sofft brown suede
madden black flat heel rider
sudini black 2 1/2 heel knee high streamlined (for work)
merrell grey/taupe suede short slouch
black uggs - for cold short stints; were great to have when I got stuck in a snow storm
I stopped wearing the brown suede as the color is hard to coordinate and they are very casual with back ties up the back.
flat heel rider boots needs to be replaced as I wore them out - wore these mainly to work and love the flat heel for doing alot of walking.
wear the 2 1/2 heel often to work in cold weather
grey/taupe suede short slouch - wear often on weekends, very comfortable - skinnies tucked but usually under boot cut jeans.

I store my booties in an over-the-door shoe hanger with all my other shoes (I think it holds 36 pairs). My tall boots stay on the floor of my closet. Some of them don't stand on their own so I just lie them on the side.

For storage, I keep my tall boots on a shelf in my closet with boot shapers inside so they will stand up straight. Shoes and booties are stacked on lower shelves in their original boxes.

For storage all my boots have boot shapers in and stand on the floor of my wardrobe. I'm hoping this will help with a one in one out policy as I can store 6 pairs in the single wardrobe and 4ish pairs in front of my shoe boxes in the double x

all my boots and shoes stay in their original boxes with the original packaging / inserts. I even keep the tissue paper LOL

I store my tall boots with rolled up magazines in the shafts, and the lower ones just standing up. They're either on a wire shoe rack by the entrance to my living room or standing on the floor of my long entrance hallway near the door (they go in the hallway if they have been recently worn and have yucky things like snow and salt the soles). It doesn't work for me to have them (or any shoes) in my closet or in boxes because I won't wear them if I don't see them, plus I don't wear shoes inside the house, so my shoes are all kept near the door/entrance hallway so I can put them on and take them off when I leave and enter the apartment. The exception is things like formal shoes that only come out for special occasions - those are stored in boxes in the closet.

EDIT: Sorry for the epic post! The results scared even me :-\

This is a good exercise, even if it gives me guity feelings!
Most used last year were:
INC black moto-ish boots - 2" heels and not quite knee-high (their comfort surprised me)
Dr. Martens Alexia - moto-ish boot that are my winter snow boots
Frye Melissa button in dark brown

I need to wear these more:
Frye Maxine Loop pull-on in Brick

Least used:
Paul Green black booties (3-inch heels hurt feet)
Paul Green black suede bootes (2.5-inch heels still hurt feet)
Hayden Harnett Madeline flat riding boots in cognac (too wide in calves)

Unique color so I hope they get more use in Spring:
Frye Jane OTK in taupe (but when I do wear them, they get compliments)

Frye Carson Pull-on in Buttermilk (a light natural)

Frye Jane 14 Stitch in Redwood

(It seems like too much overlap there - may need to exchange/return/?)

For storage: I have about 6 pair on the floor on my closet under hanging dresses -- with rolled magazines to keep them straight. The other pairs are going into my daughter's room as she just left for the semester

(and a couple more that are in my 'Clothes Exchange' stash!)

What fantastic footware !! (read as jealious ;+) )
I returned two pair I bought Friday--so much for retail therapy.
I do have one winter hiking boot--don't know where the other one is LOL--gone hiking no doubt.

Ladies, my jaw is dropping looking at these lists! Holy cow. My boot "collection" is paltry: Frye Veronica Slouch in gray; Steve Madden slouch boots in Cognac, Frye Cindy Slouch in Red (just bought) and a pair of cognac Steve Madden booties I've never worn. I consider them a mistake. Flat boots are more my style.

My boot list is short too --
Frye Veronica Slouch
Born knee-high with 1-1/2 inch heel
Ariat cowboy boots in distressed tan
(plus winter boots and several types of workboots for outdoor chores)

4 pairs of boots.
1 pair of suede ankle boots (black)
1 pair of brown ankle boots (slouchy cowboy style)
1 brown pair of knee length -these are flat and very comfortable...were very expensive 2 years ago but have worn them so much their cost per wear must be very minimal
1 black pair of knee length - not totally happy with these. they are a good brand but I got them for a steal in a second hand shop and they are slightly too big for me. am going to buy another pair this coming southern hemisphere winter.

I feel slightly guilty when I hear how carefully other people store their shoes

All my "flat" boots have a 1-1.5" riding/engineer style stacked heel. I wear these with nearly all of my bottoms (bootcuts, skinnies, dresses/skirts), but find that I reach for my slouchier pairs the most; I like their look the best, and they offer me the most versatility to wear over/under pants.

Booties:
- cognac synthetic, laceup oxford style, stiletto heeled (4")
- charcoal synthetic, laceup, stiletto heeled (4")
- bone leather, ruched top, stiletto heeled (3")

Ankle boots:
- gray leather, peep-toe, heeled (3.5")
- black suede, moto-laceup style with tread, stiletto heeled (4")
- brown leather, engineer style, flat

Mid-calf:
- black synthetic, slouchy engineer style, flat
- gray synthetic, semi-slouchy, heeled (2.75")

Below-the-knee:
- tan leather, riding style, flat
- brown synthetic, ruched and slouchy with buckles, wedge heel (2")
- black suede, ruched and semi-slouchy, heeled (3")

Gear:
- snow boots
- black motorcycle boots

I don't have the courage to count at the moment. I'm going to say 20 pairs, including gear-related boots (snow, rain, ice)... Weeding out is on my list!

I have 7 including gear, 5 without gear.

Three tall pairs
-One flat black riding
-One 2" heeled black dress
-One dark brown suede slouch

Two short pairs
-One tan flat bootie
-One reddish 2" heeled bootie

Gear
-One beat up black pair for muddy dog walks or motorcycle riding
-One pair of gear snow boots

I'm on the hunt for a new pair of flat ankle boots.

Ha, cool, a thread that makes me feel less embarrassed! I'm glad to see I'm in good company with boot-lovers. Here's my list:

Black knee-high with 3" chunky-heel
Brown flats with buckle ("riding" boots)
Red flats just above ankle height
Camel flat ankle boots with buckle
Gray suede booties with 3" stiletto heel

Plus a small assortment of utility boots for winter, snow, and snow sports, but I'm not counting those.

And my latest, prized addition...
Perfect-fit, camel-colored Costume National boots with 3" stacked heel that I scored last month at a secondhand shop for less than $200 in pristine condition. Photo coming soon!

Okay, I organized and counted 20 pairs, two of which are departing the house soon due to wear or lack of use. Yipes! In my defense, where I live boots are appropriate year-round!

I LOVE this post - self-reckoning !!!

Here's mine :

2 knee suede boots ( for nicer occasions ) black and chocolate
1 knee high pebbled leather, black high heel
1 "moto" style, low heel , rugged sole , tall, black
2 ankle, leather, mid heel , waterproof, black and deep brown
1 taupe, high heel, ankle
1 flat, waterproof, leather, rugged sole boot, black and tall
1 taupy gold, faux shearling lined winter boot, tall
1 tall, slouch, sand, flat
1 brown/tan, 2 inch, calf
1 rugged sole, wedge, brown, calf
1 tall, black, wedge
Finally, I just ordered the following, in olive :

http://www.amazon.com/Lucky-Wo.....38;sr=8-25

I would still like a calf, "cowboyish" black book and a bootie of some sort.

I store them on the iside recessed corner of a walk in closet. I JUST learned to stuff magazines in them and I also have boot inserts to keep their shapes.

Ironically, except for the suede boots, I wear every pair regularly. Beginning in October, I only wear a pair of shoes ( maybe ) during the holidays or if I need a sneaker. It is as if I have either boots or sandals. I have also been building "the collection", since 1988. Yup, I have leather boots that have spent almost my entire adult life with me.

Oh, we are including "gear" : then I will add my Gore-tex hiking boots, my tall Wellies, and a pair of "hardcore" insulated snow boots.

And I thought I had a "small " wardrobe......oh my.

Wow -- I can't even imagine trying to store 20 pairs of boots! And it is so hard to find boots that fit correctly in the calf that I think my collection will always be modest.

Knee-high:
Ariat flat black riding (calf taken in by cobbler)
Frye flat brown Melissa lace-ups
Natural Comfort black chunky-heeled lace ups (calf taken in by cobbler)
Scrunched black suede chunky-heeled

Short booties:
Miz Mooz flat taupe suede with studded straps
Miz Mooz Bardot flat black booties

And then gear, which I'm not counting because I don't like any of them except my glossy black wellies.

April, don't know if you meant me, but my boots are all on a counter in our laundry room, which is really large. I have bottles or hangers in them to keep them upright, so I can see them - that way I don't neglect any of them.

I've got to add one more to my list since my original response on this thread. I scored a gorgeous pair of light cognac(kind of peachy?) flat-heeled knee-high Seychelles boots at the swap party last Saturday. I know that I will get a LOT of use out of them come spring and early summer! LOVE them! I'll post a pic soon!
