Keep/Return- tote plus grey hair

Hi all,

Haven't posted for a while, but thought I would ask for opinions on this tote, I feel like it's too big, but not sure. I'm short waisted so easily overwhelmed by this kind of thing.

I wanted the tote to look more long, but as I wear it, it appears more wide.

And you can see my grey hair too...

I'm short, so I'm very sensitive to tote sizes. I don't find this one too big for you at all! Maybe it's because Nordstrom classifies this one as *large* vs. *extra large*? In your pics it looks empty. If I were you, before making my final decision, I would stuff it with whatever I thought I might be toting around: First, to make sure it functions as intended, and second, to see how it looks on my body when filled.

Agree with what @DonnaF suggests about filling up the tote with your usual essentials. I love the color and the size looks good to me, not too big at all. The thing i would check are the shoulder straps: whether they slip at all, and if they go over the coat or jacket you plan to wear. I have sloping shoulders and slipping straps are the reason I have a love-hate relationship with totes.

Good tip to fill it up before deciding. Also, I carry my tote by the handles when it is fully loaded and you'll want to double-check to make sure that it isn't dragging on the ground when full.

I agree with the others!
I have one about this size and find it handy for work and any other time when I need to carry larger items.
I think we were both growing out our grey hair at the same time.
It takes quite a while and is kind of bitter-sweet!
I like that there is no longer re-growth/ old colour and you can see exactly where you are at. Your natural hair looks nice and consistent and intentional.

First off, your grey is gorgeous!

Secondly, so is the tote.

Were you around for my deliberations about the Rebecca Minkoff hobo? I had the same question as you -- was it just too big for my 5'4" short waisted frame? But people advised exactly what they are saying to you -- stuff it with the stuff you'd normally carry and see how it looks. (I think I showed mine with stuffing paper still in, which was as inconclusive as showing it empty is.) I think this should work very well assuming it meets the other criteria. No one expects a tote bag to be small -- we just don't want it to look like a suitcase.

I'm not used to a bag this size on me...and Suz, I'm 5'4" also! But sounds like all of you feel that it looks fine.

The straps are a little more flimsy than I'd like, peacechick thanks for reminding me to consider that. It doesn't feel totally secure/sturdy on my shoulder...you can see that in the pictures too. Hmmm.

Other ideas for something about this size and shape? Id like to fit some folders and my iPad, and not spend more than $200.

Thanks for the comments on my hair! It is a little bittersweet--but I don't miss having to maintain the brown every 4 weeks.

I like the shape and don't think it's too big for you. I'm not thrilled with the color for you, if your hair were still brown I would like a brown bag, but since it's not, and you are wearing black footwear, I'm wanting to see this type of bag in another color. (Black or grey or something bright like red?) Sorry I hope that opinion does not disappoint you, take it with a grain of salt too because I am somewhat obsessed with matching my bag to shoes and/or hair.

We should have some conversations on adjusting to grey hair.

I have not completely banished cognac tones from my closet but if I wear them, I do try to wear another cognac (or similar) item or have a pattern that includes that tone. Since most of my wardrobe (well, really all of my wardrobe) is in cool tones except for a pair of cognac sandals, one bag, and a belt, this is not so easy! But cognac can work surprisingly well with grey, with leopard, with black, with navy/ ink, and even burgundy and red -- all colours that look fantastic with grey hair.

I wouldn't have a cognac bag as my *only* bag now, but as an occasional, if it worked with my coat/ footwear, I would do it.

I am loving my burgundy bag with silver hardware with my grey hair. I also have a navy backpack, and a grey Le Pliage tote (with cognac handles).

Silver or pewter and an off white bag are next on my list.

Ok great to see your dramatic grey hair, and the tote looks good as does the rest of the outfit. Spoken as someone 5'3" with somewhat dramatic grey hair whom likes to carry large bags.

Suz-- I probably would like that hobo bag, I missed the window when it was on sale. I am looking for a bag that will be my main bag, so I'm leaning toward sending this back and looking for a red or grey one.

Yes, there probably is more to be said about adjusting to grey.

Shevia -Thanks for the compliment on my hair. It does take some courage...sometimes I'm the only one in the room with grey hair and, just for a minute, I question it. But mostly it's fine.

I do use the Davines purple hair conditioner about 2x a week. It has helped get rid of some yellow/brassiness that I had for a while.

For what it's worth, I did not think to even remark on your grey hair! I think it is very elegant, and the lightness of your hair texture and beautifully lined brows remind me of the French aristocrats

Love your hair. You might like a silver or pewter bag, although they seem hard to find this year. Those metallic are my most used bags from tote to clutch. After my hair turned grey, I find that I can wear silver as well as gold and some cool colors. I rarely use a black bag.

Your hair color is great! My hair is a combo of gray/silver/white & for what it's worth, I find that earth colors do not work as well as they did when I was coloring it dark brown. Echoing others that silver, pewter bags might accent the grey color of your hair. I've also found that a blue bag has been fun and works well.

Beautiful hair! When I went grey I wanted grey and silver bags. I have a few Harvey Seatbelt bags. I have this one in the smaller size for a purse, but this size might work for you as a tote. I've taken mine on a couple of trips, and I just wash them afterwards. The woven ones are heavy, but this type isn't heavy at all. I love this style with the strap.

I love the hair! I think the size of the bag is fine. I happen to like the color of the bag and don't see anything wrong with wearing cognac when you have grey hair.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments! I still feel self conscious about my hair sometimes...often I'm the only one with grey hair in the room.

Between concerns about the straps and the color, I sent the bag back. Will keep looking.
