K/R Eileen Fisher sweater

My last NAS item came a few days ago. I'm not sure if I should keep, size down, or return. It is 85% tensil, 15% merino wool, is it likely to shrink a bit? Directions are hand wash.

It's so hard to see black in detail! My instinct is that this is the right size but I'm not finding it exciting or edgy enough for you.

It shouldn't shrink if you wash according to the label and don't put it in the dryer.

But I agree, it's hard to see.

It looks the right size and it looks good. I have something similar and find it very useful, but I do a lot of "decorating"...scarves and jewelry...and think of things like this as a blank canvas for that. Do you think you would like it "as is".

Alaskagirl has a good point about it being plain. But I remember a long ago blog or forum post by Angie saying we couldn't have everything be standout pieces...that a wardrobe needed some plain basics to work well. I didn't understand because I like everything to be special! But I've come around a bit because basics are very useful.

So...depends on what role you want it to take!

I think I figured out the reason for my hesitation. I wanted to be able to layer with this, but the high side of the bottom hits a little lower than it should. Eileen Fisher is kinda tricky for me. I have a couple pieces that work really well, but most don't. For the price point, it has to be a ten and would count as one of the 5 pieces. As they say, next.

I don't think it's a 10 because the hemline cuts you across the widest part of your body. An asymmetrical hem in these shapes - where the hem creates points in front - is generally more flattering.

I'm in favour of trying a different kind of asymmetrical hem. I am SO into the asymmetry and I know you would find a top like this -- the right top -- super useful.

Hmm, I vote pass, too. Wrong kind of asymmetry. I have had this issue, too, that not all asymmetrical hems are created equal!

I like it in concept but it isn't the perfect topper. I am in search of the perfect black topper along with you. It is early in the season and there is bound to be loads more coming available.

I have nothing to add, but am following along to learn. I have to agree that the asymmetry in the two tops posted by Angie might work better for you. I never knew purchasing something asymmetrical required this much thinking!

Frustrating to get ones hopes up and now go back to the hunt!

I'm on SYC for August, but I will definitely check out the two tops Angie posted in September. I like the handkerchief hem in navy and the long one in the green.

That's good insight on the asymmetrical hemlines, Angie. I felt that it would be better for Shedev with the pointy part in front, but I couldn't pinpoint why.

Late to this but you will definitely find something better. I am encouraging you on your 5 piece journey:). This one isn't good enough.

BTW, I am on track. Resisted temptation to make a random Metalicus purchase last week. My eyes are firmly on new black jeggings. An essential really but I am including them in my 5:)
