We're finishing up our trip to my family's cabin in northern Michigan. As a child, I came up here every year, and the place is a little time capsule that changes but slowly. The cabin lives its life for two weeks a year, and things that would be swept away in a matter of months at home last for decades here, or longer.
Just this trip, we found a note from my grandfather along with some new (circa 1994!) gaskets that we used to fix the kitchen sink. I also found outfit inspiration from something my grandmother left behind. Her tiny (size 6) moccasins hang in a closet, waiting for her to return and slip into them. I never saw her wear another style of shoe. She hasn't been back here for maybe fifteen summers now. We lost Farmor first to Alzheimers and then to death, but her shoes wait here just in case Fate changes its mind.
Shot one (I'm wearing moccasins in homor of my Farmor, though you can't see them in the pic) is of our little family just outside the log chapel where we had our civil wedding seven years ago. We've added two to our number since then! This pic features real North Woods fashion - hoodie, tee, and jeans! I do like my new cap and plan to wear it for commuting by foot in the cold.
Thanks for putting up with bad fashion and sappy musings!
