Reading and nodding my head...I'm right behind you. Just wrapping up my 3 rd week, and working towards a 'carefully curated' closet of clothes.

I find the pictures a very important part of the process, and now when I identify a wardrobe hole, I find a couple of examples to pin onto a Pinterst board. That way I will have my own 'look book' to keep me on track when I go shopping.

This is really inspiring! And you make it sound very easy - way less daunting than I thought. What you said about it calming you during a stressful time makes me want to try it... because honestly shopping is usually what calms me in a stressful time, lol. But my income is also lower now, too. I'm going to try your approach with the Excel. You look wonderful in each and every pic here!

Krista I wonder if you would mind taking a screen shot of your excel spreadsheet so we can see how you set it up? Thanks! Denise

Love it! I thought I was the only crazy one to do this! Except I use google drive for my spreadsheet, so I can input anywhere at anytime. Though I am not organized at planning a week of outfits. I do put a date of when I washed something last to make sure my laundry is after a few wears to be Eco friendly. I also inventoried my closet. However you are right, we have dominant colors we stick to unless we are conscious of it or in my case I do it on purpose :).

This is such a helpful thread!! Thank you!

I am inspired to try this myself. What I took away from your learnings was that a little planning ahead on Sundays can make the whole week go more smoothly. I think I will schedule some weekend planning time myself - for clothing, groceries, schedules and more. Bring on the Excel spreadsheets!

Vicki - Thank you!

Una - This was not so much about discipline as it was about feeling completely lost in my wardrobe. I was someone who formally loved fashion and who had become completely disenchanted with shopping and clothes. Finding YLF and developing a system that worked for me has revitalized my passion for fashion

Runcarla - after 3 weeks you are probably noticing trends already! And Pinterest is a great tool as well!

Rae - It became so easy for me that I'm still doing it - I think I will hit 200 days this week! Over time, though, you really do start to see what works and not as much effort is required. It's just habit, now!

Denise - as requested, I added a screenshot. I hope it's helpful!

Kalli - I LOVE Google Drive, but hadn't thought of it as a tool for this. You are right though. Very tempting. I am also using Evernote, which I got as an idea from Ingunn (thanks, Ingunn!).

Laura - the planning makes it so much easier. As I just mentioned to Rae, over time I have found I don't need to plan as much as I did in the beginning, it's just a tool to make life easier. Glad you found it helpful!

I don't like spreadsheets so I keep track in a note book . I also keep track of what I wore for certain events so I don't repeat outfits. I keep a separate section on things I need and what I buy and how much it cost. I write down outfits that work and give them marks out of ten so that I can repeat high scorers. It works great for me!

That's awesome, Greek Goddess - a very detailed process. It's really about finding what works for each of us, isn't it!

Krista thanks for the screenshot, yes that helps a lot. Do you find it easier to mix and match? Of course concepts in our heads don't always play out, but the ideas are a starting point.

Denise, I actually never considered the mixing/matching concept! My original intent was to fine-tune my style and really try to determine what items in closet were working together and, if they weren't working together, to determine why and what needed to be purchased in order to make them work. Of course, an Excel spreadsheet offers all kinds of options such as mixing and matching. I am still actually tracking my outfits in the same spreadsheet, so I think I will try some mixing and matching this week.
Glad the spreadsheet helped!

Krista, thanks so much for sharing! This is just brilliant and I am so impressed. I am not Excel savvy, but I recently downloaded the Stylebook App and am in the process of inventorying my wardrobe. I also have the ability to document each daily wear on a calendar and I can see how satisfying this can be. I'm only just getting started but have already been able to identify some wardrobe holes. It's always interesting to hear how others are tracking their wardrobes, andI particularly loved hearing about your method. Your outfits are wonderful. Well done, Krista!

Thanks, Debora! It's been a fun journey. I look forward to hearing about your adventures with the Stylebook App!

I missed you Krista, YLF! Love your insights, the excell(ent) work and the great analisys! 1(even if old!),3 and 4 are my faves here (said the girl bouched up in all her greys for the office:-() . Clearly, I crave contrasts and brights for the end of winter!

Hurrah for spreadsheets! I started tracking last year, and I LOVED the information I was able to pull out about what I wore, how much variety I actually embraced, and what pieces get worn over and over and over. I generally sit down and add the day's outfit first thing in the morning, because otherwise I have a terrible tendency to forget (I generally can't remember what i wore yesterday, much less Monday. Ha!).

I really like your notes column - I might have to incorporate that I just do the actual shoes/ clothing bits. Thank you for sharing. Data nerds unite!
