Super easy to take inventory, now that I have my new closet setup! Last time the count was 52. Let's see what it is now:

2 gym shoes
6 non-gym casual sneakers
1 snow boots
2 Frye Rory boots (red and black)
1 vintage cowboy boots
1 tall suede boots
3 ankle booties
11 patent pumps in various colors
3 non-patent leather pumps
2 patterned pumps (one snake, one leopard)
2 miscellaneous red heels (1 peep-toe patent, one ankle-strap rounded toe)
4 slingback heels
1 high heeled Mary Janes
1 peeptoe ankle strap in brown tweed fabric
3 flat oxfords
2 Bass Weejun loafers
1 flat black driving loafers with silver buckles
3 strappy evening shoes
1 black patent ballet flats
3 YLF-approved thong sandals
2 pair non-YLF approved rubber-soled flip-flops
4 other flat sandals
5 heeled sandals
2 tap shoes
1 ballroom dancing shoes

New total: 67. I think there are still a couple that need to be donated, but for the most part I wear all of them. My rule these days is "one in, one out," so I will hang on to the "probably donate" ones until I want to replace them with something new! LOL

I just did my winter to spring shoe accessibility swap and decided to take a full accounting of what I had, since everything was out:

Boots:
- 5 high heeled winter boots
- 1 flat winter boots
- 6 high heeled all season boots
- 3 all season motorcycle boots
- 4 all season booties
- 2 spring/summer booties

Pumps:
- 15 all weather heels
- 24 spring/summer heels

Flats:
- 7 girly flats (ballet flats etc)
- 4 walking shoes
- 1 running shoes

Total: 72

This is just after donating a dozen pairs (heels and flats) that either didn't fit well on my foot or in my wardrobe. I can stand in all of my shoes for at least 3 hours, dance in them for at least 2, and walk in them for at least 30min at a stretch.

17 pairs total:

6 normal pairs:

3 pairs tall boots - black, cognac, brown
1 pair ankle boots - lilac
1 pair mary janes - red
1 pair sandals - black

The other 11 are special purpose and not worn everyday:

5 pairs strappy formal shoes - black, gold, purple, silver (need to replace some of them)
1 pair chunky heeled "loafers" - black and only worn for interviews
1 pair flat dance shoes
1 pair sneakers
1 pair hiking boots
1 pair athletic sandals (tevas)

Definitely have a few holes to fill - at a minimum:

Black strappy formal shoes (replacement pair)
Black pumps
Flat 8 hour sandals
Flat 8 hour winter shoes

Trying this from memory, so may be forgetting some. When we lived in downtown Vancouver I had zero closet space, which meant I had to keep my shoe collection purposeful and lean. That's stuck with me.

red flats
black ballet flats
white strappy stilletos (wedding shoes)
black pointy-toed stilleto pumps
black stack-heeled Clarks sandals
black Clarks wedge sandals
black high-heeled mules/clogs
tan Franco Sarto platform wedges
brown flat strappy sandals
white Toms
short black Converse sneakers
flat black riding boots
blue/grey knee-high boots with stacked heel
brown suede winter boots (for one snowfall we get a year)
blue rain boots
waterproof hiking boots
runners (for running)
crocs (for gardening)

I'd really like to narrow these down a little bit, as I really prefer to have fewer shoes kicking around.

@ Girl X-Impressive collection!

Oh, now I feel so much better I don't think I own so many pairs, and people around me say I own a lot of pairs! So now I can say there's a woman in the world that is not Paris Hilton or Carrie Bradshaw (however that's spelled) that owns 72 pairs of shoes

Let's count my pairs... 28! :S

1 pair of knee-high boots (black & flat)
2 pairs of trainers (white Nike ones and funky Nike ones -guess I have something for Nike?)
2 pairs of converses (black and purple)
2 pairs of espadrilles (black and red)
2 pairs of wedge sandals (brown & black)
5 pairs of flat sandals (brown, black, red, gold and purple (last ones are VERY bad quality, from Primark)
1 pair of combat boots (black patent)
1 pair of Oxford booties, mid-heeled (brown)
1 pair of wedged booties (grey-brownish)
1 pair of kitten-heel pumps (don't wear them though :S, they are brown)
3 pairs of black pumps (two black mary janes and last one is regular)
3 pairs of Victoria's (I'll ask on the forum how are these called in the rest of the world lol)
1 pair of Flip-Flops
4 pairs of ballet flats (three black, one white)
1 pair of flat Mary Janes

B/c I was curious (and bored), I decided to do some unscientific YLF stats:

leanest shoe wardrobe = 15 (Louise)
greatest shoe wardrobe = 72 (GirlX) and 67 (MaryK)
average shoes per woman acc. to Debora's info = 17
average shoes per YLF member = 29.08333*
* 24 members reporting, 4 members undisclosed
shoes mentioned on wish lists = at least 3 members

...hee hee heeee...

If anybody adds to this thread, I will try to update the stats (have them saved).

...shoes still on the brain. anybody want to mess up the above stats?

I'll bump those stats up a bit Will count and list my shoes when I get home later this evening, I have 40ish pairs.

I missed a box in the basement, so ... I have to update: 76

Girl X takes the lead by a nose. . .

I have yet to count . . . I feel such guilt when I do . . . but I need to . . .then maybe I'll stop (or even slow down) acquiring new pairs . . . ?

Hey all! Just got back from vacation in New Orleans - bought 2 pairs of shoes while I was there - bringing my total pairs up to 111 - including:
5 pair of sneakers
11 pair of boots
1 pair snowboots
1 pair flipflops
20 pair of flat/low heeled sandals
24 pair higher heeled sandals
10 pair casual shoes for fall and winter
15 pair evening shoes
24 pair businessy type heels
It pains me to think of all the money I've spent on shoes - although I think that the most I've ever spent on one pair is $90.00 and the majority were under $30 (I only buy on sale or clearance) - If I could get all that money back, I could go on a nice vacation!

UPDATED STATS: (see 6 comments above, I was going to edit but much has changed)

leanest shoe wardrobe = 15 (Louise) and 16 (Sammi)
greatest shoe wardrobe = 111 (Travelling Tam)
average shoes per woman acc. to Debora's info = 17
average shoes per YLF member = 32.14286*
(v.29.08333 previously)
* 28 members reporting, 6 members undisclosed
shoes mentioned on wish lists = at least 4 members

What Cileena said:

"Not nearly enough. I joined YLF during the winter months and expanded my boots wardrobe. Now, I am working on my flats and sandals....of which I really only have 2 pairs that aren't clunky, frumpy feeling. But, I have fussy feet and it's not easy to find cute and comfy shoes.

Ideally, I'd like to own about 6 pairs from each major shoe category...for me that's boots, fashion sneakers/flats, sandals and the miscellaneous shoes category. So, 25-30 pairs."

Exactly that.

Total of 31 pairs. Smack in the middle of the new average!
Breakdown:

6 pairs of boots (including uggs and snowboots). 5 out of 6 are flat.
6 pairs of shoes mostly worn to work but some have potential to double for other occasions. 2/6 are flats. 5 out of 6 are black
7 pairs of miscellaneous "regular" shoes (born heeled clogs, dansko stacked mj's, steve madden flats, black patent going out pumps, sparkly sandals for special occasions, navy suede peep-toe booties, and really beat-up canvas booties) 2/7 are flats.
8 pairs of sandals. 1/8 are flat (major hole - flat sandals!!! and flat non-sandals!!!!)
4 gear shoes (including flip-flops).

Great exercise, rosee! Heels and black shoes are now officially banned from the shopping cart. I'd like to add at least 4 new pairs into the collection, but perhaps to also get rid of several that are causing pains or have seen better days.

I felt entertained taking a peek at everyone else's lists, in lines of "things you always wondered but were afraid to ask"
Great (yet dangerous) inspiration!

...everybody up to and including Aida in the stats (3 comments above).

@qfbrenda: Isis posted this link on another thread, worth repeating here:

http://barkingdogshoes.com/

I have 12 pairs and that includes some handmedown flat bootie things from my sister that I haven't decided whether I'll keep.

Of course we have pretty mild winters here, which helps keep the total down.

I just did a quickie scout of my condo, all I have to say is ugh.

Darn it Anne's pinched my crown x
