I am not too concerned about what's in and what's out, but I did wonder if I'm totally past the timeframe on these. Thoughts?

m thinking to wear them around the house for a bit to see how they wear first. I've also read in reviews of other styles that the coating can come off. Any care recommendations?

I haven't been paying attention, so I don't know if they're out or not. They're really nice, though, and I think that if you love them you should go ahead and wear them. As far as care instructions, I have no clue. Maybe you could Google it.

Thanks BC and AM. Maybe I'll be totally over it once I wear them for a while, but is obviously been something I've had my eye on for a long time. I like that they are more pant like than legging like. I think that will make them more versatile.

I've had coated jeans the last couple of seasons. Some have eventually lost the coating, others have kept it so far. I would not have them unless you like them well enough to have just for a season or to wear also without the coating. Mine were machine washed on gentle/hand wash and always hung to air dry. Some say to dry clean, others to not dry clean. They are like leather...too warm for warm weather and cut the wind when it is cold. I liked the look of the texture. None of mine swished. (I had 4 pair that were worn regularly).

I will keep that in mind Joy. I honestly think I will be over the itch once I have them, so if I keep, I'll try to wear quite a bit this year and just see how they hold up. This particular pair had a lot of stretch, and moved comfortably, which is a real plus.

I really like the leather look of coated jeans and have a few pairs in different styles. I wash on gentle, cold water, inside out, and air dry. I wear mine mostly to work on casual Friday or for going out, not for anything involving my dog. That means I don't have to wash them often (so that the coating lasts longer). I agree with Joy that they do read wintery because of the leather look.

I have a pair from WHBM from maybe two years ago? I love them. People mistake them for leather a lot. The coating is still good.

I don't think they're out of date at all. I see lots of leather and faux leather pants and leggings on retail sites. I consider these to be in the same category.

My Helmut Lang coated jeans lost their coating fairly quickly. There is a proper method for cleaning them that involves a brush and no water (and a different set of instructions for if the brush method doesn't work)

If your coating comes off, it can be redone with the right wax and a hair dryer.

Google the care instructions for Barbour coated jackets for the best care information. There are guys out there who take their waxed jackets very seriously, and they offer great tips.

I re-coated my pair once and decided I wasn't doing that again until we had an actual house (because doing that in my RV was NOT fun because NO SPACE LoL) That's IF I decide to coat them again, I am starting to become attached to the softer look of them without the coating

The September issue of inStyle did a styling feature with coated jeans, so I would say they are still 'in'.

DS#1 had a pair of black coated jeans that we washed inside out and hung to dry. He loved those jeans!

delurked - I love waxed black coated denim. I have a pair of EF jeans. I try not to wash them often. When I do, I do as Brooklyn does. Inside out, cool, hang dry. No issues. I just bought the R13 Black waxed crossover jeans but have not had to wash them yet. I'll like them both even if the coating slowly wears away. Like you, I find both pairs are incredibly comfortable and it's a fun and elegant/rate treatment. Like you, I am not concerned about time frame. I actually prefer to wear items that are not on trend per se. I feel self conscious only when I feel like I'm a sheep, since I'm more the lone wolf type!! I will be wearing them both for many years to come!! Enjoy your jeans!!

Cindy - My DIY skills need improvement, so I am crossing my fingers I can wash gently and get the coating to stay.

Thanks for the feedback Gigi. The reviews on the ones I got cited they ran small, and for that reason I went with the bigger of the two sizes I'm between.

I immediately thought of your post when I saw these at Mango yesterday. I came back here to see what the verdict was on coated jeans.
I am sorry I could not comment earlier. I had a black pair of coated jeans from Mango for the last five years, and the coating washed away over time, but I still kept them and wore them because I liked them so much.
I just discovered this new pair in store, and I am seriously considering getting both the black and the burgundy (more like eggplant in real life). If Mango is doing them again this year, my fashion sense tells me that they must be in.

Bella - so glad you enjoyed your last pair so well. Hopefully these will have the same favored fit for you. I really like the burgundy - I'm hoping it will be cool enough for me to wear my Dre's in that same color. Good to know the coated jeans are out there in different stores.
