FYI fellow scientists on YLF: I am happy to report that the Merrell Petunia shoes are a cute option for a moderate heel. These shoes are closed toe, stable (wedge) and comfortable, thus satisfying all my criteria for "lab friendly". I purchased a pair and like them a lot, they look great with my smart casual pants/jeans. They seem well made, and I have been very happy with other Merrell shoes so I have high hopes for the longevity of these.
