So this is the place for musing about putting together an outfit? I have a bunch of pieces, but no mic drop perfect outfits.
I have a brocade top that you’d probably recognize from your faire days that I’d love to dress up. I have a suede midi it could go with, and tall brown boots. Not sure that counts as formal though.
Then there’s my floral dress with the black background. It’s great with floral tights/bodysuit and my tall lace-up black lug sole boots. I’d wear my leather moto jacket, long blue suede gloves, and a silver necklace. To be really maximal I’d add either a blue scarf with silver threads that would pick up the flowers in the dress or a silver chain belt with turquoise conchos and some turquoise jewelry. This is an outfit I hope to wear irl, probably to a concert at the House of World Cultures, but even though the boots are very fitted, they still aren’t formal—but if Sal’s having a cocktail party it might fly. I don’t have the conchos belt, am really tempted to get one—if I can think of at least one other outfit for it.
Next up is an outfit I’ve worn irl. It’s a great dress with a fitted taffeta bodice and black & white full skirt that comes to my knees. My black & white tweed pumps go with it, and black stockings. It hits all the notes for a dressy bash, and I might wear it to a concert in the Pierre Boulez auditorium, but I’m trying to figure out more imaginative ways to move it up a notch. It’s sleeveless, so needs some kind of wrap. The obvious answer is a short-waisted topper or a bolo jacket. I can see doing that in a fancy fabric, maybe brocade, but it might be fun to do something more daring instead, like a long topper that comes down past the dress, has lots of red in with the black, and is full enough to swirl when I twirl. I was drooling over red & black brocade pumps to go with it, but that’s too decadent when I already have the tweed ones. Still, this outfit needs a boost.
Then there’s this dress which fits me better now, but for which I don’t have any good ideas.
Still musing, musing….
