Help!!! Need advice on what to wear to a posh restaraunt.

Hello all

I am going to a posh restaurant in a couple of weeks for a friends birthday but no idea what to wear. Ideally I would like to wear a skirt and top but not ruling a dress out. Any suggestions?

Want to look elegant if not a bit sexy.

Food determines the outfit in my book, lol How about pencil skirt, coloured silk blouse, boots, hair half up, earrings and necklace? Italian food calls for luxurious textures and deep but earthy colours I feel...

Katie, I was going to suggest black - I know it's not very original of a suggestion, but it's a virtual fail-safe in terms of appropriateness, not to mention forgiving of splashed red wine or marinara! I love the outfit you've posted above - why not copy it exactly? It's classy and dressy and the sequins give it a bit of glamour. Plus the pieces are versatile enough that you are sure to use them on other occasions.

A black outfit like the one you show with the sequin skirt seems great. Classy and sexy if this is your aim. Maybe with a bold lipstick for an even more Dolce & Gabbana feel?

Your sequin skirt outfit is kind of my uniform for birthday dinners or going to shows. You could amp up the sexy-elegant factor with some sheer black Wolford hosiery, if your budget allows. If not, Hanes Silk Reflections makes some pretty nice sheer hosiery, and you can usually find it at Target or Macy's.

Ooh, I love the sequined skirt idea.
Here's a pic of a black wrap blouse (so versatile and looks good in everyone, IMO) and a gold sequin skirt - if you're brave enough. I'd probably go with a black one and do a monochromatic look.

I think the suggestions for a wrap blouse and sequin skirt are great! Add a nice pump, a bold lip and a little jewelry and I think you are good to go!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I love all the ideas. Definitely like the sequin skirt idea though would prefer longer then the gold skirt (for obvious reasons).

Love those sequin skirts! But I am inclined to put the outfit emphasis above the waist for a restaurant. Your bottom half will be under the table most of the time.

I love the example picture. Nice use of blue and black in the skirt. It adds some inviting color to the outfit but keeps everything elegant. Too much black can make you sink into the background.

Based on past outfit posts, I'm thinking the black sequinned skirt with a black wrap blouse would be very flattering on you. Do a high quality stocking like LBD suggests (I vote nude) and a gorgeous black shoe.

Oh I really don't know how to dress for it now I love all the outfits. Love the sequin skirts but love the full skirt too. Agree emphasis should be above waist but do want to wear nice skirt too.

Katie, the interest above the waist could also come from statement jewellery against the simple top - for example, if you did a simpler black top, you could go sparkly with earrings and a necklace, and of course a bold red lip!
