Keep or Purge these steampunk boots?

I really love these boots, and they are super comfy and well-made, but I haven't worn them much at all since I got them. They sometimes seem to overwhelm an outfit, and they look best with either short shorts and tights or shorter skirts.

Should I keep and try to wear with a minimal look like #1 for work this F/W, or should I move on? Are they too OTT for my department at work?

Yay = keep

I really love these in all your examples, Rae, with the exception of the dress in 1, which seems to need something a little more refined or simple, IYKWIM.

I think they are fab and I'd keep them. Lots of items that didn't see much wear time in my closet are suddenly becoming workhorses, so If you love them - you never know when they might be needed again!

I like them in 1 and 4. But if you feel your style moving away from them, then I say purge. In any case I think you have a few months to think about it, September wouldn't be too late to re-sell them.

I love them Rae. What size are you ;)? No you should keep them. I felt the same about my Frye Veronica because I haven't worn them much lately. Anyway they feel like something you should keep. You could wear them over skinnies. I know you wear BFs more right now but boots over skinnies are good for cold rainy days. They are not to OTT for work. I like how you've styled them, and it sounds like you really like them. So I would not recommend letting go of them just yet.

Definitely not over the top, appropriate in the examples you have shown. I say keep...I love that these allow for a way to sneak a little of yourself into work wear.

I think you should keep them for now. In the current weather, boots don't see a lot of wear, so it may not be a good time to judge.

Your style is evolving, and while I am not sure how these would fit into the new streamlined sleek style of yours, I still hesitate as you love them and they are comfy.

Do you have the room to keep them and work them into your wardrobe? Are they comfy enough for work? If so, with what is in your closet, can you create a few outfits for work and let them be the star that they want to be?

Love + comfy + well made = definitely keep! Reminded me of Angie's recent post on evaluating item in hiatus. You are a styling genius, I'm sure you'll find more fun ways to wear it.

I, too, would advise that you keep them. Love them with outfits 3 & 4, especially the knee socks!! I think you need some different colour knee socks to match with outfits, too. Outfit number 1 if you want the boots to be the centre of attention.

Perhaps all you need is to "force" yourself to wear them to work a few times, and then they will feel more appropriate for that environment.

I would never call them OTT for someone selling fashion, and I believe that's you.

Keeeeeep. Those are magnificent and comfortable! @Peri: I've always considered steampunk to be a more flirty version of goth. It's more accessible and versatile than goth/punk is.

I love those boots too Rae - and this doesn't seem like a good time to make a decision on them yet - so, I'd hold on for awhile and see what happens when it cools off a bit.
Peri - I'm with you - steampunk syle absolutely eludes me! I have absolutely no idea what it is, even after I'm told what it is!!!!

I like them best when paired like in 1 or 4 - as a contrast to a classic outfit, and especially in 1 if you're feeling like the LBD needs to be punked up.

You've purged a lot lately, but I always wait to ebay boots until at least September. The vast majority of people don't think this far ahead or wear many boots in the summer. So, wait and see how you fell in two months?

I also noticed some of your different hair lengths in the series of pics, and I must say that your current (pic 1) length is my fave by far! I know you've been not thrilled with your shortest cut, but I so much prefer the edginess of pic 1 over the length in 4 and the mediumness of 3. I hope you'll take it for what it's worth -- my .02 even when not requested . . .

I've been doing a lot of wardrobe winnowing so I'm asking myself all these questions about keep or toss. But if something still fits and looks good, like these, I'd give it some time. Or, do you have several others so you just don't get around to these? Can you go, these, or these? If not, then it seems like they can still be good outfit-extenders for you. Fit and comfort are key and so if those are good, new boots may not be better. I like the warm color mixed with the darker items like black dress or pencil skirt and then picked up somewhere else in the outfit.

I think they look good in the outfits you've shown and they don't seem over the top to me. I would say keep until at least past fall and then re-evaluate whether you're wearing them more.

They remind me of a pair of Miz Mooz boots I wore last night. The color is lovely and the detailing is fabulous. IKWYM when you look at the styling and think it's overwhelming or it has too much going on. I think it looks wonderful with the black dress. Perhaps that's how you make it work -- by pairing it with very simple pieces. I just love how they amp up the style quotient. I will agree the detailing might compete with a plaid but I don't feel the same way about the competition factor in #4. I think it's a balance that you'll have to play with. It's probably difficult now because you have not worn them a lot. Definitely a keeper.

Hi ladies, thanks for checking back in (DV, the thread was from about 4 months ago). I did in fact end up selling them to someone in Australia. They were another piece I loved but couldn't wear for work and felt OTT for my casual days. I guess I am learning I don't have to actually own everything I think is awesome!
