Sorry for the inundation of posts recently, this should be the last one for awhile. Two lace dresses arrived today. I definitely cannot keep both and if I keep one, it'll mean returning one or two other items that I would've considered keeping. These are gorgeous in real life and I had to retake photos and relocate settings to try to capture the intricate detailing. I'm not normally drawn to lace but am drawn to lace in beige hues, even though they can easily wash me out.

The first dress is a pinkish beige, girly, and a bit flouncy. A departure from my usual look but fun. It might be a bit too girlish, but the workmanship is stunning.

The second dress is a more neutral beige. I think the cut is more me, even though I really like the first. Like the first, the fabric is beautiful and the dress itself is quite comfortable. It could work in professional settings, religious functions, and weddings. It would probably be more flattering on me in the pinky hue, but I like how "neutral" on me this shade is.

Thoughts? Strong feelings for either? If I get either, it would be my big splurge for awhile. I've included close ups of my bare face to give you a better idea about colouring.

I really love #1 on you!! I think the pinkish tint is more flattering and details of the dress is just beautiful! Of course if you're more comfortable and will get more wear out of #2 go with that. But I had to give my "not following the crowd" opinion!

I think they both look great on you! And truthfully, I can't decide, because:

1. I loooove the different contrasts of lace, and I love the color for you a little bit more than #2. But the cut is more casual, and when I look at this dress, I see spring/summer, more than something seasonless.

2. LOVE the cut for you, and I love the lace. I think it's a flattering color for you as well, and you could wear this year-round, depending on the climate.

You mention a variety of places you could wear either dress - can you wear either dress year-round? And if not, is it worth having in your arsenal for certain times of year?

Number one looks more fun, a little flirty, more noticeable. And
can I just mention, nice biceps!!!!! The second is a little "meh" compared with the first.

But number one needs a heel to look its best! Those flats are wrong with this dress.

I think you can do better, color-wise. I would pick a darker, cooler color that plays off your beautiful eyes.

I think I'm with UmmLila on this one -- I'm not sure either color is the best for you. I do prefer the cut of #2, much more versatile and sophisticated. But I'd be very interested to see you in a darker lace -- navy, graphite, for example.

I definitely agree with you about colour, and that a deep blue, teal, purple, slate, or aqua would be look better, but I haven't liked the lace dresses or separates that I've seen in those hues--and not for a lack of trying (e.g. Tibi, Tajashi Shoji, J. Crew, etc.).The fabrics and cuts don't work for me, although I still like seeing them on others.

Looking at the spring collection, and reading up on the history of Nottingham lace, it seems to be on the way out. I don't anticipate there being much in the way of mass-produced options in the future, unfortunately, although there'll probably still be a market for bespoke couture and wedding dresses.

There is no reason to splurge on a dress that doesn't tick all the boxes for you. I still think dress #1 is the clear winner between the two. If you don't looooove either one, maybe that means you are not done searching yet.

Shape of no 2 on you but think the color is a little flat.

Reiss has got a lot of very pretty lace dresses in a range of good colors. Their sizing seems to favor hourglass shapes as opposed to e.g. rectangles, though.

I agree that the shape of #2 is great, but the color in #1 is better. I think that you are wise to hold out for the right one.
If you are interested in lace separates too, in teal, I got this teal DVF top to wear as my holiday top this season, it is lovely if I may say so myself I think it is sold out at Nordstrom but I have seen it on other sites.

UmmLila, some of the Reiss dresses are quite pretty, but I don't wear polyester unless it's for a formal event. Almost all of my tops are natural fibers and the few dresses casual dresses I own are made from silk.

Tanya, that blue is definitely stunning. I used to regularly check out DVF, but their lace dresses don't work for my body type. By the way, they had a dress in that colour and material last winter. It's really pretty, although best suited for IT types. Not sure if I'll be sitting these out, though--I'm too picky about fabrics and patterns that I may end up compromising on colour. But it's a compromise I'd willing to make.

I should add, I didn't think the first one looked too young or unflattering, just really liked the second silhouette.

I think 2 is a fantastic dress on you but I agree that you could do better-- especially since it's a big splurge-- (and even if it isn't) Ever since I've decided that if something isn't 100%, no matter how close or tempting the price is, it just can't come. I haven't regretted letting anything not perfect go. There will be more and when it's the right one, you'll know.

The lace is sublime, the blush tint to the beige is flattering, the shape of this dress puts #2 to shame..... just add heels and makeup appropriate to the situation to dress it up or reign it in. You have the figure for #1 RIGHT NOW, from my own adventures in aging, I wish I had done more #1s when I could!

They are both very pretty; I like the second one best for its more sophisticated feel. It looks like more of an investment piece to me, something you could wear for many years to come: a little beige dress that could function as a little black dress would.
