Oh yeah, I remember that beautiful black/bronze-ish Pendleton scarf now! You could definitely make use of some of their cotton-based pieces for LA (that said, I feel like I had plenty of winter visits to SoCal where I was happy I had a wool topper for walking along the beach -- but I do run cold!).

Nodding along with you and SarahD8; the predominance of viscose and synthetics at Anthro always really bums me out Lately I've been feeling the same about Boden and some other brands too. Every time a colour or print catches my eye, it turns out to be a viscose piece.

Another person on team cool outerwear ... As someone who fails to invest in interesting weather appropriate outerwear every year and regrets it just as consistently!!

I think you’d get a lot of happiness out of a coatigan... and that slip dress (!) LA is a place where a slip dress really works.

I am thinking with Rachy that LA might be just the place for a slip dress and it might be fun to make your Fall statement piece something that would never work in your old home during this time of year.

Yes, yes, yes. A slip dress/cardi/booties would absolutely be you & wearable and fun.
I have those Fryes Brooklyn posted in a pale lilac & love them. Very versatile.

That Pendleton cardi is really pretty, I hope it works & makes your final cut. I agree that long cardigans and kimonos always look particularly flattering on you.

Please send 80s and 70s Southeast! Still all 90s for the foreseeable future and they started back in late April/early May. Blargh.

If a slip dress/boot/chunky cardigan combo doesn’t work in CA, I don’t know where it does work! Go for it!

I think statement items are often wild cards that are best found when you are just looking for fun and with no real purpose or pressure, if you are just keeping your eyes and mind open. Something will jump out at you!

Slipdress with a chunky cardi and boots is perfect for LA winter. I vote YES!!

All the above You have so many options with your new climate!

I don't quite understand the reason for a new topper when you've got so many good options in your closet, but that slip dress is my favorite of the batch you first posted, and then when you added the cardi and boots to it--perfect! I know you love your Jonny Was jacket, so now that there are stores near you, I want pix and tales from the fitting room

Oh the Johnny Was pieces are stunning and so perfect for your style. Like JenniNZ, I immediately loved those pieces the best.

I am in love with the Skyler tunic dress. Like, I would totally love that in my closet.

LisaP, thanks for the vote of confidence!

Christina, yup, I always loved that grunge look.

LaPedestrienne, exactly! I do get that viscose is an affordable, somewhat sustainable alternative to polyester, but I haven't had great luck with it. And I know everyone seems to love Tencel, but my experience has been that it is like absolute sponge for grease stains and holds onto them like Gollum and his Precious. Just not practical for me.

torontogirl, I think my indoor toppers will be my outerwear here!

rachylou, I just love coatigan-type pieces. Will have to be really careful here, though, because they can be really warm.

shevia, it would be fun to push those Colorado boundaries a bit, wouldn't it? I suspect, actually, that our climate is quite similar to your, though maybe a smidge warmer and dryer all around. Is that true?

Brooklyn, those have been on my radar forever. My last Fryes took FOREVER to break in, though, and the thought has given me pause on purchasing another pair.

Opaline, I will whisper to the wind to blow your direction.

Janet, so true. I usually know when a statement is going to work because I can't stop thinking about it.

nemosmom, I am still thinking through the practicality. Would I be able to work in it? Would it be comfortable for a museum day? How often would I reasonably wear that formula?

suntiger, I don't think my budget will stretch to ALL of the above. Or my closet space, which is quite a big tighter than at the old place.

Fashintern, I sold a few of my less-worn toppers before moving, several others are likely in their last season, and the wool and cashmere ones aren't as everyday-practical here as in Colorado. They are definitely my "happiness factors" as Mainelady puts it, so I really could use one or two new ones at some point.

Bijou, sadly the Kamalah wrap is probably out, as it's 100% polyester. I just love the colors and print, though, so I'm leaving it in my finds just to look at.My budget doesn't extend to a Johnny Was shopping spree, but I definitely can add a special piece every once in a while, which is how I like to shop anyway!

cindysmith, I would likely want to wear something like that over jeans or leggings, but I really like it too!

Ok, I want you to have it all. But I'm very intrigued by the slip dress/ cardi/ boot look for you -- I think it could seriously work. And mustard would be a fun addition. The Fryes that Brooklyn posted would also be cool. But I hear you on break in. I've never bought a pair because I feel they are so stiff!

On synthetics at Anthro: quite a few of their kimonos are silk. Would that work for you, or would it be too lightweight?

BTW, did you wind up getting the slipdress at Sundance a couple years ago?

Haha! (^_-) Thanks!

Suz, I'm surprised that I kind of "want it all' too. I am still 13 items below my self-imposed shopping limit for the year, but I have a few essentials that need replacing. Plenty of room for at least a couple of fun things, though!

Fashintern, I do have a silk kimono from Anthro from several years ago. When I search now, though, only result for "silk kimono" comes up, and it's a blend. In any case, I find it useful as a sun cover-up, but less so for warmth on chilly days. I did not get the dress from Sundance. I actually go back to it every once in a while, and regret it a little.

Jenn, I am late but vote for statement light weight toppers. You wear them well and the climate will insure that they are workhorses. Get something you can wear with your cowboy boots.

Those Sundance catalogs are black holes of goodness. There’s like a 97% chance I’ll love every shoe, bag & piece of jewelry in it.

Oh yes, Joy! I'm excited for cowboy boot weather!

Right, Opaline?! The eclectic/artsy/boho aesthetic GETS ME. And I like that it feels a bit more mature than, say, FreePeople.

Exactly!

I would get one of those wide brim hats and something made in California.

I vote for the cotton Pendleton cardigan
