Laura & Heather: I think that's exactly it: the fabric is quite substantial (love it), and the style a little more body-conscious than my other dresses, so it took me a little time to get used to the look and feel. It is comfortable, even when sitting down.

I realize your decision has been made but I wanted to add how fab this dress looks on you. Glad you are keeping. Can't wait to see you in the colored scarves too

My feeling about the fit of this dress is that it is snug in the bodice and arms, but gives a nice enhancment to the curve of the hips. It's a fun dress and I love a good colorblock, this is a good one. I am contemplating taking down the hem since I am 57 but the length looks wonderful on you, and I like it with the boots. I am 5'8" how tall are you?
I love your style and wear the same cool colors as you so you are a very definate style inspiration to me Inge.
Now I want to go and search to see Q Mum and Isis wearing this colorblock dress.

In this vein, and not in any way reflecting on how you look, I'm curious to know how you feel about wearing something more fitted. It's just so out of my comfort zone. Every now and then I will try on a fitted dress like this one, and although (RARELY), one might actually look good, I still can't bring myself to purchase, because I can't handle not having a little leeway on days when I can't suck it all in or just don't feel all that confident.

I need your posture.

San: You're spot on about the feel and fit of this dress. I'll definitely be thinking of you, Kim and Isis everytime I wear it! I'm blushing here, San, you've no idea how inspired I am each time you post an outfit!! I'm about 5'9 and I hear you on the length. I wouldn't have mind it a bit longer either. Definitely try letting it out if you know you'll wear it more often that way.

Una: I'm definitely still getting used to the feeling, and I am totally in favour of some extra leeway whenever possible too. I'm hoping I'll be alright in this dress on those days. It really is the most substantial and sturdy ponte knit I have ever seen. It's not Spanx of course, but it definitely holds you in a little bit. Give it a try if you like the style for you.

Inge, you look so fab in this that I ordered it with my birthday gift card! I am concerned about the length, but if it can be let down I may be OK. There is a strong simplicity about this that I like a lot...it has a bit of a 60s vibe, I think -- perfect with your haircut. Una, would love to see you in this, too!

Claire: I'm sorry, I realised I forgot to answer your questions. I don't really intend to layer tops underneath the dress, but will definitely give jeggings a try. Although I think it will look better and more mod with black hose or leggings.
