I will repeat what I have often said to my own mother: it's always totally fine to BE an old lady, but it's never time to LOOK LIKE an old lady.

Not that we should try to look like teenagers for our whole lives, that's just sad. But when you say "old lady", everyone has an idea of what that means -- and what it means is "not current."

Joy, I think d'Orsay is still a current style, yes?

I very much like the shoes on you. And while they look too big in photos, if they stay on your feet and feel okay and do not fall off while walking, then they certainly will not look odd while you are wearing them; they're not THAT big. I think the d'orsay style keeps it current, and I quite like the heel on them.

I haven't looked at the other responses. My initial reaction is that they look too big, even if they don't feel too big. I think you can do better. I would return them.

I thought I'd better update this thread to say that I returned the shoes. When I added inserts, they would not stay on my feet. If I keep thinking about them, I may order a better size at a higher price, but Angie I'd right. This style is heavy looking for my size and ankles.. Next.

Thanks for the update, Joy. I always wonder about the final decision. It is nice to have resolution. I assume you feel relieved that the decision has been made?

I am reading new thread too but here's what I think about these. I realize they're too big size-wise but they also may be too " heavy" weighted toward the heel part for your slim ankles- sometimes hard to tell unless had the right size because a giid fit can make the difference, or not. . That's more of an eyeball thing and a choice- to me not old- lady per se, but how picky do I want to be about proportions and how I want things to look and can I " afford" to be-- what's out there as choices. So, loafers, oxfords, sneaks all have different options for shape and cushioning and vamp and so forth, but can I find the perfect blend. Or not!
