This is brilliant!

This trick is so clever, and it looks amazing on you! I have a few mesh tops and one dress. They are all layered and I love how much they can hide without looking bulky.

This is fantastic. I would never even look at the top like that thinking that it is too transparent, but it is actually perfect for layering. Thank you for the idea.

It looks fantastic with all of these tops. It really does 'zhush up' any shirt. Love it and it suits you to a T!

What a genius idea! That one top completely transforms into many others. You look gorgeous, as ever, throughout.

Thanks all!

Just adding one more example, for anyone still following this conversation. This is my dark floral mesh top with an aubergine turtleneck top underneath. I wore this out to lunch today. Again, I think this undertone works better with my colouring and my skirt than a black underlayer.

It's perfection! Agree about switching the black to something warmer like aubergine - fab!

The aubergine is definitely flattering, deepens the whole effect. I find this a very clever discovery!

Gorgeous! I love rich aubergine.

This is such a FAB idea! I think the shimmer in the black mesh also helps elevate whatever you wear under it. The floral print mesh is surprisingly versatile as well! I love all the ways you have shown both pieces! Kudos!

.....you had me with the swooshy skirt....

KILLER STUNNING skirt outfit with the flared skirt! (The pics in your last comment above mine). That's now my favourite mesh top look on your thread

I've read the whole thread a few times and really enjoy this one . Probably the best ideas/dressing strategies I've heard in ages. I have little need for dressy pieces at this point in life, but I think a mesh top (I have one in an opaque floral that I never wear - feels too body con and vavoom) in a looser , plain black is going on my shopping list. Thank you !

Love this you're so creative. My fave is with the teal; mind you, you are queen teal so that may be why!!

Thanks everyone.

LJP, I’m glad you found this helpful. I agree that some ease in the fit of the mesh top is key. It’s functioning as a thin sweater, rather than an underlayer.

AJ, yes, the shine/glitter is great for elevating my cotton tees.

Angie, that was my fave combination too. I love that top.

Helena, I think the light teal gave the prettiest effect. Teal with a black patina. What’s not to like about that!

And thanks for chiming in again Rachy, Star and Slimcat.

Awesome thread and ideas Brooklyn. The styling photos for these tops always seem to show them with a bra underneath or similar, which is not an accessible look for most of us. Love your versions.
