I've always adored Kate Hepburn for her independence in an era when women were expected to live their lives as wives and mothers. She was a beautiful woman who preferred using her intelligence instead of trading on her looks to accomplish her goals. She was rude, provocative, opinionated, and stubborn, but fiercely loyal to her friends and values. She shocked people, not because it was a canny career move, but because she truly wanted to live her life on her terms.
And, I'm with k can shop in thinking she'd have been wonderful as Beryl Markham
