K/R: JCrew shirt and black sweater ETA-pics of smaller size

So two questions for the forum today!

I'm not sure about the blue shirt.
I got it oversized on purpose because it seems to hang better that way.

The issue is the shoulder seams. They're low, but I'm wondering if this looks intentional enough to your eye.

Also, for those of you that know my style, is this shirt in keeping with it?

I like the idea of it on its own, or with the shirt tails peeking out for a winter look (see last picture for visuals :-)).

Also, the black sweater: I didn't buy it, but like it. Would you put up with the long sleeves, or should I tack them back, or just wait for something else? I really like these wide sweaters. Not sure if I should snag this black one or keep waiting for more.

The sweater in the last picture is one I like quite a lot but I really do need some sort of shirt because it's quite cropped.

I'm going to go over budget with these purchases, but not terribly so, and I'm going to have to get thick sweaters at some point this winter, so it might as well be now.

The blue shirt looks great. It layers perfectly with the patterned sweater!

The black sweater looks cool, but I think wearing it would drive me crazy.

I agree with La Ped. The shirt looks great on you. Intentionally a bit oversized. The sweater would drive me crazy.

I agree with the previous posters that the shirt works really well. I have high tolerance for floppy sleeves so they wouldn't annoy me, and I would wear them folded back.

The shirt looks great. It looks intentional. The black sweater looks interesting, but you want to wear it somewhere, it looks like it might not fit in a coat. Would it?

Tanya--I think, like you, the floppiness is ok. It's the length that is the problem. I don't think they'd stay folded back without tacking or pinning or something like that.

Jaileen--I think the black sweater could be folded a bit, and I think it would work with my trench and puffers. But it couldn't fit into a jean jacket or leather jacket, I don't think.

I like all three. As everyone else has said, the shirt is great and it looks really good with the patterned sweater. I love the look of the black sweater. Maybe you could bring it home and try it with various coats/jackets?

Sweater is cute - can you size down? Make sure the sleeves don't drive you batty.

Not sure about the shirt--I've worn shoulder seams like that, but no idea whether it looked intentional or not. The sweater looks like somebody else would have to feed you.

I do like the color of that shirt on you. I would trust Angie's opinion on the sizing.

The blue shirt is a great color, but the top shoulder seam (connecting front and back) looks like it slides backward - it doesn't sit on top of your shoulder. I think this is part of what makes it look a bit off to my eye. Many of my shirts do this and I'm not sure what drives it.

I was a chicken and waited for Angie to respond. But I also think the shirt is too big. I do like the style on you, but would prefer smaller. The black sweater is a really fantastic style, I vote yes if you can live with the sleeve issue. I like the cropped jumper as well. I think the cropped styles are useful with high rise bottoms.

Are you ok with wearing all black near your face? (I ask because I find it depressing myself, in winter)
Is the sweater made of wool? (You would need the warmth of real wool in your climate)

Re the blue shirt : if I understand correctly, you sized up because you wanted more fluidity? In that case, you need to find a fluid shirt or blouse, because an oversized tailored shirt is too stiff to work (oh yes, I've tried I love oversized tops, but it doesn't work with tailored items, only with knits in my experience).

I like the black sweater a lot. Very edgy looking. I have come to the realization that I am useless when I look at photos to determine sizing. The blue shirt looks too big to me and sloppy. I like the vibe of it though. Skylurker has a good point about oversized tops needing to be fluid.

I like all 3 on you, they look intentional to me and that black sweater is amazing!

That black sweater is so big and floppy it would drive me nuts. I like your jeans the best! Not mad on the blue shirt either, too big. Sorry.

Angie: are you suggesting a size down to get the shoulder seams to line up in my actual shoulders?

Karen--yes, the shoulder seam pulls to the back. Less dramatically in the bigger size, though. I think it's because my shoulders are set forward. All my knits pull to the back too. There are a few things I do: 1. wear heavy structured toppers like Jean jackets, where the weight of the item causes the garment to stay put. 2. Sleeveless garments work. 3. mandarin collars, where the shirt still pulls to the back, it's just it's not the first thing you notice because the collar is flat. 4. Knitwear (again, everything still pulls to the back but it is less noticeable). 5. High quality blazers with a lot of padding/interfacing that allow my shoulders to rest in a forward position without causing the blazer to wrinkle on top.

Isabelle--I think I'm ok with black near my face. I prefer blue though. Anyway, I don't think I'll get the sweater because the sleeves would be a pain.

No, Smittie. No need for the shoulder seams to line up. It's an oversized look - which I get! Still. You are slight, and the volume on your torso is too much. Of your pics, VB wears it best - and that shirt is smaller than yours.

It IS a gorgeous colour - and worth another round of try-ons for sure. Keep us posted. (I am not pedantic about fits and lengths for nothing - *smiling*).

Thanks for the tips smittie. I haven't figured out which of my shirts are the worst offenders for the shoulder seam slippage, but have been noticing it a lot lately. I should do a try on. I'm considering a fashion tape trial if I want to look just so.

I think I would size down in both. Really cool sweater and the blue is very nice too.
