rachylou, I noticed the same. The other thing I noticed was that the non-Western items they chose were items that would be immediately recognised as specific to certain ethnicities, (sari, salwar kameez) noticeably exotic (tabi boot, cheongsam) or religious signifiers (kippah, hijab).
Conspicuous by their absence are non-Western forms which are ubiquitous and therefore part of the fashion designer's vernacular. Good examples would be parkas and anoraks, which are both still recognisably drawn from their original Inuit forms. And I can't for the life of me think why they've chosen to exclude ponchos and kimonos from this list.
The more I think about this, the more it upsets me.
