K/R: my one Shoptoberfest purchase

Shopping for me is hard, is all I can say. Here is a sweater I found when we were at their really amazing Loehmann's. Rag and Bone. I don't have a long cardigan, and I like this; it's just something I never expected to be buying, at least ahead of other things. If it's that great (ETA and I don't look like Mr. Rogers) I'll hang onto it, then. Honest opinions? Thanks!

Oh why did you plant Mr Rogers in my head? The sweater looks great but I really can't get that idea out of my head now!

It is a beautiful piece, and it suits you really well. The only question I find here is how mush you think you will wear such a style? If enough, then by all means keep!

It's a beautiful cardigan! I think it just needs something with more contrast underneath...maybe red or teal? Maybe darker bottoms...

I'm afraid I'm a nay. I don't think it suits your emerging style and the knit, buttons and colour veer dangerously close to frumpy. I realize it could be styled more modern but I don't think it's adding anything to your mix.

I do like it. I would certainly wear it. I'm just one of those people always thinking in terms of "what would I be spending the xxx dollars on if it weren't this?" Not that I can't afford it, but that's how part of my brain thinks (and hence makes purchasing things harder...even when I find something that fits and looks ok).

With the Loehmann's discount it ended up around $130. For a sweater, it would have to be hitting it out of the park.

So now it looks like my Shoptoberfest haul may = zero.

I don't love it on you. It looks borderline frumpy and muddy-toned. It isn't a standout piece in my opinion.

I'm so glad you included the close up photo of the fabric Nancy so we could see the variety of colors. I really like the mix.

I have a love-hate relationship with cardigans so will try to be unbiased in my comments. I do think this would be extremely comfy, cozy and fab for casual wear - great to throw on with jeans kind of thing. Because of the lack of structure in a cardigan, particularly a thicker knit such as this, I do find scrunching the sleeves a bit can give it more "ooomph" and I think a brighter color underneath would be fab - say with your cobalt skinnies and a brighter top.

Is it possible to try a few pics with that sort of outfit as I'm not sure the styling here helps to sell the sweater, you know?

This is the type of sweater that beckons for warmth and comfort, yet can be challenging to style. I think though, that you could find the ways that would make it work for you.

For me, with chunky, longer cardigans that don't drape, the other wardrobe pairings need to look deliberate to avoid the potential for frump. The colors are nice and offer options for great top pairings, I would want the pants choice to offer a bit of structure and edge juxtaposed against the sweater. Fun booties or for more casual, sassy sneakers would also elevate the fun, as could a great bag. Agree that scrunching the sleeves adds a nice effect.

Love how your hair accents your gorgeous eyes and smile. Must have been a fun time!

Mochi, I love cardigans and wear them a lot when I am upset,I never seem to pull of this style though.
I think aida used to wear them well.
Can her pics be of any inspiration for you?

I think this cardigan could work quite well with tailored trousers and a crisp shirt. To me eye all the other items must be fairly well fitted (and probably tucked in) to keep it from looking frumpy. Also, a ballet flat or similar classic shoe would help.

I think I have to say nay to this one. It just doesn't feel like it fits the mood I thought you were heading towards in your fashion.

Where was I when you found this sweater? I think we are missing a lot of the details that you can see IRL. Rag and Bone's things are gorgeous, and I like how the contrasting colors keep this from looking like "oatmeal". I love the texture next to your complexion. The buttons are beautiful, and I even like cardigans. I think it's all in the styling, which you can certainly handle. Also, I share your pain of having a hard time shopping (for tops anyway). I'm a cautious Yay. It was such a blast spending time with you this weekend, birthday twin!

I am a nay on this. I really feel that it is not as sylish as your normal selections, and it is boardering on frump teritory. I am also not in love with the color. I really think you can do much better.

I quite like it, too! I think you definitely can pull this off with some of your more men's wear inspired outfits. I agree with Claire, it must be a beautiful fabric and texture. I definitely understand why you liked it.

I'm on the fence. What is the fabric content? I have a similar knit cardigan that is open front and I find that it only gets worn with a light neutrals outfit, valued for it's contribution of texture. On the other hand it is classic enough to have a long life in the wardrobe. Unless you really love it, the cost per wear could be high.

I think a sweater like this is a comfortable classic. Personally I would not wear it with that shirt, but with a long-sleeved tee. And I would find a scarf that mirrors the colors, but a bit brighter, and wear it with that. And jeans.

I have not seen a lot of love for classic cardigans on the list, but I personally love them.

OK, I did see it in person, albeit briefly and in a somewhat exhausted state. I quite like it -- it has a nice mix of colors that can blend with a lot of different outfits. I would like to see it styled with darker tones for some contrast -- perhaps a burgundy or olive top and blue jeans, and Nancy's burgundy Pliner booties, for example.

Even I cannot live on structured jackets alone, so I thought this sweater could be a nice change of pace from those pieces, especially in cold weather in Boston, when one might crave something more cuddly. Structure can be added to the outfit via some of Nancy's fab booties/shoes, jeans, and maybe even a button-front shirt. I liked the sleeves scrunched.

Hi there, I just saw your last comment and wanted to comment on your shopping difficulties. I personally think that you already know what suits you. I think you are having difficulty shopping because you are aiming to only purchase higher end. In reality, most of us do not have the pockets for everything high end. Most of the members whose style you admire have a combination of high/low end and that overall, give you more possibilities than if you are only looking for everything expensive. Places like H&M, Zara, GAP, Banana, have great alternatives, which I know you might consider cheap, but fit the bill and look great in combination with other higher end items. That's how most of us do it. Even Angie has Zara! Pardon me for the tough love, but I'm just trying to open up some alternatives for you. As far as the sweater, it is really neat that it is Rag and Bone but knowing your other wardrobe needs, I would pass.

I want to see it styled the way you imagined yourself wearing it. That will be the information we need. It's a lovely mix of colours and a beautiful texture, but whether it's worth the $$$, we cannot say until we see the options!

As for shopping being difficult -- I cannot shop with a large group, period. It is even difficult with one other person. It's just not conducive to purchasing. But you did make a bunch of purchases in New York with Zap and me. So some is luck, some is numbers.

I'm a cardi girl myself sooooooooo, I like the colors and the knit pattern. I like cardigans because for my life they are more comfy cozy around the house. It is just a cardi though so I don't know if it's super special. I don't really know your style goals. I do think the sleeves look long on you and if pushed up they might be too bulky.

I think I should add to my previous thoughts. Nancy, if you feel like this was a purchase made for the sake of buying something, and you're now not feeling it for whatever reason, pay attention to your gut. I've done something similar, especially when shopping with others, and ended up making returns as a result. If it doesn't fill a wardrobe hole and you're not excited to wear it, then you shouldn't feel pressured to keep it.

I don't like it, Nancy - compared to what you have been wearing lately I think it is meh with the combo of color and style. Sorry... You have been setting the bar high!

TBH the more I look at it the more I like it. So if you don't keep this one, I'd look for another similar one.
