Impressed with JC Penney's updates

We don't have a Penney's super close but I was in another part of town yesterday and went to a different mall. I was very impressed with the new look. They carry Joe Fresh now, which I remember the Canadians mentioning, but several of their store brands have also been refreshed - Ana for casual wear and Worthington for work wear. And a Mango diffusion line in juniors. A lot of modern, clean lines, color blocking, and much improved fabrications. They had a ton of stuff on winter clearance including a houndstooth jacket I bought for 20 bucks. I would definitely go back, especially if I needed work/office wear at a reasonable price.

Wow, that is a lot of look, as Tim Gunn says.

I was actually not that floored with the Joe Fresh stuff. The styling and design were spot on trend, but the fabrications felt a little cheap and/or thin, and the few things I tried on were more suited to a rectangular figure, which i am definitely not. If you're going for an updated preppy look, I would think you'd have better luck ordering from LL Bean or Lands' End's Canvas line (if your concern is quality) or picking up some basics from Target or the Polo diffusion line at Kohls (if your concern is price).

The Joe Fresh line hasn't lived up to the hype in my opinion, but I've found some terrific pieces from Worthington, a.n.a., Liz Claiborne, and their Levi's shop. I also like to check out their shoe selections and have bought some of my cutest and most comfy shoes from Penney's (on sale of course).

ETA: Both my fuchsia blazer and my white one are from their MNG by Mango boutique (available online but not in all stores).

I love JCP, it's one of my favorite stores (I live near three of them). I like the Joe Fresh line, and just about all of their other lines too. Oh no, don't tell me they're having a winter clearance sale! I just paid my JCP bill in full and it sure stung a little. But those were (mostly) Christmas presents for DH. And I do have a few wardrobe holes I wanted to fill. A houndstooth jacket for $20 you say? A blazer style or outdoor jacket? I might have to go check this out and see....oh dear....

Wow! I couldn't deal with that mix of stripes and plaid. One of them alone overwhelms me, let alone together! Not my thing....but she looks cute! The solid coat certainly tones down the shock wave.

I hadn't bought anything from JC Penney in years, but actually found a nice pair of brown leather boots there this fall. Just a hundred bucks. Nice too. I did put insoles in them.
Had a nice pair of Ana suede slouch boots I almost bought too. Can't wear the Worthington line, don't go small enough for me-except the blouses. Found a couple-one nice cotton and the other-silk. Have to really shop that store carefully. I have found LL Bean's quality waning the last few years, while price remains steady. Lands End has nice quality, but doesn't fit me well. Once again, give the small chain boutique Maurice's a look....I have found some pieces that are nice, lined blazers/jackets. >I've added photos of several I bought. I first rediscovered JCP when a running buddy recommended their workout clothes, but have also discovered two things:

1 - their lingerie lines are pretty terrific (Cosmopolitan and Cosabella especially)
2 - the customer service there is quite good.

We had no store nearby for many years, and about a year ago, one opened up very near me. I like shopping there, plus, there's that Sephora store-within-a-store.

Jewell, I meant to mention the Levi's selection but forgot - they definitely had a lot of cuts and sizes which is rare in store other places. Karie, it was a blazer cut, not outerwear, although they did have some of that on sale too.

Pame, your boots are very nice. I so wish we had any Maurice's nearby - I used to shop there all the time when I was in high school and college. They are owned by the same folks as Dress Barn now so sometimes I can find similar stuff there, but DB skews older/dressier.

Linda, I will have to check out their lingerie and workout wear - I didn't venture to that part of the store yesterday.

The one 2 miles away closed But the closest one 40 miles away has a very nice new look, including a Sephora in the middle of it!

My local JCP is not nearly as nice as the one I was in in another city last spring. I bought blue skinnies for $5.00, and a really super blazer for around $25.00. I think because the one closer to me is near a huge retirement community it doesn't carry as much trendy stuff.

I've been a JCPenny customer since childhood, when my mother would give the catalog to me and my sister to look at and earmark what we wanted for Christmas. I've heard they're in real trouble financially; it would be a sad end of an era if they went under.

Yeah, I've really been loving JCP lately. They understand the concept of women being different sizes and different ages. It is wonderful.
