I don’t wear jeans a lot, mostly when I’m going to be out and about, but not at home, where comfort is my priority. I just don’t find them all that comfortable! It’s so hot here in Arizona in the summer, and even part of the spring and fall, that I wear a lot of shorts. For smart casual I like the Brigitte Bermuda shorts from Chico’s with a wedge sandal and nice top or blouse. When I was working I even styled them with heels and a blazer and loved that look.

As for jeans alternatives, here are some things I read about this morning that I thought might be of interest. I know you’ll find something great and then style it with your usual creativity and skill.

nemosmom - you have a terrific collection of casual pants ! I'm looking some of them up right now Dick's Sporting Goods - I love that store but haven't been in one in years (they aren't in Canada).

@Lisa thanks! The Dick’s pants are by (RIP) Twitch and Allison — a warmup pant that I pulled out of my fitness kit when parachute pants started trending! They are sold by Dick’s but not exclusive. I’ve seen them online - a google search might find a pair close to you for not a lot of $. Warning: they are on the louder/swishy side, but they wear like iron and are easy to layer under in the cold. Love them.

Thanks for the tip !

This thread was a great reminder that there is life beyond jeans, and that I could stand to have a couple of pair of nicer cotton pants to wear at home or out for errand running etc. I do have one ancient pair of Sanctuary cargo joggers which I don't wear in the winter, but only because I don't have anything to complete an outfit . Lots to ponder here.......

Carla, there have been lots of great ideas here so you may be sorted, but here's what I'm wearing lately. First off, I am guilty of not updating my denim, so I'm not wearing it much. I have a pair of 7 Dojo's that need to be hemmed and a pair of distressed straight legs that are cute and stylish, but not terribly comfy.

Casually, I've been wearing Adidas silky track pants with cashmere sweaters (mostly the grey off the shoulder) and then I have wide leg cropped pants made out of sweater material. If it's really cold I'll wear them with tights underneath. And since they're oatmeal colored, I wear them with my high shaft Sam Edelman cream booties.

We'll all be excited to see what you come up with!

Depending on the season, in addition to jeans I wear corduroy pants, velour pants, patterned knit pants, cotton capris and comfortable skirts.

Winter is hard. I had to give up most of my jeans for health reasons in the middle of the capri style. I went from jeans five days a week to two days. I needed full length casual pants to keep warm enough. I found no logged black snow pants, and some jogger styles in Ponte knit or fleece that look pretty casual. I also wear my EF long pants a couple of times a week. They very in fabric but some are pretty basic and casual. Good luck. Shop second hand stores and ignore sizes marked. Try on. Exercise pants were a mistake for me.

I only wear jeans in deep winter. The rest of my 'cold weather' casual trousers are either thicker cargo joggers, corduroy & peg legs (with & without Long Johns underneath).

In warmer weather, I switch to linen paperbag tapered legs, flowy wide legs &, of course, my satin cargo jogging pants.

In high summer only skirts will do, sorry

Exactly what Tanya said for warm weather pants. Pants for cold weather have always been problematic for me (and winter goes on forever here!). I don’t like/am tired of jeans. I have a pair of Eddie Bauer trouser style hiking pants that are very versatile and I wear a lot, all seasons (I wear thermals under them in winter). I do need to step up my winter pants game as the cold weather is showing no signs of ending around here!

During winter I wear ponte pants and thin whale corduroy pants, but the cuts are reliable oldies and not trendy.

Not sure what I’ll be in the mood for this summer; I often rotate between cotton crops, cotton longer pants, skirts, and dresses.

I have had to give up wearing jeans for at least five times a week for medical reasons. I have had to substitute Ponte pants and full length pants such as snow pants, joggers and other casual pants that are full length and casual. It was a challenge to find full length pants that were not jeans for warmth when cropped pants were popular. Some have been velvet although worn in a casual way.

I often reach for jeans, but when I don’t, I wear joggers in heftier weights or ponte knits with a slim, but not skinny leg. I have 2 straight midi skirts that I wear with tights and tall boots, to keep my legs warm.

I have yet to find a winter weight cargo pant that I like, but I will keep looking.

I tend to prefer things other than jeans. I almost have jeans just for the “ look” tgat is achieved with denim, its place in so many aesthetics, and its being viewed as neutral, though I actually don’t like how a number of colors look with denim even though they’re photographed that way in stock photos.

And like some other Fabbers, jeans are too hot in midsummer but not warm enough for winter ( even indoors) unless have an underlayer.

I do have EB flannel- lined BF jeans , especially since a newer version has a bit higher rise-still not for coldest days though.

I think it’s the waist- hip- tush fit that I have to get with jeans denim to look good- doesn’t sit right at waist & flow over hip or drape on leg. Even “ trouser style “. So for me works best with a more classic style where it’s pretty fitted on butt and then I typically don’t tuck in top, but wear a shirttail hem or high- low. Then these fits don’t tend to be what I will want to stay in all day long.
