Two handbags that I got recently: the raspberry tote I posted about earlier, and a taupe hobo I got from myhabit. The tote I'm keeping, but the hobo I think is going back--it's just too big for my frame, unless the YLF ladies feel differently. I'm a little annoyed at myself for buying something that can only be returned for credit (since this was not a cheap handbag), but fortunately I see that the credit can be used on amazon and endless as well as myhabit, so I'll be able to spend that money on a variety of things. Also, a open mesh sweater I bought from Express--I really like the open mesh sweater look and am trying it out for cheap with this one. Obviously this isn't how I would style the sweater.

I think I agree with you. It's funny how the tote and the hobo are really appoximately the same size, yet the hobo FEELS so much bigger and bulkier! I like the mesh sweater and think you might wear it a lot in the warmer weather.

i think its the handle length of the hobo that bothers my eye on that. Cant wait to see how you style the sweater -i have a similar one and would love to see your ideas!

Suz, the hobo IS bigger than the tote--they have approximately the same length but the hobo is wider. And like raclar pointed out, I think the biggest issue isn't necessarily the size of the bag, but that the handles are too big for me, from a visual point of view.

BTW, you chose a great time to come down to the NYC area! The weather is fabulous.

Raclar, I think I'm going to start simple--sleeveless top in either a dark or bright color, plus jeans, and sweater over it. Any other ideas would be welcome.

Hope you find a better bag --- I think hobos, due to their general puffiness, almost always look better with longer, thinner handles/straps for smaller frames like yours. How about hopping into a brick-and-mortar shop to just try out a few sizes and shapes (irrespective of actual colour or detail or style) before you choose your next one?

Sorry to agree the 2nd bag should go back. I find it very difficult to order bags online and usually just buy in person (or not at all). Cute sweater on you .

Good eye with the bags! I agree the second would should be returned - you can put that credit to good use and someone else can enjoy that bag! Love the sweater -- a fun trend for you!

I actually like the hobo better than the tote. The reason being is that the hobo is more youthful and relaxed, but I know I'm the minority. The hobo would look great if you carry it by the handle, just like you would hold a briefcase.

...And I love the mesh sweater. I bought something similar from Express a while ago, after I saw it on one of the SA's. She had a cami with a leopard print underneath and was wearing red skinnies and black flats. I thought it was brilliant to wear something with pattern underneath. She looked awesome!

I'm with others on the bag assessment. The hobo is a bit short in the straps and a tad too long in the length. I'm not sure this slouchy style is great for this size of bag. The first bag is super, perfect length in the straps, length in the bag itself and I also really like the stiffer style on you. Nice find! The cropped sweater is a good find too, great to layer with skinnies and longer tops and also over a dress or with shorts. Nice job!

Good choice! I love the tote...the finish and the style are beautiful. The hobo doesn't look as nice and does seem to be a bit big for your frame! You were wise to keep the tote! Cute sweater!!!

thanks, everyone. The hobo is packed up and ready to be sent back. And I've already worn the mesh sweater, though I didn't get a chance to post an outfit.

Zap, I agree that hobo shapes are more modern and fun, but this one was just too big for me. I would have loved it had the straps and bag had been 2/3 as big.
