I also love #2, and suspect that you could layer the scarf in #2 over the simple stripe in #3.

And I'm glad your parka has been resurrected to see the light of day again!

Thanks Beth Ann! I'm feeling a lot better about these boots after this exercise. I think my eye needed time to adjust, plus I really needed to figure out combinations.

This is exactly why YLF is such a brilliant community - 24/7 style advice from well-dressed buddies on other continents. It's really fun to see the styling process. As an unrepentant wearer of chunky, comfortable shoes (indispensable in a rainy city paved with cobble stones) I can fully sympathise. Those boots are made for walking. Now go style them with a skirt!
