Incredible Sweater Eating Desk

When I came back from leave in January, there was some damage done to my desk (which, interestingly, is MDF underneath. Who knew?) I taped up the damage and requested maintenance to be fix or replace. Which they haven't.

Today, it ate its third sweater. See, the tape starts to come off just a little and then my sweater gets little holes in it from the MDF. I am furious today as it got my new black cashmere V-neck! Arrgh! ;_;

I think I am going to start coming to work in old tees until they fix it!

I have velcro closures on one of my Lands End jackets that does the same thing if I do not zip it up. It has ruined several of my tops.

Maybe I should just remove or cover up the Velcro? Hmmm...

My husband has a tie-eating desk at work. He claims this is why he switched to wearing more vests and/or bow ties.

I'd go at it with some sandpaper personally.

I have had this as well! Mine got my nice tights! I would use a really strong tape to secure stong paper (like a file folder) over it.

Sorry , I had to laugh at this. Not at you, but at the fact that I too have a sweater eating desk. The front edge is a mess that snags the cuffs of anything and everything while I am typing. Now granted this is MY desk and MY responsibility to do something about it but still!

Sounds like your office needs to provide some compensation for the damaged sweaters. I'd stop going to work until it's fixed lol.

I know it can sound silly but it isn't really funny, is it? Of course you can adapt wardrobe but that is a pain and also in winter you may rely on the sweaters you have, not having to go buy new desk-proof ones.
Lara I have same problem with a lunch tote that has Velcro on it and it swings against legs and picks tights or hose. I keep staring at it instead of covering up the little Velcro squares ( I tossed whatever straps use to be there for them, not realizing what would happen.). I will not use little Velcro-negative squares; I think this is a job for duct tape, too.

I have a pant biting corner desk in my lab. I used some child-proofing foam tubing and duct tape to take care of it.

Oh Thistle, how annoying! I like Diana's idea of sandpaper. Would you be able to put some clear nail polish on it?

Actually duct tape works for everything. Even positional plagiocephaly (flat spot on a baby's head). As a baby my daughter developed one because she wanted to sleep on her back all the time, and even if I tried to put her on her side and wedge her with a towel or one of those foam wedge things they make specifically to discourage flat head syndrome, she'd wiggle out of it. In frustration one day I rolled up a towel and DUCT TAPED it to the back of her sleeper. I'm not even kidding. (My husband thought I was). And it worked! Her head rounded out in about six months. Which is good because I've seen those plagiocephaly helmets and I don't know, I think two years of wearing a helmet, even in very early childhood, might constitute cruel and unusual punishment.

Back to your sweaters: I'm so sorry! That is so very annoying. I am annoyed for you. Duct tape that desk up!

Maintenance came by today and they are delivering a new desk tomorrow. Apparently it couldn't be fixed and they were waiting for me to get angry enough before they bought a new one. At least, that's my thoughts!

Still, frustrated to lose 3 sweaters, but at least the problem is fixed. I will most assuredly be on the sweater prowl next fall!

They owe you a few new sweaters. But I understand how it wouldn't look good to demand new clothes. At least they finally did something about it!

Ohmigosh. I had blocked the memory... but the drawer handles in this one kitchen I had ate an eyelet dress I had alive. Turned it into fringe...

Wow, Thistle I'm so sorry for your loss of clothing. I work in a 100+ year old school building, and I'm pretty sure the furniture is original! With all the old wooden chairs and rough edges on everything, I have ruined several articles of clothing and countless stockings.

And no one ever comes by to fix anything!

This would make me cry. I know you spend a lot of time finding quality flattering sweaters. I cry for your three sweaters!

And yes duct tape fixes everything.
