K/P jackets - YouLookFab Forum

I'm going to a clothing swap tonight with some GF's. I have a couple of jackets I'm on the fence with.
The first is a Tencel lightweight tab sleeve safari style with studding. Wore it quite a bit when I first got it. Now I'm feeling like much of my other cargo stuff, and over it. I kind of think my new blue/grey anorak is taking it's place?
The second is a petite trench. I like it, and kind of feel like a spy when I wear it lol, but I wonder if it's not really fitting to my lifestyle. I rarely find myself grabbing for it. But should I give it a fair shake and keep it another season, to decide after this fall and next spring? Perhaps my FL moves interrupted the times I might use it, transitionally? Also, I wonder if the belt is just a teeny too high and I should move it if I do keep it.
I have a harder time purging jackets it seems than other items. They seem so infinitely useful, and I do wear them a lot in Tahoe. So help me to decide if I'm just holding on or if maybe I could get some use from these! thx

The trench looks great on you (although I don't really understand the button the butt...it must make sense in IRL?) I think you can safely let go of the other one now. It seems a bit "shrunken" for today's more fluid fits.

Carter, someone else mentioned that little tab and button back when I got it lol. I don't mind it. Kinda weird I guess but no biggie.
So one vote to keep the trench and toss the safari.

I agree -- keep the trench and see if you reach for it now that you're back in Tahoe. It sounds like you've moved on from the other one and have a replacement you like better.

I like the jacket in #3 but not the button placement in #5.

I am still wondering how much wear the trench will get . . . but it was fun to see my good friend snap up the safari jacket
I came home with a Lululemon running jacket! Definitely will get more wear

FWIW, I vote pass on both. Neither seem in keeping with the next leg of your style journey. The first is a tad juvenile, and the second a little too strict for your persona.

I think this is really interesting--K/P and K/T raise fun questions. The jacket, sure, it's over.
The trench, you look great in, as you can so do in so many things, but it's not really the modern easier fit and look, I guess. So I'd have to be practical--is it a placeholder that you need to have to get around, or is a style-blocker and you'll wear it just because you have it. Or sometimes it's not good to get rid of something if you really don't want to feel pressured into getting its replacement. I think that's the hardest thing. I know the swap is the immediate thing, but sometimes I let retail research help me compare things I have and see if I really ought to move on or if the new items aren't so much different or better after all--as in, I'll wear said items or outfits while shopping. One problem is that sometimes an updated look (or at least what is readily available in stores) doesn't fit my body type or something so I'll have to decide how to use the item that fits well, but plan to mitigate or juxtapose it with other items in the outfit to achieve the update or style shift until there is something really wow to replace it.

Or, you could just take Angie's advice directly!

Interesting way to think about it, Unfrumped. I'm not sure it needs replacing at all, since it was never really utilized. But if I were, I think it would become 2 completely separate items. One: a lightweight transitional jacket - which would be the H&M anorak I recently bought. Two: a somewhat 'uptown' look for lack of a better term - I like the red wool jacket I have in my Finds. It is very similar styling, but less 'strict' as Angie rightly described the trench; the wool feels more texturally me. Also the asymmetric front fastening has a little edge I find more up my alley.
