Is a LBD necessary?

I've been wondering something and I would like to pose a question to you wonderful ladies and gentlemen. Is a LBD (Little Black Dress) necessary if you have something similar that could work? I have this dress that I wore to a friend's wedding seen in this post.

To me, a LBD is all black. This one is navy and black, but I think it can do the same job as a little black dress. What do you think? Can it do the same or should I stay onthe hunt for the perfect LBD?

I think this dress would work in 99 percent of LBD occasions. The only situation where I think it might be troublesome is an extremely conservative funeral.

I don't find LBD's to be terribly useful anyway, I think your navy dress would be far more versatile. I have a black jersey dress which is primarily a funeral dress but I have worn it out to dinner and to work occasionally but for parties I much prefer my turquoise and coffee cream dresses x

I don't think a LBD needs to be black, but having a go-to dress in your closet is always a good idea!

It doesn't need to be black. It needs to be a dark neutral and versatile. You've got it right here!

Not everyone needs one.

Having said that, even as a work-at-home MOTG who has been trying to reduce black in her wardrobe, I love my LBD.

The dress from your other post is beautiful, and it absolutely would work. Blue and black are both neutrals, so definitely this could be your "little black dress." If you had to wear it to a funeral, I would just throw on a long black jacket or trench, like in the third photo.

I think the idea is just a versatile neutral dress, black is not required This looks like a wonderful choice.

I don't have any dresses, and so far, I have survived. I did have a LBD once, and would love to have one again, but it is not a necessity in my life. I have a black pencil skirt, and a swooshy black crepe skirt, and they cover quite nicely in situations where a dress would be called for.

I think maybe it should be renamed LDD for little dark dress. I think navy, black, dark forest green, dark burgundy or eggplant, dark brown can all work just as well for thee formal occasions. I am planning on making mine a navy dress as well. It's a little easier to wear casually too.
